Well the way the website puts it, "inaccurate" is not very encouraging.

•So if we got the accpetance message last night and do not have it anymore does it mean it was a mistake and is completely the opposite (Reject) or does this mean that it was just posted too early. HELP!!!•••••It sounds to me like it doesn't mean anything either way, because it seems like mostly people who interviewed relatively late had the acceptance displayed. I figure it's a function of when you interviewed rather than what your actual decision will be. I doubt it means that the opposite of what it said is true; that you've already been rejected. But I'm not convinced it means you definitely got in either. It'll be interesting to find out when the letters actually arrive. We'll all have to post and see if anyone's final letter says something different than what they saw on the status page. Anyway, good luck!•••••

I guess I've just decided to be optimistic, because all this worrying can't change anything. Just hope for the best!

Man, this has been a pretty terrible week. Thank goodness it's almost over. Then an entirely new terrible week can start, yay! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

Hmm. Well, I hate to be rude, but there are a number of us who are very excited and pleased by this recent turn of events... :)

Sorry!

Back to the waiting, I suppose... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Well, a couple more thoughts...

First off, I don't get that error message when I log on to my status check web page. How about the rest of us former-rejectees? Does the error message only pop up for those people who got the 'acceptance' notice last night??

Secondly, based on the error message and the retraction... At least in my opinion, that means everything that came out last night was garbage. If it was the actual acceptance posted, just a bit early, would they go to so much trouble as to print a retraction? I think we're all in for a bit of waiting. Save those who have the acceptance in paper.

Good luck, everybody!

This is unfair of Duke to do this to both the people who got the message and those who didn't. When you don't get the message, you give up and I tell ya a lot of stress is released. Now, it's like there's still a chance. Why can't they just release the results online now. I'm sure they are fully aware of who is and is not accepted by now. I hope that they did not take those messages back just because it was premature (no offense to those who were robbed of an acceptance). It just doesn't seem fair to keep teasing the rest of us about our chances. I'm tired of riding this emotional roller coaster. These admissions offices need to communicate clearly with us about their deadlines and meet them. Total BS keeping us in suspense.

I get the "attention applicants" pop up window and I'm a proud "former rejectee"

Good luck, everybody!•••••I'm thinking you probably just don't get the pop-up window message about the error because of your browser settings or something. My status actually hasn't changed at all, even when they made the mistake, but I still get the pop-up message. On my computer it takes quite a few seconds before the window pops up. Is anyone else NOT getting this pop-up window?

I'm just happy to be back from the dead. :) And, I hadn't told anyone I was rejected, because it didn't seem very certain...

Anyway, I get the message now. It doesn't look like you get the message if you just visit the site directly - I have it bookmarked. You have to click on the "Account Login" link on the main page.

Sorry for all the repeated posts... :(

Anyway, does anybody know if they are planning to make another round of calls tomorrow? Or have they basically stopped calling??

Mail takes forever to get up here, so if they've stopped calling, I'll probably have to wait until March 22nd for it to show up on the website... And I don't want to be waiting all day tomorrow for a call that never comes...

Did anybody that talked to them today get that kind of info??

Duke is a big tease...I wouldn't expect too much from them tomorrow.

If you really really want to know, I bet if you called tomorrow you could get the secretary to tell you if you get in (or infer otherwise if she won't tell you anything) They were telling when people called last week!

Hmm. OK, well, if I don't hear anything tomorrow, I'll call on Monday. I don't want to have another false rejection! I can only take so much... :(

Anyway, if I call on Friday, it might be possible that they actually haven't decided yet. By Monday, things might be more certain.

But I would agree that they probably won't be calling tomorrow. :( But if anybody hears anything otherwise... :)

Last time I talked to them (a few days ago) someone in admissions told me that they won't resume calling until the decisions have been mailed out. She said that the earliest they would start calling again is MONDAY, but that they might not even be calling at all.

The least that Duke could have done was post an apology somewhere in that stupid popup message. Seriously, that's the cruelest joke imaginable and they can't even issue an apology.

What an unbelievable year--someday we'll be laughing about it--just now now. :)

Yeah, I bitched about that a few pages back. I thought the notification was rather antiseptic. They could have at least apologized for accidentally leading us on.

Maybe it wasn't an accident...hmmm...makes you wonder...Israeli Mossad plot...?

j/k :D

Yaaay, today's the day they send out the mailings! Good luck everyone! And I hope the USPS isn't TOO slow about it!

Has anyone tried to call Duke to see if they will tell you or hint at what decisions have been made? All decisions have been made and sent out by now, right?

I called. The lady paused and seemed to be looking over a list, and then told me that a decision would be sent out this evening. Not a good sign for me, I don't think. Anyhow, best of luck to the rest of you.

Oops. You posted just ahead of me there...

OK, maybe I'll try and find a phone somewhere to call them... But that would just be an added piece of stress that I don't really need today. :)

So they're basically just telling people they have to wait for the mailing?

This is extraordinarily maddening.....

Well, hold on, I am no sure of that either.

