Loans forever! I'm at about 50-50 between subsidized and unsubsidized. I listed significant personal assets/money on my FAFSA but it looks like I got the 28000/year. Does the school leave it up to you as to when and how much personal money you use? I figure I'll try to cut into the unsubsidized loan total.

Hmm...you might want to call or e-mail them to make sure nothing went wrong with the mailing...

Oh yeah, and I'm typing this from my laptop with a brand new wireless card at my home with a brand new wireless network (that I have been setting up all day). This year gonna be great! I hated coming home to dial up after being a college with my cable modem...

TongueInCheek, do you have the one from this year?

Unfortunately, no. I email J. Scott Wright back in February for last year's, so he might have compiled this year's by now.

Sorry, there is no wireless access anywhere at UTSW. But there is an ethernet port at each carrel and all over the library.

I looked on the library's website, and it says they have wireless. I guess I could e-mail them...

It says it in two places on here... Library Info

Wow, you guys are reading every detail of every website. Well, maybe there is some wireless-type access somewhere on this campus. I can tell you that I didn't even know about it and I don't know anyone who uses it.

I stopped by Southwestern today to turn in my financial aid forms in person. I'll be gone from Friday until early July, but I'll be back to hang out with you all. Good luck with moving and the transition! I can't believe I am finished with college!

So what is everyone up to from now until August? Apparently G Eagle is going AWOL. My guess is he's going to become a big game fisherman in a coastal town in Costa Rica. Good luck with the fish...

I'm working for a couple more weeks in College Station before I go to Europe for a little while and then drive around the western United States for a few weeks. With gas prices rising like they are, I don't know which trip will be more expensive!

On a side note, somehow Nick at Nite and WGN are in sync with the Cosby Show. The two episodes that showed last nite at 1 a.m. on Nick at Nite are now showing on WGN. Erie...

I'll be working at a camp from this Friday until July 4th. It'll be my last chance to let out my fun side. Then, I'm going to get really dull and booorrriiinnggg...

Just kidding...I do plan on having a good time. Good luck in your travels. Europe is an amazing place!

So I think that Baylor has us beat for the pure quantity of posts on SDN. The way I figure it, though, is we'll definitely take them on the dodgeball court. I got a bouncy red ball with Baylor face written all over it...

Four square was so cool! Except that some person would get in the first square and then make tons of stupid rules that slanted the game in his favor...like *black magic* I hated black magic...

Black magic was banned from being used in our games in elementary school. I guess each region kinda had its own rules, I was outside of Houston for elementary school.

Did yall ever play a modified version of dodgeball called coneball? There were two cones on the back edges of each side. You can win by knocking down the opposing two cones or hitting all the opposing players. It was a blast.

We should have banned it... Teachers were too busy drinking on their breaks.... Coneball sounds like a good variation. We played something called mash where you throw soft balls at other people. Hit them in the leg or arm, and they lose that part. Head or Abdomen is a kill. I have a feeling that game was ended because it was too risky for kids to import it to their homes. For example, my older brother and I played it with croquet balls. Ah, I love stitches at the Baylor ER...

Ha ha ha, Gleevec is playing right into our hands. Little does he realize that UTSW actually has intramural dodgeball. His makeshift team of Baylor (Bears?) will be no match for the organized chaos of UTSW! We will hone our skills for a season amongst ourselves before unleashing the hounds of hell upon them. How will we decide who has home court advantage? We should probably play in Huntsville or something. Either way, the Bears are definitely in for some 'bad news'. Victory shall be ours...

Actually, not affiliated with the Baylor Bears at all. While you may have your "formal dodgeball" my team will be comprised of ballaz cultivated on the mean streets of h-town. The street is the best teacher of them all.

We should play in New York City.

Also Troy sucks a big one, stay the hell away if you dont want to waste 3 hours and 5 bucks.

For any of you guys who filled out their financial aid information that came in the packet, were we supposed to do anything online? I only filled out the forms in the packet and turned those in. Was I supposed to contact the private lender to arrange the loan, or will I get more information about that? I put them down on the MPN and turned that in....

I dunno G_Eagle. Sorry.

When are we supposed to turn in the financial aid stuff? Is there a due date?

Gleevec, this may diminish me in your eyes, but I actually liked Troy. It loosely followed the original story line, but what historical movie ever does??

strange. I usually only skip over the cosbys, unless Theo is creating some sort of scam. What kind of OB is billy cosby? He never works! His pager must ring the mailman over at Cheers or MacGyver. I think I saw MacGyver deliver a kiddo with an orange, a dog collar, and Conan O'Brien's comb. Did you see the episode where bill wore the cool sweater? I can't remember what episode it was. Did fat albert make a guest appearance? hmmmmmm.....

