~Official "It's Thursday, I Should Call for a Loyola Status Check" Thread~

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks Phoenix and LavenderDoll.

Phoenix--I too wish it would equal an automatic interview--at it possibly could. I still haven't explicitly told Loyola that they're the only school I'm applying too (though I know at least one Loyola student who was in my post-bac program told the admissions staff I was only applying there, but I don't know if that info got passed on to the admissions committee).

I tried to compromise a bit between what my advisors told me and what I kind of wanted to do--and sent an update letter with a paragraph or two restating my interest in Loyola more strongly than before--but not explicitly saying Loyola was my only choice. If February comes around and I still don't have an invite, I will certainly let Loyola know all my feelings, at the risk of sounding like I'm "begging." But from what I've heard, I don't think it would sound like that to the Loyola staff. And my advisors say they'll call Loyola for me too and advocate for me if February comes around without an interview. I guess that's what you pay $30,000 a year for at a private post-bac program...

I just hope I don't have to get into Loyola the way Rudy got into Notre Dame (for anyone who's seen the movie...) and take four years (or was it two?) to get into my dream school! Either way, I'm no good at football, but then I guess, neither was he.

you can do it brent!!!:luck:

honestly though if i were in your shoes i don't think i'd wait until february. you know this is where you want to go, you only applied to one school, and you've already waited 6+ months so why wait one more? i would just go for it. it's really too bad loyola doesn't have an edp program...

I agree. Brent, you should let Loyola know asap that they are the only school you've applied to because you feel so strongly that your mission and their mission are so similar, etc., etc. I KNOW they won't think it sounds like desperation, especially if you point out that you ONLY applied to their school! That actually puts you in a different category from someone who applied to 20-30 schools, and are just sending letters of interest to all the schools in the hope for an interview somewhere. You, on the other hand, ONLY want an interview at Loyola. And the fact that you felt so strongly that you only applied to them should show your dedication, determination, and especially point out how strongly you value a proper fit as well. I could go on and on about this, but I really think you should do this now, and not wait longer. If it were me, I would have probably sent it after I'd been reviewed once and not yet selected. Just be sure to really drive home what you love about them and what makes you the perfect fit. Good luck! :luck:

I've been calling Loyola every couple of Thursdays, and it seems like the default message has been that my application has been flagged, yadda yadda yadda. Except each time I call, they tell me to call them back the following month, which I've been doing for quite a few months now. Very depressing.

Is anyone else interviewing with me on tuesday? Im so nervous and excited at the same time!

i am also obsessed with loyola.

i have been complete since july and i have already sent two updates (the last one in october and it also had a paragraph of interest) the updates were about activities.

I dont know if i should send another letter of update but i want to ...i dont really have anything to include in it just grades from my fall quarter since I am still a senior. Do you think i should? Thanks and good luck everyone!!

Hmm... looks like I have some thinking to do. Do you guys think it'll look wierd to send in another letter so soon? (Though... I could say my final grade, so I'd have at least one thing to update them on...). Do you think I should mention why I hadn't mentioned earlier that Loyola is my only choice?

Thanks for the encouragement Phoenix! And you too Misty!

Perhaps it's time to through caution to the wind--I think I'll write that letter, and not ask my advisors to proof-read it! (Well... I'll ask my undergrad advisor/mentor--he's never discouraged me from an idea I had, other than wanting to transfer to another school my freshman year--I owe him a lot!)

BullishMD--I'd say if you have any new grades, certainly send those in. Good luck fellow loyola-obsessed pre-med!

-Brent

Does anybody know the general admissions office email? I want to send them an update, but they don't list a single email address on the Loyola website.

They don't have a general admissions office email that I'm aware of. They told me in the past to mail an update letter. Hope this helps!

I don't think there's anything wrong with sending another one now. Then again, I don't recall when you sent the last letter. If it was a month ago, perfect. Write a letter of INTENT now, include the grade, and stress why Loyola is perfect for you, and why you're perfect for Loyola. I don't see any reason why you should talk about why you didn't send this earlier. I wouldn't get into that. Just send it now (or soon if you *just* sent a letter of interest), and flesh out everything. :luck:

Aye aye captain! I'd send it now--but I have yet to write it! Stay tuned for further updates...

The last letter I sent in December--it was recieved by the Thursday before Christmas.

Thanks again for the encouragement,

Anybody call yet today(It's Thursday!!)?? Any new Loyola news??😍:luck:

my application will be reviewed anytime between "now and the end of march"
greaaaat 🙁

Does loyola just delay all of their rejections until april then or how does it work ? Have they rejected people ?

They will send out massive rejections at the end of the interview season (end of April?) or I'd like to call it MOAR (Mother Of All Rejections). So far, I think they have axed pre-secondary only.

Nellia - I was told the same thing today as well. What's strange is that last week they told me I should hear by the end of Feb. I'm guessing they must have reviewed me again over the course of this week? Ugh, Loyola is really frustrating me right now!

Someone said that they have an eight ball sitting on the desk, right next to the phone. Whenever the phone rings, they ask for your AMCAS ID# and pretend to look up your file. But what actually happens is they pick up the eight ball, shake it a few times, and read the message to you, "Your file will be reviewed again in Feb. Call back if you don't hear anything by end of Feb." or "Your file has been reviewed and will be reviewed again."

Now I'm starting to believe it.

Me too! I called 2 weeks ago and they told me i'm up for review in Feb. Last week, they said "between now and March," and today they told me "betwen now and APRIL!" 😱 It seems to get worse every time I call. I asked them if my file was reviewed since I last called but the person on the phone said it hasn't been since I called last week. I don't get it!

