PCOM (Philadelphia) Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just got the same email and immediately emailed them back. My committee letter has been on Virtual Evals since late June and my D.O mailed his letter on July 25th, and he did mail it to the main campus. I told them if it needs to be mailed to the Georgia Campus to let me know. My recommender even said he wrote "Georgia Campus" in the address on the envelope.

They have been slow on email in the past so I am going to call them tommorrow as well.

You're so on top of it!! Could you please let me know if they need the letters sent directly to the Georgia Campus once you hear something? Thanks!!!

do they email everybody about their application, whether it is complete or not? i still didnt hear anything from them, i just know they cashed my check.

edit-
i got an email from GA -PCOM stating they didnt receive my letters. I guess they lost it, cause my school send out the letters for PCOM and GA PCOM at the same time, and one school got it.

Did you call the Philadelphia campus to know they received your letters or did they e-mail you?

i assumed they got it?
i sent them both at the same time, since pcom didnt email me, i assume they have everything. i think i'll give them a call tomorrow.
since they got one for pcom, they should just photocopy it and give it to the ga-pcom adcom

has anyone been complete here yet? they dont seem to reply to emails...

we mail the pcom-ga 2ndary app to the same address as the philadelphia campus, correct?

Yes, just like with ATSU, everything goes to the "main" campus, which in this case is Philly.

anyone get any updates on their status? i sent my stuff in more than a month ago, still hasnt been received yet apparently..

I never received a complete email from them but I emailed a few days after my checks cleared and heard I am complete with PCOM-PA, just missing my letters for the GA campus.

Thethethe, how did your situation resolve? I just posted on the PCOM-GA thread because I am in the same situation as you. Did calling them help? I emailed saying the letters were the same and asked if they could copy the letters from my PA file for my GA file. Is this an Interfolio thing?

This whole thing with the undergrad letters is really irritating. While in undergrad, I never made the effort to go to see the premed advisor or the academic advisor. So my relationship with either of these is non-existent.

I called PCOM and asked them if they would accept letters from advisors/faculty from my grad program and they said they would accept them but not in place of the undergrad letters.

All the advisors that I may have seen during undergrad are gone (I called this week and confirmed), the premedical advisor only saw me November 3, 2004 and never again. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Someone said that the Dean of the school wrote a letter on their behalf. Did you have a relationship with the Dean or did they just look up your transcripts and write a generic letter based on your academic performance?

I'd be more than happy to forward them my LORs from my grad program as well as my transcripts and CV, but at the same time I don't want a crappy letter from someone that doesn't know who I am.

UGH! any suggestion will help!😕

are you in grad school now? if so, i would go talk to the pre-med advisor of your grad university and explain your situation. ask them to help you out with a letter. hopefully they'll be understanding of your situation. offer to: give them your cv, personal statement, answer any questions they have at any time, etc. you may even want to send the letters you do have to them so they can get an idea of what your about in the eyes of other people that know you.

good luck.

I am in a similar situation, I am just going to try and contact my old advisor and hope for the best.

The premed advisor has to be from the school where I got my BS, which was FSU. I already completed my Master's this past June at another university 🙁

I emailed the premed advisor at FSU my situation and offered him those things.. let's see if he lets that slide. If not, I don't know what my next step would be. I would be beyond upset if I can't apply to PCOM just because my undergrad can't supply a letter.

Ah, I see. Good luck. I hope everything works out for ya. I'll be rooting for you.

Hey everyone. I keep getting PMs from various people asking me "Why PCOM? How is it so far? How are your classmates?" After our exam on the 3rd I'll write something up. I just don't really have the time right now to write out a full response. Remind me, cuz I might forget by then! 🙂 Best of luck! Some of you should probably be hearing the first or second week of September about interviews, like I did last year.

Edit: bolded changed things

Get off SDN and study!

It's already the last week of August! Has anyone heard about interviews yet? Maybe they're running a bit behind this cycle..? I called them today to see if my application is complete, and it is. Just crossing my fingers now for an interview invite :xf:

Hey, for applicants who have submitted everything and are not sure if they're "complete" and are waiting for an email, I suggest that you call admissions directly and find out. I submitted my stuff a few weeks ago and was waiting for a "complete" email. I called them today and found out that they were waiting on my LORs which were posted on VirtualEvals for a while... so yeah, they just downloaded them and I am now complete. Call them if you're unsure!

no email, but i called and confirmed that i was complete.

Interview on September 21st!

??? I called to confirm I was complete yesterday and she said invites wouldnt be going out for a little while.

How did they contact you???

They sent me an email today with the date. All I had to do was respond to confirm.

Woo hoo! Got the secondary today. Haven't looked at it yet ... hoping it's not hard. 🙁

Me too. It says letters may be accepted via virtual evals. Does this mean interfolio is not accepted?

The AACOMAS College Information Handbook says they do accept Interfolio.

I submitted my secondary for PCOM the day after I received it, which was the first day they were sent out back in July. I was complete like 1 week later with them.

Still no word from them. Considering everyone and their brother applies to PCOM, isn't there anyone else here besides CM1019 that received an interview invite????

I've been anticipating PCOM's release of interview invites...

Good luck to everyone applying to PCOM! I'm a first year and really love it. I wish you the best on the entire application process.

Sorry if this has been answered already.

Can we use the same essay answers on the Georgia-PCOM secondary app. as the Philadelphia PCOM secondary app?

Does anyone know how/if they will substitute LORs if your undergrad had no pre-med committee or advisers or even counselors whatsoever??

Still NO ONE else has heard anything?? Strange.....

I passed by the admissions office today and saw ~4 to 5 people getting interviews at the admission office. I wonder if they were D.O. applicants. It's possible that they were interviewing students for another program though.

Wow. The thing is that I know many of us here on SDN have been complete with PCOM for a while. Zillions of people apply there and there is only one post of someone getting an invite right now. Just seems weird, also considering they didnt start interviews until late September-early October last year.

I used LORs from science profs and an undergrad adviser/writing prof (not premedical by any means) with my DO and MD letters and got the OK from them. I had to get in touch with one of the letter writers to have him resubmit his letter on letterhead at their request but they accepted everything. If youre unsure give them a call...everyone I have dealt with there has been more than accomadating.

My data came from someone else sitting in the lobby. Bleh, SPOM sucks.

I agree. I felt like a lot of ppl are gonna ditch da tutorial for cellular tomolo. That's wat I overheard in the lobby...
