OFFICIAL DUKE COUNTDOWN THREAD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah, it's back up again. Just a few minutes ago it was displaying a message about being inaccessible for a short period of time. I guess they fixed the problem, whatever it was.

Hey, TommyGunn04, is your status the same as last night?

Does anyone who had an acceptance message know if it remained the same, or did they all switch back to "decisions will be mailed...."? OR--did anyone get a new acceptance message?

•Hey, TommyGunn04, is your status the same as last night?•••••Yup, I'm still getting that message about March 22nd.

So mine has gone from step 6 back to step 5 (saying the committee will review my application). But I already have the hard copy of the acceptance letter, so it seems that that's just a goof up with the status check. For everyone else that this happened to, I totally would not worry about it, even if you don't have the paper copy of your acceptance yet. It looks like Duke will have to reupdate your status, but just be glad you checked it out when it had your acceptance info posted 🙂

Just wanted to let you guys know- My status changed from accept to the March 22 message- but I have already gotten my acceptence in the mail- so I guess that are taking away the acceptance messages for everyone.

Whoah...mine went from 6-admit last night to 5 this morning... and I *don't* have an acceptance letter in hand (I am on spring break, and don't have access to my mail...but I did not get a phone call). Does anybody have any real word on what the heck is going on? I'm going to be pretty embarrased if I have to call back family and friends and tell them that I didn't get in...rrrr....

Mine went from accepted back to the #5 position as well. I would not want to be the person answering the phones at the Duke admissions office right about now.

My status changed from "6" to "5" and I already have the letter in the mail.

Did anyone who checked online status last night *not* have an "accepted" message?

I didn't have an accepted message.

So does anyone know what exactly is going on?

To all you people who were accepted on the website (first off congrats), you should call the admissions office. If you got in I am sure they would love to tell you! My status didn't change last night, so you guys must be getting good news!!!

Would someone like to call and confirm this for us? 😀

I just got into Penn, but based on all this Duke online status stuff and my not receiving a letter in the first batch, I'm worried that I'm not going to get into Duke, which is my clear first choice. I wish I could just trade with someone! Anyone here get into Duke but really want to go to Penn? Let's try to work out a trade!

I actually did call this morning, and the lady just said not to trust anything the status check said until I received something in the mail. She was very nice about it, and I didn't push too hard to find out if I got in for sure. I assumed, as well, that she would have offered the information if I had indeed been accepted, but who knows.

This is so frustrating...I think I'm going to go eat a carton of ice cream.

Darn it all...as a UNC grad, I should have expected as much from DOOK! Well, there is the outside chance that when I get back from spring break I'll have a letter waiting for me, but...I sure ain't holding my breath!

Next week can't come soon enough! I just hope that whatever news I receive isn't bad news!

Any new developments?

does anyone remember the class size at duke?

Just below 100.

Looks like they aim for 90-99

argh.
this is all just too stressful for me.

!!!!!
Waiting impatiently for the mail!!!!!!

Nothing but junk mail.
After my Penn disappointment and this Duke up-and-down BS, my day has been pretty sucky. Argh!

Son of a Left-Handed Austrian Goatherder!

I almost never uses the aminated graemlins, but I think this is an extreme case.... 😛

This message now pops up when you access the status page:

----------------------
A software malfunction inadvertently miscoded a number of applications in our data base from the evening of Wednesday March 13 through the morning of Thursday March 14 period resulting in decisions incorrectly posted to the interactive web site. If you accessed your account log in and your admission status changed to reflect admission to the School of Medicine, please be advised that these decisions were inaccurately posted to the web site.

As a reminder, that while all admission decisions will be posted to the interactive web site by March 22nd, no decision is official until you have received a letter of acceptance signed by the Dean of Admissions and the Dean of the Duke Medical School. Thank you for your cooperation.