I think it's their way of making us stop calling every week. :meanie:

One of my classmates got invited to interview at Loyola late February last year and got pulled off the waitlist less than two-weeks before classes started. Literally, overnight he had to pack up his stuff and move to Chicago!

Called yesterday, will be re-reviewed in a few weeks. Said to call back in 4 weeks if I had not heard anything.

Question to anyone who has interviewed at Loyola... my friend is interviewing there on Monday and wanted to know if there is any portion of the day where you have to walk outside.

Thanks in advance!

only if her interviews are in the hospital, which they likely are at some point. its literally 20 yards from the school across the parking lot.

Part of the tour goes outside, but just to cross over to the hospital. But it shouldn't be too bad on Monday. Just stay on the sidewalks (never trust the grass, no matter how not-muddy it looks).

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure my tour guide took us underground to the hospital instead of outside. The only time I remember going outside was to walk across the parking lot from one building to another for my first interview. There may have been an underground connection, but it was September and beautiful out, so who knows? Regardless, there was A LOT of walking on the tour. If your friend is female, stress comfortable shoes.

Are you referring to Rick? He was in my post-bac program, and apparently had one of the biggest smiles anyone had ever seen when he came in to tell the faculty members he had been admitted!

I also heard from a Loyola student that there was a student who was accepted two weeks into the school year!

I didn't realize there were tunnels. When I interviewed it was rainy, but about 50 degrees outside (a very strange day in January). Maybe they'll take you underground when it's colder.

Are any other interviewees a little freaked out by the thought that the Loyola adcom could be talking about you right now (seeing how they meet today)? :scared: Best of luck everyone!

namsoon, you are definitely not the only one anxiously thinking about Loyola decisions today!! I would just love to get a phone call from them today saying I'm in and not have to wait until the mail comes!

Good luck to both of us!!

I was thinking the exact same thing! As irrational as it may be, I tried convincing myself that they might give me a call in addition to sending out a snail mail letter. I'll keep my phone nearby...just in case. 😀

Good luck guys!

:luck::luck::luck:

Thanks, Phoenix!

are they going over applications that havent interviewed yet and offering interviews too ? or just deciding acceptances ?

namsoon,

You are not being irrational at all! I know for a fact (from current students) that Dr. Muraskas, the chairman of the adcom, has been known to make phone calls to inform applicants of an acceptance. You'll still get a letter in the mail too, but his call would let you know sooner! If you look at the acceptance thread for this year, someone said they got a phone call on the day of the adcom meeting.

So don't worry, you're not the only one obsessively keeping your phone by you all day. I usually put mine to vibrate and leave it on my desk at work....but today I'm leaving the volume on....wishful thinking, I know.

As an aside....no phone call today does not mean that we are not in, as others have indicated, including Phoenix, that they only got an acceptance letter, no phone call.

Still thinking good thoughts of luck!

I'm not sure about offering interviews. I just know that Dean Norstrom said on my interview day that interviewed applicants would be decided on at today's meeting. Sorry that its not a definitive answer, but hopefully it helps.

When I interviewed, one of my interviewers said that he had to go to the adcom meeting in the evening. To fuel our neuroticism, all I know is that last time (the 7th) it was sometime after 3pm.

Thanks for the info neuroprotector! Hopefully if/when someone gets a phonecall, they'll post it. Otherwise we'll all just be waiting for letters at the end of this week or early next.

I'll be sure to post if I hear from them. Otherwise, they said they would be postmarked within 48 hours of the decision. Since I'm currently a little bit overcaffeinated, I don't want to wait that long.

That is true. At least they are going to be timely with the mailing of letters.🙂
But I agree, I don't want to wait that long either....I have to leave my desk job for the rest of the day now for my free clinic job....so if I get a phone call in say the next 6 hours or so, I won't be able to post it until I get home for the night. I also won't be able to check and see if you or namsoon (or anyone else for that matter) gets a call in this window. Oh well....compulsive cell phone checking for me!

Good luck!:luck::luck::luck:

Woah, didn't know that they actually do make calls! I mean, I was able to justify my thinking because they call to schedule interviews, so I thought that policy might carry over to the informing of decisions as well, but I didn't really think it could be true...glad to hear that it actually is/may be! Thanks for the info (and the added anxiety 😉), Cowgirl!

I dunno if I can wait either. I'll be hearing back from a good number of other schools this week as well, so maybe that will tide me over (provided the response from those schools are positive, of course 😳).

i just wanted to add that when i received my phone call from loyola it was around 5:30 in the evening on the monday the adcom met. hope that helps the 'waiting for the phone to ring' stress level a little bit. good luck!!! :luck:

this is scaring me from ever calling them :laugh:

Just to help people relax (or add to the stress) I was accepted and did NOT get a phone call from anybody. In other words, don't worry if your phones don't ring tonight.

Thanks, Flop. I actually remember reading the Loyola thread from when you applied (that thread is actually what convinced me to apply myself...everyone was just so supportive == exactly the kind of classmates that I would want!), and I remember reading about the agonizing wait you went through. Hopefully we won't have to go through that!

I wish I didn't have to post this....but I did get a phone call this afternoon....and it was for the waitlist. So frustrating!

Good luck to the rest of you waiting for letters next week! Hopefully yours will bring better news than the one I now know I'll be getting.

That's so confusing. Hurry up and wait?

That's so confusing. Hurry up and wait?

No kidding. Especially since Loyola does not rank their wait list until after all interviews (late April/early May). So the earliest possibility for movement is sometime mid-late May.

Aw, sorry to hear that Cowgirl. I agree with neuroprotector, it's very strange that they would do that. Hopefully they come to their senses soon and let you in!

Thanks! I actually had a dream last night that Loyola hand delivered the letter to me, and I ended up getting put on hold. Hopefully real life will play out better! 😳
