Well, it worked (and possibly would have continued to work) as long as there was a close-ish lynch and genny wasn't one of two. If she'd been around to defend, we could possibly still be here scratching our heads over how the lynch runner up kept dying.Part of the problem with that theory is that they had to know it wouldn't work long term.
And even in the long term, I don't see any harm to the wolves beyond the harm from losing one. Keeping the village confused early on sounds like good wolf strategy to me. Or genny was a lone wolf and didn't have the experience to look long-term.