They DID look up my status, then told me they couldn't tell me.
I have a funny feeling that they did tell me indirectly in this way. I am interested in what response one of the people who got the "accepted" message online wednsday get. I am honestly under the impression that they just told them too early online, and they weren't mistaken, because whats the point of pulling up my file if they are gonna tell me to wait for mail anyways?

(Anybody who got shafted the other day wanna take a step forward and make a call to either deny/confirm this?)

Okay so i just called. The lady I spoke with wouldn't even take my name. She just said "we're mailing stuff this afternoon," and "we can't tell you over the phone." Except, she didn't say "stuff." So, I wouldn't bother calling. Looks like we have to wait a few more days.

Gainer,

I did get the message online on Wednesday, and, as I said above, she did seem to wait to look it up before telling me that it would be sent out. I mean, she could have been acting, but it sure as hell was an honest pause. Anyhow.

That seems werid to me. I called early (9am) cause I am fairly sure I am not in after only hearing negatively throughout the whole fiasco. She definitely paused and seemed to look at my file. If they aren't giving status either way (maybe they aren't anymore), why even look?

Oh well, my heart goes out to those who were told they were in if ya find out you aren't.

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

a) anyone who got the acceptance message have the secretary tell them that they DID get in? I am thinking because of the HUGE F-up that the Dean has instructed them not to SAY anything over the phone either way but they look you up just because they are curious.

b) Anyone actually print the message they got on Wednesday night? I think if you did you are in a great position for a law suit, and even if you didnt, they cant play with people's emotions like that. That is F-ed up.

Did anyone who called find out if they've already mailed the letters, or if they're going out this afternoon or at the end of the day or something?

heheh I guess Duke made me a Senior member on SDN, and thats kinda cool. :p
Now what am I gonna have to do for excitement next year, once the rollercoaster of admissions is over?

how did you guys find out that 138 acceptances were sent out last week? I called, and they wouldn't even tell me how many total acceptances are being sent out. They only said that around 700 people were interviewed.

thanks and good luck to everyone!

According to last year's USNews stats on Duke, if I remember correctly they interviewed around 1,100 people, and accepted around 250. This year I heard that they interviewed much fewer students, perhaps because of the AMCAS problems. Supposedly they'll be accepting fewer than usual as well...I heard about 200 students. The problem is that too many are deciding to matriculate, and they don't want to risk being too full. Unfortunately, accepting so many more students than they need basically means that if you're on the waitlist there probably isn't much of a shot of getting in. So let's just hope we're accepted!

Do we know for sure that this batch of letters includes everybody that applied?
b/c I interviewed on the last day and there were some posts previously that implied that for late interviewees the decisions may be made even after March 15.

Exactly.
Thats why I am a little upset they will not tell us. If we knew whether we were accepted or not, we'd have a pretty fair estimate whether we were going to be going there or not, and could have a better idea of what we'd be doing next year...

It will be interesting to see whether those who were told on the internet that they were accepted in reality are. I think that Duke wouldn't have taken those back if they weren't wrong, because who cares if those who are accepted see it a little bit early. And they wouldn't be so defensive on the phone in not telling people that they didn't get in. Who knows, but just my two cents

OH MY GOSH YOU GUYS I WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE THAT ACCEPTANCE MESSAGE THAT I GOT ON THE INTERNET ON WED NIGHT BY LOOKING THROUGH MY COMPUTER'S HISTORY. PM ME IF YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW. I THINK IT'S GOOD TO HAVE, ESPECIALLY IF ANY OF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN "PURSUING" THE MATTER FURTHER

Good for you! Print that out and hold on tight!!

I'm still wondering what happened to all those letters (acceptance/waitlist/reject) that supposedly got sent last Friday. Most of didn't hear anything out of that, including many people like me who interviewed relatively early. Was it a false alarm ?

So, I guess it's snail mail for next week. Damn. Oh well, I never got screwed over by AMCAS like so many others, maybe my time had come!

They never offered you a place in their class. You never signed anything accepting a place in their class. The only thing you can "pursue" is a large legal bill that will get you nowhere.

It's like if the Publisher's Clearinghouse people knocked on your door instead of your neighbor's. It ain't your name on the check! So just chill out and wait for the real stuff to come in the mail. You might get in anyway; and if you don't, act like an adult.

I think it is good to have either way. I am sure no one wants to force themselves into a class but I am sure there are people that have faced a lot of headache because of this... Whatever they may want to do with it, that is their call.

Certainly, I think mistakes like this are unfair and cruel and putting people through an emotional rollercoaster is really unfair. What the Duke admissions office is doing right now is not acting like an adult. They have already put people through enough SHI*, they should just tell people their status over the phone.

Anyway, you can do with it what you like, look at it and savor the few hours when you were admitted to Duke, or use it for whatever purpose.
Just wanted to let you all know that there is a way to retrieve the message since it was not on a secure website and should be in your computer's history.

well, they DID say that decisions would NOT be available online until the 22nd. They also said that nothing is official until you receive it in writing. I don't think having a printout of the online accepted message will get you anywhere. But like someone else said, just hope that you get in and don't have to worry about it!

I've always heard that there would be two decision days, the 8th and the 15th. I think our waiting is nearing an end...
