Ok, in honor of choker, I thought I might start this thread, since I am dying to find out about whether or not I get into this school. I just got of the phone with the admissions office. All interviews are done on March 1st, and there are TWO batches of acceptances sent out, YES TWO (2) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> , the first on March 1st and the second on March 15th. I still haven't heard from columbia, but I am going to bury the hatchet and go forward. Those with me say AyE!

I am definitely a member of this group. I can't wait to hear from Duke. Columbia waitlisted me, but I prefer Duke anyway.

BTW, GS: I am pretty sure we interviewed at Duke on the same day.

Oh yeah!! I interviewed there on Dec. 11th, was that when you interviewed abefroman? It was so hard to find the place, and I went there for 4 years as an undergrad. It's like a maze. Anyway, I started this thread because I thought choker's was a smashing success.

So there are two rounds of acceptances? For some reason, I thought ALL of the acceptances were sent out on March 1st and then the waitlists and rejections were sent out March 15th. Will the waitlists and rejections then be sent out with the second round of acceptances?

So, they're sending out the first round of acceptances on the day that I interview? Wow. Maybe I can get an on-the-spot acceptance...

At the very least, it's nice to know that I'll only have to wait two weeks to find out...

I interviewed on the same day as you - do you know if your interview date affects whether you are accepted on the first or second date- or if anyone can be accepted on the first? I REALLY hope that I get into Duke- and the sooner I find out the better, since my boyfriend needs to know whether I'll be living with him or not......

Well guys, I found out I got waitlisted at Columbia, and that's great because I can now concentrate on Duke. I didn't really want to end up wearing any silly Carolina blue anyway (to tell the truth). OKAY..
Hey Dr. G I remember you!! Oh the SDN love!! Yeah, it's the same thing for me and my girlfriend! I don't know about the date thingy, if the earlier you interviewed the earlier you hear from them. Oh whatever. It could be that they send all acceptances at one round and the waitlists the other round... or who knows? The person i talked to said that she could not disclose how many people were to be accepted either in these rounds of letters. OHHHH the agony!!

and regarding student hosts, they don't usually get back to your until closer to your visit. the guy who emailed me today told me that they're having an exam this coming monday, so i bet all the students are concentrating on that right. so don't worry, i'm sure they're get back to you as soon as the exam and the post exam parties are over. :wink:

So three of us here interviewed on the same day. Me, Dr.G and GS were all at Duke on 12/11. Pretty cool coincidence.

Hi. Did anybody hear when rejections will go out after we interviewed? I interviewed on Nov. 5, 2001. Anyone else on that day? So we will hear around March first if we are accepted?

Yes old boy, I did. He didn't respond yet either. It'll be funny if both get back to me with different hosts... then I'll divvy up my time or take 'em both out to dinner.. wine and dine 'em to see what I can get out of 'em

I interviewed at the beginning of this month...have we settled the 1st vs. 15th thing because if they're are two batches, i'd obviously be in the second. But man, the 1st is rapidly approaching...

Are there two rounds of acceptances or is the second date (e.g. the 15th of March) a waitlist/reject date???

OH...can we check acceptances Online ??
(has anyone's status changed from interview to the fourth box--your file is in review or some such??)

Yup -- my status is the 5th box -- the in review one. It says that they will let us know accept/reject/waitlist by the end of February via regular mail. Don't know if they are still using those dates though! Good luck!

I spoke with a very nice women in the admissions office this morning- here is the deal-
They want to send out almost all of the acceptances on March 1st.
The acceptances sent out on March 15th will probably just be from the last couple weeks of interviewing.
I did not ask her about the website- but on the site it says we will be notified by mail.

Hmm. I chose the March 1st date because I thought Duke was basically non-rolling, and I wanted to make travel arrangements easier. I could have interviewed as early as last week.

I wonder if that was a mistake... I would hope they wouldn't send out a pile of acceptances before I even interview... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

Don't worry; there should be plenty of places left for the March 15th batch. I'd wager that most of the February interviewees will be in the second set, as will most of the regionals (this is the way it worked last year -- I must have phoned and e-mailed them 20 times to figure it out.)

Do they pay for part of the way down for the second look? I know I shouldn't be getting ahold of myself, but I don't know if I can afford to go down there twice... Oh well.

Yes, it's for everybody, and no, they don't pay your way there, but they do feed you well once you arrive.

All one really needs is a nice warm blanket and a piece of card-board. But since you're from Manitoba, you might be able to get away with just the card-board . I hope you get some good airline deals; especially if you start looking early.
I'm buying a one-way ticket in August for my 2nd look weekend, since I'll be outside the country in the 1st week of April.

Instead of studying for Monday's microbiology exam, I decided to dredge up last year's versions of this thread, when several of us were desperately trying to figure out Duke's schedule. I remember being so freaked out by all the confusing and contradictory information that was coming in from all sides.

Original - I interviewed at the University of Manitoba today. It went fine. Pretty relaxing. I'm really not that worried about them. They have to take 70 residents of Manitoba, and they base 50% of your final mark on your MCAT. Lots of people with 24's get in, so I'm thinking I have a good chance... :wink: It makes a nice safe school.

I'll start looking into flights back after I interview. I'm an optimist, but I don't think I should be worrying too much about the 2nd look just yet. If it is April 4th, and I don't hear until March 15th, then that's somewhat short notice.

Omores - thank you. See, us Canadians are all very helpful people! I'm curious to see if they will notify us of admission via their website... Mail takes forever to get to Canada.

Well, there's a spot for it, and they have been pretty good about things so far. So, I'd guess that'd be a yes. Although, I don't think anybody'll know for sure until Friday... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Does anybody feel like calling them to find out if the decision will be posted on the webpage? I really want to know but I have called them so many times already....I don't want them to think that I am obsesive (which I obviously am) :wink:

I can ask them in person on Friday. I don't really feel like calling them, though - they might think I was ridiculous calling about acceptances when I haven't interviewed yet...

If nobody's sure by Friday, I'll ask them in person.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but when I was at Duke about a week ago, they seemed to indicate that we would be hearing the status of our application within a few weeks. It might not be that far fetched to assume that they are sticking to the March 1 initial mailing of acceptances. I know that I will be checking my mailbox like its my J-O-B.

Well, like I said, I'll talk to them on Friday. Unless somebody calls them before then.

It sounds like the first round of acceptances comes out on Friday, so you'll hear from me shortly after that about whether they'll go on the status check site.

according to the md/phd coordinator-person, the official med school letters will be mailed out this friday (i guess that's the 1st). she said nothing about the website. my guess is they're just doing letters.

I just interviewed at Duke the other day (not for MD/PhD), and they said all of the letters would be going out in one batch around the second week of March

oops! bummer. We thought they were going out this friday. Did they prostpone the 2nd look weekend as well? because having 2nd look 2 weeks after acceptances go out seems like rather short notice to me. In anycase I'll call them right away and post whatever I find out.

I just got off the phone with Wendy at the admissions office. Almost all the Letters will be mailed out PRECISELY on March 8. The very late interviewees will get their letters about a week after March 8. 2nd look weekend is still April 4-6--bummer for me. Oh well. *sigh*

I just checked the online status page and it says final decisions will be mailed via US mail at the end of February? I guess maybe the site is outdated.
