Well, think of things like this:
According to interviewfeedback, ppl who interviewed before February 25th (ie - all but the last week, and regionals) were reviewed the first week. That must be well over 90% of total interviewees.
Now, according to omores, a bit less than 70% of total acceptances were sent out the first week.
So, there's a big gap there. My guess is (and it's only a guess):
They went over all the files the first week, and accepted outstanding candidates.
Second week, they went over those us of us who intervieweed late, accepted outstanding candidates, and then went back and covered all applicants until they had issued 200 acceptances.
As to the question of why more ppl didn't hear in the first week, well, I think that's just a case of simple odds. They interviewed between 700 (low estimate) and 1000 (high estimate). That means that if they issued 138 acceptances, then between one in seven or one in five interviewers would have gotten an acceptance. I think about four or five people had gotten the good news - that means that there should be about 30 people still waiting!
Now, as to the fake acceptances the other night... I believe that those were completely false. Nothing should be read into those. An outrageous number of people got the good news. Not that there's anything the matter with that, but SDN'ers aren't that exceptional! I think "acceptees" outnumbered 'rejectees' by about four or five to one! As nice as that would be, things (unfortunately!) don't work that way. Add to that the fact that they seem to be strongly stating that there was a mistake, and I think that those 'acceptances' don't mean anything. I mean, if you just released the results prematurely, what reason would you have to tell people such bad news, giving them a horrible impression of your school?
I think we're all in for a bit more of a wait. Mail takes the better part of two weeks to get to Canada (despite the fact that I live about a half hour from the border), so I'm waiting for the 22nd to check the website... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />
