You guys know how full it is? Do I still have a realistic shot at an interview?

Ok so I got the secondary yesterday. Is it worth turning it in at this point or is it too late?

MCAT 26R 7PS 10VR 9BS
GPA 3.95 scienceGPA 3.96
Tons of extra curricular leadership experience and mission trips/volunteer work
About 115 Hours of shadowing, and great rec letter from the PCOM graduate that I shadowed
Ties to Atlanta area

I would definitely submit it if you can turn it around quickly. I finished my secondaries around this time last year and interviewed in March, accepted in May. It doesn't hurt to put it out there. There is a lot of interviewing to go still. Good luck!

The 250 deposit. They received mine and sent me an email saying they'll mail me a packet in a few weeks.

When do you all think one should start looking for places to live?

My roommate and I started looking in mid February, but we were both specific about what we wanted and we lived a considerable distance from Georgia. If you're looking at one of the more popular apartment complexes or you have a specific time you'd want to start your lease, I think it's better to look early so you have one less thing to worry about.

I also know plenty of people in my class who didn't start looking until June and they ended up just fine 🙂

Where do most of the students, who are married with children, live? (I wanna learn secure and family friendly places in regions having good schools.)

You'd have to get input from a student with a family (I know a couple check in every now and then). I think most of them rent or buy houses in the area.

We are looking for the same as well (I'm married with 2 kids) and I've found http://www.greatschools.org/ to be a great resource for school information in the area.

Realtor.com will let you know the school district that a particular house in and then you can research the school itself to see if you like the information.

I think we will end up buying in the Buford/Sugar Hill area but any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I've been thinking about to buy a house/condo, too. But, I'm concerned with where I'd end up for residency after med school, as well as with the 3rd-4th year clinical rotations. Thus, I'd rather rent an apartment or a townhouse.

Any recommendation from current/graduated students is welcome.

I live a couple of blocks away off Sever Rd. Very affordable housing with some great schools. Peachtree Ridge HS and Elementary are literally a straight shot down Old Peachtree Rd. on the Duluth side of the 85, Jackson Elementary is on Sever Rd and Hull MS is on Old Peachtree as well. Some friends of my me and my wife live a quarter mile from the school in housing that ranges in the 140's to the 170's and many of them come up for rent often. Other than this, the campus is ringed with ten year old townhomes in in the 100's to 120's.

For some reason, I can't log into my (old) account...

Anyways, I just received a letter stating that my decision has been delayed 🙁.
I'm looking on the bright side; it's not a rejection lol. I remember from the interview that Trena told us a delayed decision ends up in an acceptance most of the time.

Arghh, the wait is killing me. I've already been accepted to VCOM and ACOM, but I love everything about this school. I'm going to email Trena to see when I should expect a final decision.

I have an interview on Feb. 1st. I was on the website trying to see what the campus looked like and it seems like it is one big building that also includes school of pharmacy. For anyone who has already visited the school is this true? Also how was the atmosphere during your interview (laid back?, stressed? etc.) Thank you in advance for your input.

It is like the Tardis; not much to look at from the outside (looks a lot like the other light commercial buildings in the area), but is very nice, bright and spacious on the inside.

Yes, but the inside is very nice. You'll be pleasantly surprised. It does include the School of Pharmacy, but they have their own section of the building. However, don't think that Pharmacy will clash with the Osteopathic students. From what I have seen both times that I have visited the school (tour a few months ago and from my interview), the atmosphere is friendly. Everyone gets along really well.

The interview is laid back. They just want to get to know you better. 🙂

Thank you very much for the feedback guys. Seems like a nice place to study medicine.

Still no word yet. Completed in October. 3.2 sgpa, 3.4 overall. 26Q. (9 ps, 8 vr, 9 bs). Still have a shot at this point? Or should I go ahead and plan to retake MCAT?

I would consider your chances very slim...my gpa was ~3.6 and 25 MCAT, complete also in october...no word...we're in the same boat...our best bet would be to reapply next year 🙁

for those of you that have interviewed, when did you find out who your interviewer was? Did you get a heads up or did you find out the day of?

Don't be too hard on yourself. I have a 3.7 and a 25 and have been accepted somewhere and still have interviews coming up. I'm hoping for a PCOM-GA interview though...would love to settle down near Atlanta for a while.

After paying the deposit has anybody got anything else in the mail?

For those of you who plan on attending, are you leaning more towards an apartment or house?

Same for me. I will definitely be looking for roommates regardless though.

Just out of curiousity, why go for roommates? I get that it decreases your personal rent, but you have less privacy and they might be messy (esp. in the kitchen and bathroom), or might be distracting. I would appreciate different perspectives 🙂

I do all of my studying away from home (library, lab, etc.) so it wouldn't be too big of a distraction. A big part of me wanting to choose roommates is the cheaper rent and the possibility of getting a house.

There are usually 1-2 houses for rent down the street from the school. There are also 2 townhouse developments on Old Peachtree that have rentals, though most are 2-3 bedroom.

Hi guys, I'm a c/o 2015 student... I saw some posts wanting to know about where married guys/gals with kids live, etc. If you want more info, just PM me.... I can fill you in on how it's been for us and our criteria for choosing a house. Also, if you are looking for housing, I had a realtor that drove us around all day (free of charge) and helped us find the perfect house to rent. I would love to recommend her.

Good luck to all of you... enjoy your free time!

Don't lose hope! I am a first year student and my roommate was put on delayed decision and he was admitted in May, I believe. From what I understand, it just means that they like you, but you are possibly on the line and they want to finish looking at other candidates before they green-light you. They don't put just anyone on that list. Good luck!

When I was accepted last year, it took almost a month to get my binder. The Admissions Office gets pretty jammed up this time of year (I think Trena is the only one running most of it) and some people had to call and ask to have it sent, as I guess they were overlooked. If it takes more than a month, call Trena.

I received my acceptance letter yesterday!!
I'm so excited. I can't wait to start 🙂.

Congrats on all those accepted!! I will also be attending GA-PCOM in August. I'm an Atlanta native and both my father and sister are Realtors and know the area very well. If anyone is interested in buying, let me know, and I can pass along their contact information.

I think I'm screwed at this point...
3.7 cum, 3.6 sci, 25Q, and complete at the end of August!
Still no word...but this school thread seems slow for this year.

Yulka, congrats on the acceptance! Looking forward to meeting you and everyone else at the orientation. I'm still looking for a place to stay and possible roommates. Do you know of any rental property in Suwanee that can be split among 3-4 students?

There are currently a few houses for rent within a mile of campus. If I go by them later today I'll get a better count. I know of at least 1 townhouse for rent just down the street.

Okay, great, thanks for the help. 1 mile away would be ideal, especially since I'm hoping to commute on my bike. Are you attending PCOM in the Fall?

Not as of yet. I live less than a mile from PCOM for 14 years or so, so I'm familiar with the area.
