Thanks youTry this email address, he responded fast with me [email protected]
Wow. Sounds like there are some truly awful ortho programs out there. I heard similar things from that Georgia school. And now they doubled their class size. Ugh. Apparently people are graduating from there are closer to dentists than they are to orthodontists.Hey guys,
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, nova did have problems with the board and not sterilizing instruments they were using on patients. They recently changed from a 2 year to 3 year program because patient cases were very low- my friend graduated the program with only finishing 7 cases. They charge patients pretty much the same amount as an orthodontist so many patients do not have incentive to come here when the orthodontist down the street has relatively equal pricing. As a dental student, students are the least priority, money is number one. Our dean was asked to step down or get fired- this school seems good on the outside but beware.
*I also have a past student who wrote a 9 page letter on their experience if you'd like more details, but it was more pertained to dental than graduate programs
Probably any program with a class size of 7+ or one that costs more than $50,000 per year in tuitionAre there any other programs we should be careful of? Thanks in advance!
Do you know anything about Jacksonville program? Is it good?Probably any program with a class size of 7+ or one that costs more than $50,000 per year in tuition
No, I don't think it's good. There are 15 residents per year, cost is $95,000 per year. Their website lists 6 full time faculty and 1 part time faculty. The website says that students will start around 50 cases in the program.Do you know anything about Jacksonville program? Is it good?
Thank you, appreciate your response 🙂No, I don't think it's good. There are 15 residents per year, cost is $95,000 per year. Their website lists 6 full time faculty and 1 part time faculty. The website says that students will start around 50 cases in the program.
Let's contrast that program with something like Iowa. That program has 12 faculty members listed, with 7 adjunct professors listed. They have 5 residents per year and cost is listed as 32,000 per year with a 12,000 stipend. I'm not sure how many cases they get to do at Iowa, but I've heard from residents at other programs with smaller class size that they are over 150-200+. Much better student to faculty ratio. Much better odds of getting more patients with less residents like that.
The odds are really going to be against you financially (and clinically) if you go to a program like Jacksonville. Not trying to be doom and gloom, but you can see what recent graduates are saying about the field of orthodontics and the job outlook when starting out can be rather bleak right now.
I really wanna know this too!are interviews sent in waves, or sent in one go from schools?
the schools that are on the list #1-#28 , will they send out more interviews in the future?
If my options were to attend a $75-100k per year 10+ resident class size program or not attend Ortho that year, I would try agin the next year. Orthodontics is super tough to get into coming from someone with 3/13 interviews right now and waiting on 13 more programs. The debt you will get into is just not worth it. I’ve been a practicing dentist for 2 years and have been paying my student loans and have first hand experience what living with $300k in debt is like. If your passion is Ortho you can find a way but my opinion is to not ruin your next 20-30 years by attending a program you will graduate with $300k+ more debt. No, I don't think it's good. The PASS application has officially opened for the 2021 cycle. Let's use this thread to relay any information that we receive from ortho programs and ask questions.

No, I have not ☹️Have you all been getting replies after confirming your attendance for interviews?
Wow! maybe there are still conflicts with virtual interviews (some are sending in person interviews as well) or they are sending it in waves! Either way, it makes me hopeful 🙂Just got an invitation from Roseman today. Didn’t think they were still handing them out.
