Anyone have an general tips in regards to things that should be done after getting accepted (i.e. vaccinations, planning on housing, finances)? Anything is helpful!

  • Vaccinations - do them
  • Housing - talk to current med students in a similar situation to you (married people if you are married, single people if you are single, people with kids if you have kids).
  • Finances - save as much as you can, then cry at how quickly your money will be obliterated

Figure our your health/dental stuff. If you have any issues with either then now is the time to take care of them.

Make sure your bills are set to be reliably paid, preferably automatically so you don’t have to worry about them.

My med school drew titers and then gave people what they needed. Yours might do the same. I wouldn’t worry too much about vaccinations right now. Your school will let you know what needs to be done. You presumably went to a US school which means you should be pretty set there.

Read some books that have nothing to do with medicine. Seriously. I am looking forward to Christmas break so that I can read some fiction and not feel guilty about it.

Get an exercise and meal prep routine. Med school takes so much of your time that having that down pat before you start will make it easier to keep it up.

Celebrate! You did it. You are going to be a doctor!

Change status to medical student? We don't start until July/August of next year though...

If you really want to get that med student status, there is a medical student (accepted) option. For those go getters who just can’t wait to start.

I thought upgrading from pre-health to pre-med was a start but I better go get that MS-0 status.

I appreciate the fact that the whole "Medical Student (Accepted)" doesn't fit and so all we see is "Medical Stu..." making me seem more seasoned and knowledgable than I actually am.

Or maybe that's just how it looks with the formatting on my computer, who knows
