PERIO Match/Pass 2020-2021

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got the reject from San Antonio, but got an interview for OKC... any tips on the interview processes (questions, etc.) and how quickly after an interview an offer is made??

Is anyone applying to Canadian Perio Programs? Was considering applying to University of British Columbia in Vancouver, but the application is $286 canadian dollars ($212 american). Seems incredibly expensive for an APPLICATION.

Has anyone applied to Augusta University (DCG) and heard back?

Hi any idea about the following schools, have they given out any interviews emails or calls ?
1.NYU
2.COLUMBIA
3.UPENN
4.HARVARD
5.UCLA
6.UNC
7.UAB
8.USC

*Are there any applicants who heard neither rejection nor acceptance for interview from UT San Antonio?
* Any interview invitation from UCLA?

I know UAB invited last Monday for interviews. Didn’t apply to the others on your list except UCLA. I think UCLA’s deadline is September 1 so I don’t think their invites will be til after.

If one were to consider applying to AEGD as a back up , any idea how to do it via PASS since it already has LOR from faculty for periodontics residency?

I don’t think you can select which recommendations to send once the evaluators have submitted them. Your only options are to find programs outside PASS or be clear with the AEGD directors. Tell them you have applied to Perio but you’re not getting interviews or less interviews than what you expected so now you’re applying to AEGD. If they like you, they will match you regardless.

Also ask your evaluators if they have mentioned your intentions in applying to perio in the survey. The PASS evaluation is basically questions and the evaluators are choosing the options of choices like “beyond expectations, good, or average” and things like that. There are areas to write extra comments as well, but not all the evaluators do them. So double check with them first cause maybe you can use the same surveys for AEGD.

Is there merit to emailing schools and asking updates on your application?

Anyone hear back from Columbia?

Has anyone who interviewed at BU heard back regarding a decision yet?

This is more of a general question for interviews and likely depends on several factors but just wanted to see if anyone on here had heard anything different.

I know that in order to increase your chances of matching with a program it is generally in your favor to attend as many interviews as you can as it’s a simple numbers game essentially. The more interviews the higher your chances of acceptance.
Although this would be ideal, financially and practically making the flights and interviews to each school is expensive and time consuming( I am currently a practicing dentist).
Is anyone on here aware of the average number of interviews in which candidates attend in order to increase their chances of matching ?
Is it 1-3, 3-5,5-8 or 8+?
Thanks in advance. Just a thought.

I applied to 8 schools and heard from 6 of them:
Interviews - Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska (UNMC), Louisville, and UAB
Rejection - UTSA
Nothing yet - Minnesota and UM-KC

Columbia sent out invitations last week. They offered 6 separate days for interviews.
I got email last week they are reviewing applications and application forwarded to the committee

Hey, can you tell me when did Louisville sent the invites? I just applied there

Tufts sent invites 2 weeks ago
they did not even send me an application complete email.. I emailed more than 2 times since last month asking if they received it and whither it was complete or not but no one replied. and I called and they hung up on me.....
I mean they literally stopped replying after they received my payment and won't even email me a complete application email
I think their admission office is kinda disorganized. makes you wonder how they function within the departments.

Sorry for the long rant but I am very disappointed in their process. we're professional individuals and I think we should be treated as such.

How did you pay for the supplemental fee do they want a check or I can do it online ?
I’m an international student and i want to know if its possible to apply now , if you don't mind me asking

It was an online payment. But I’d be honest and say it’d be a waste of money to apply now because they’ve already sent their invitations.
Save your money and time and work on your application for next year.

Would anyone that has been through the process before be willing to give any tips? Possible interview questions to be prepared for, anything unexpected? It would be much appreciated

I have only had 2 interviews, but they each had their own vibe (one more serious and one more laid back) and their questions reflected that. From those experiences, I would prepare for similar questions to those that you had when applying to dental school. Examples: what is your greatest strength/weakness?, Why [insert schools name]?, Why perio?, etc.
