What kind of other talents do you mstp-ers applicants have, besides pipetting skills?

Math, physics, computer programming, karate, etc...

Witty banter. That's a talent, right?

I've been told I'm a good rapper. 😀 Seriously

Improv Comedy, Bari Sax, Extreme Sarcasm

Seriously though, we all would be pretty sad if all we could do was pipet, right?

I don't know that I've got any "talents", but I do have a bunch of interesting hobbies.

LOL I read this as "Bari Sex" and was like whoa, what is that????

Google promptly informed me.

"Did you mean 'Bari Sax'?"

Fail...

Its true, another one of my talents is being great in bed. 😛

A capella

Trust me - if you form a group you'll be loved forever.

Oh, and being good in bed, but that's a given among people like us. 😎

no, you can't bring your pipet to bed. that doesn't count

A capella sounds good. I do not sing or dance as a public service.

My special talent probably is infinite knowledge about unimportant and silly things.

IDK if I can slide such audicious statement unchallenged, but I could issue notarized certificate after personal, privet and confidential verification...LOL JK.😀

Things I am good at: Folk guitar. Carrying 10 glasses of water or six large dinner plates sans tray. Also, I'm the best at giving injections to rats. No joke. Building things (anyone need a new porch?). Mowing the lawn. Biking. Eating raspberries. Photocopying.

Things I am bad at: taking no for an answer. Giving no as an answer. Economics. Caring about big businesses. Turning down raspberries or free ice cream. Basketball. Faxing.

I know know how personal and confidential it will be if there has to be a notary present. 😛

I am also bad at faxing. HORRIBLE, in fact. Maybe that's because I've only ever done international faxes.

I'm good at algorithms, which I think is part of a larger principle of being good at seeing a system of pieces interacting over time. This lends itself to programming and the like, but also complex games like poker, board games, etc.

I'm also good in bed. Inspectors welcome 😎

The innuendo in this thread amuses me. I thought MSTP students were supposed to be the GOOD kids 😉 😉 😉.

Calf, you are right. I think internet kinda gives testicular fortitude. I would probably would not have said the same to GliaGirl in person (may be) 😀

We are good.... IN BED!!! :biglove:

Like all MD-PhD students I am great at pretending to be a sex god online when in reality I unleash my pent up frustration by reading bromance novels or (for girls) Danielle Steel.

Does that include the Gummi Bears theme song? ...good times... 🙂

here's another you may like.... can you guess what it is?????

Some times, some crimes..... go slipping through the cracks but these two, gum-shoes, are keeping up the task.... (step up tempo) there's no case too big/no case too small....

When you need help just call! ____________

Rescue rangers!!

Good jerb! 🙂

Let's bump up the difficulty.....

Here we are, face-to-face.... a couple of __blankity-blank-blank____
Hopin' to find, were two of-a-kind, making it go, maknig it grow...

(up tempo) Together.... were gonna find our way....
Together... taking the time each day....

I kinda forget the next part.

can't help but add to this thread. don't know if this is exactly 80's, but 90s were cool too: "A cloud of smoke and he appears, a master of disguise / who's that cunning mind behind the shadow in the skies? somewhere some villain schemes, but his number's up...3, 2, 1! [Blank blank blank] Let's--get--dangerous..."

hmmmm....... maybe darkwing duck? I just remember the "let's get dangerous" part....

OK... another tough one fer you youngsters....

...Thank you for being a friend... Travel down the road and back again... your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant....
(chorus) [never could make out these lyrics- sorry]....
...Thank you for being a friend....

... And here is an easy one (BTW, it's hard to think of songs that don't have the name of the show plastered all over them)...

"Making your way, in the world today, takes everything you've got/
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot/
Don't you wanna get away?"

If you didn't get it yet, you will in this next part...

"sometimes you wanna go- where everybody knows you name....
And you're always glad you came....

You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same... You wanna go where everybody knows your name... [da dadadada da da...]"

OK... another tough one fer you youngsters....

...Thank you for being a friend....

Golden Girls!!!
Yay!
*JulyMorning is thinking whether she should go and watch Golden Girls, or study for that exam next Friday...* Yep, Golden Girls win outright!😀

Oh dear! I just saw the news: Bea Arthur passed away at age 86. There'll never be another Bea Arthur...

Golden Girls! Loves it!

I actually really suck at lyrics for the most part. My talent is the opposite- perfect pitch. That Golden Girls song is in D Major. Saved by the Bell is a minor. Simpsons- C Maj. That Jeopardy jingle during the final question- B Major. The NBC theme: G-E-C.

*Sigh* if only this helped me in any meaningful way. I kinda wish I had a useful talent, like karate or porch-building.

Awesome! I'll give you my black belt in taekwon-do if you give me your perfect pitch. Deal?

Oh man, I'd love to! I'm 5'2'' and being able to kick @ss could probably intimidate my committee into submission 🙂

All jokes aside, though, I would recommend joining a martial arts school (make sure it's a good one though) to pretty much anyone. It's never too late to start, plus I find my training to be a nice break away from everything that's got to do with medical school and all things medical (unless someone twists their ankle during the workout, at which point I examine it and slap ice on it). Oh, yeah, it also supports my pizza habit (you know, "eat a large pizza, don't gain a pound" sorta thing), and might be helpful if ever I need to defend myself (hopefully, the need never arises).
Cheers!

I run ultra-marathons. That's my escape from real life. Training gives you long periods of alone time which is nice for both clearing your head and working over problems. Plus, it's a great analogy for MD/PhD...a long, lonely and painful process with little fanfare and recognition at the end. Just saying.

Seriously, ultra-marathons? Like, 50 miles? More? I've run a couple normal marathons..but I can't imagine thinking at the end, "hmm, let me run another 30 miles now." Insane!

Although, I do agree- long-distance running is a great break from med school. Honestly, I felt that long runs every week helped me more with the endurance aspect of Step 1 than just taking practice tests.

Yeah...100 miles is the furthest I've ran - some folks do more. Staying up all night, achey body, seeing weird things - must be just like being on-call.

If you can run a marathon you can run a 50-miler, at least. Past 26 miles it's no longer a physical challenge, it's all mental.