I just checked the Duke Med website. I can't believe it! This is terrible! They have really screwed up this time. I don't know what to say... 😕

Biggest F*ups of the year:
1) AMCAS
2) Duke
3) UPENN (although this may really be JHU)
4) Cornell (for not leting choker in!!!)
let the list grow!!!!!

let the embarrassed retraction phone calls to my friends and family begin....

(and may Duke lose to the 16 seed in the tourney) 😡

Last night, I thought it was a bit strange. I know all of us SDNers are super high-caliber, cream of the crop, but it seemed like an awful lot of us were getting acceptances. Seemed too good to be true. Apparently, it was.

This has definitely got to be one of the biggest f-ups of the year (century, anyone?). I'm just honored to have been part of it.

god bless you trout! 🙂

Is anyone else annoyed that in that explanation of the error, there was no hint of an apology? Not even a "whoops, sorry we screwed up?" It seemed like they were blaming us for relying on the web page as an accurate source of information. Granted, it did clearly say that decisions would not be posted until March 22nd, but it's still a pretty enormous snafu on their part.

yeah, I noticed that too (no hint of a sorry). I thought southerners were supposed to be more polite than the rest of us. I'm so sad. I feel like, having gotten my hopes up, I'm now doomed.

Aww crap!!!!!!! Time to start dialing...

I can't believe Duke!! 😕 Don't they realize how painful this process already is without adding the hot spice of false acceptances?! Luckily I had class all this morning and hadn't checked my status page. May God grant you guys the will to recover

Sigh...I've been calling people to tell them the news. This is so disappointing. I called the Admissions Office and they said that a decision has not been made on my application and the message on the website was incorrect. (The website said I was accepted last night.)

Oh well.

Good luck, everyone.

EC

There's now a pop-up dialogue box when you go to the status page that tells you about the error they made. So I guess it's official now...we still have to wait for a darn mailing!

Aieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I'm really sorry this is happening, guys. What a mess.

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> 😕 😡 😕 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

At Penn, they give you food in the morning at the exams. At Penn, they have University City right at your doorstep and you can choose to live on-campus at Samson where many of your classmates will live at as well (not an option at Duke). At Penn, you are on-call fewer nights and have time to read while you are on clinical rotations while at Duke, well, they are a little more hardcore there.

Just some observations from friends... Ok, gotta go now and be on-call tonight.

What a mess...

And I was stressing because yesterday people were saying that if you didn't have a acceptance message you were rejected.... I'll probably get rejected anyway, but I sure don't need to get jerked around besides!

What a f'ing blunder! That's outrageous. I'm sorry about all this painfull anxiety. Hang in there people.

no but seriously does anybody else's status page say that they are still on step 4? It seems kind of odd to me.

4) Duke will confirm your interview date, time, and place.

So if we got the accpetance message last night and do not have it anymore does it mean it was a mistake and is completely the opposite (Reject) or does this mean that it was just posted too early. HELP!!!

It's just that I love the Duke curriculum and location just that little bit more, and I also have an important personal reason why I really REALLY want to be at Duke.

HELP!!! ••••So far as I can tell, we're right back where we were before we got the false teaser acceptances, i.e. we don't know one way or the other. However, I said in a previous post that I thought that the acceptances were valid, so I certainly could be wrong. 🙄

HELP!!!•••••It sounds to me like it doesn't mean anything either way, because it seems like mostly people who interviewed relatively late had the acceptance displayed. I figure it's a function of when you interviewed rather than what your actual decision will be. I doubt it means that the opposite of what it said is true; that you've already been rejected. But I'm not convinced it means you definitely got in either. It'll be interesting to find out when the letters actually arrive. We'll all have to post and see if anyone's final letter says something different than what they saw on the status page. Anyway, good luck!

My heart goes out to all of you who got that "acceptance message" -- I hope that you do end up getting in because that is just wrong.

However, I would not read too much into the message at this point. If it really is a software malfunction as they say, then we don't really know who should get the acceptances or not, with the exception of those who have the letters. I think that we can infer, however, that the mistake was probably made while updating those who were admitted, so those of us who did not get the acceptance I am worried that we will not be getting in. What do you guys think?