Well, I just got back from apartment hunting in Big D. Decided to live for the next year in Inwood on the Park apartments, literally within walking distance of the school. I loved it and would recommend it, although I haven't actually lived there.

Oh, and I don't know about dodgeball, but we will own anybody at foosball. Bring it.

On financial aid, I think I saw somewhere in that crazy stack of papers that they expect everything back in two weeks from when they sent it. Everything except student copies and that sheet for direct deposit. I also think I saw that you just write the lender on the MPN and don't contact them directly. I spent the better part of a plane ride last weekend going through all that stuff.

About that cool sweater, I'm pretty sure I saw that one. It was the one where Cosby did that thing with his face and either Denise or Vanessa had some seriously messed up hair.

On a serious note, MacGyver is my hero. I remember an episode where he delivered a baby in a junkyard. If I remember, the pregnant lady's husband was running a home for parolees and using them in his crime syndicate. She finds out and runs away and is saved by MacGyver. Ultimately, Mac delivers the baby and somehow uses nautical flags to signal to the police. In retrospect, it seems unrealistic, but it all seemed to make sense at the time.

I like the Cosby show...I guess every sitcom on tv runs with the same formulas... Don't you love how predictable we as an audience are for the television gurus?

Gleevec, I think you should be the official intermedical school representative for Baylor (or at least one of them). That way, we can all meet at a neutral site and challenge each other to a duel. But first we would eat lunch together and decide that we are so pleasantly full that a duel wouldn't fit in the schedule. Then we'd all go see a movie instead or something like that. We'd part ways promising that next week we'd duel...but just end up doing the same thing all over again....yep, good times....

And we could trade complaints about how there never is enough to study and about how we can't be the ones who cure ALL the patients, the attendings need to help out too...

I digress...

I got an e-mail back from financial aid. We don't have to do anything online. Filling out the forms the mailed us is enough.

Hey Guys,

I can't seem to find my admissions packet (I moved recently so its in a box somewhere), but is there a deposit due for southwestern soon? I haven't gotton my financial aid packet yet, so I expect that they don't need a deposit until we know how much aid we are getting, but please let me know if I am wrong.

Thanks

Hello everyone!

I just found out I got into UTSW and I can't wait to meet all of you! You seem like a fantastic bunch of classmates. I am so excited for this fall!

I want to withdraw from my seat at UTHSCSA ASAP, I will do it first thing tommorrow. Can anyone give me advice on the proper way to do it? (email, phone, formal letter of withdrawal etc.) I know that time is a huge factor at this point in the process, so I want to make a call, but I don't know if that looks ungrateful or anything. I don't want to offend anybody. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! I'll see you all in August!

Congrats, Murdawg! See you in August!

Well, I am a Texan now! Yee haaaaw!!! Just moved in yesterday. Unpacking and shopping today. It's so weird living in such a big city like Dallas. I have about 12 Best Buy's to choose from. Fortunately I have the whole summer to explore. Maybe I'll see some of you around! I know there are many UTSW students living in my apartment complex. I've seen several bumper stickers and people in white coats already.

I'm new to all this, but I've enjoyed reading your posts and thought I'd jump in. Especially, now, when I'm in trouble! Is there anyone else out there that hasn't turned in their financial aid package? I just noticed the two week deadline. You'd think it would be in LARGE BOLD print or something like that!
So, what are they going to do with me, bar the doors or something?

Oh, and another question. Went apartment hunting Saturday -- so many to choose from. Looked at the Madison on Cedar Springs - looked pretty nice. I've heard some wild things about that area, though it looked pretty nice to me. Any input, anyone?

Welcome to the Official UTSW thread!

I agree with the LARGE BOLD print suggestion... or maybe a separate, step-by-step instruction sheet. I don't have time to comb through all the fine print (especially when the entire document is fine print).

I hope they don't bar the doors to you. :scared: My suggestion is to just call them, apologize or something, and get it to them ASAP. Having waited this long you may be at a disadvantage as far as getting good money, though. I'm not sure.

I didn't look at that specific apartment, but I think I'm in the same part of town (not sure though, don't really know my way around yet, I just recognize that street name from when I was apartment hunting). Things haven't seemed particularly wild so far...but we'll see. Good luck on your search and decision.

No worries. You are talking about your award letter, right? If you are late with the FAFSA you might not get good money, but you will be fine. Believe me, I've been late every year and it my award has never changed.

Hey...I turned mine in the other day....I just went up to the office in the student services building and everything was okay....they didn't even seem concerned. You shouldn't sweat it, but you should get it in ASAP.

Do you mean your shot records? I know I'm going to have to get stuck sometime this summer. But I haven't gotten that done yet, either.

Yeah, I need to find all that info, and then see if I need to get any more shots. I have had the TB test done the past two summers since I did summer programs, do you have to have it done once a year?
