Philadelphia COM - Philadelphia (PCOM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

Does anyone know if PCOM prescreens before sending out secondaries? If they do, how long does it typically take from the time they receive the primary to the point where they send out secondaries? PCOM is one of my top two choices, so I'm very excited.
 
PCOM sends the secondary to all applicants. idk what the time frame is between primary and secondary, since I was one of those who applied on day 1 and was waiting for them to actually start sending apps, but now that they've got the ball rolling, I'd think it shouldn't be too long. Good luck! 🙂
 
Can anyone tell me exactly how our letters of recommendation are supposed to be submitted? Just mailed on letterhead I assume?

Looks like they sent out decisions for those who interviewed the first week which was on 9/19
 
Can some one please comment on my situation! do any of you know of any Canadians EVER being admitted into PCOM main campus??

But Im now only interested on PCOM! that would be my absolute absolute number 1 choice because I have a sibling attending SALUS! (we would be literally 20 mins away)
however I have heard that PCOM is not specifically Canadian friendly and I am already having trouble getting a letter form an academic advisor.... I have not received the secondary yet ( I was verifyed 2 days ago) but I have received the secondary form the Georgia Campus ( which I really dont want to fill out because I dont really want to go there..
But I dont know If I have a decent shot at PCOM.

Also I would consider the Georgia campus if I was able to transfer to Phili the next year.. is that a possibility?

I interviewed there two weeks ago! The campus was absolutely beautiful! Everyone was so nice too! Definitely a top choice school.

so we send a check for 250 and the enclosed forms to the same address we sent the secondary forms/check? also is there a group for class of 2017 on facebook yet?

I got a letter of acceptance in the mail today too!!!!! Woooohoooo!!!!
 
On a scale of 1 - 10, how obnoxious is it for me to make a PCOM 2017 facebook group?

Canadian dude/dudette:

1) don't plan on transferring--it's not college and it is inifinitely more difficult to do in med school
2) my roommate was a Canadian citizen and was accepted; she's now a US citizen but it is possible.

I also interviewed on 9/20, and for all the people who have been accepted, how much time do you have to send in the $2000 or whatever it is to hold your spot? One week? Two weeks? Thanks.
 
Got a secondary finally. Do you guys think its too late to send it in?

Hi Tianar. Congrats on your acceptance!!! I also interviewed on 9/20 (haven't got my letter yet), and according to the acceptance letter, much time do you have to send in the $2000 or whatever it is to hold your spot? One week? Two weeks? Thanks.

The letter states you have til December 14th to send in a $250 deposit and then til April 15th for the $1500 deposit.
 
THank you so much for the reply! I will be submitting my secondary this week! I hope im not too late! PCOM is definately my number one choice! I dont know if I should mention that in my secondary though? ( that I had the opportunity to briefly visit the campus when my sister interviewed at Salus last year plus the added bonus of being close to a family member! Should I?)

I think you made the fb group private so no one can search for it...

I just went and checked and it is definitely an Open Group. Does the link not work for you? It should be listed as PCOM Class of 2017.

I'm OOS. CA resident. E-mail time stamped for 7:10am (It's 8:03 now in CA).

Haha, we have applied to a lot of the same schools. 🙂

As for a timeline: All items sent in by 8/23, and full acknowledgement (including extra letters of recommendation) marked as received by September 4th.

Stats:
3.55 cGPA.
3.4 sGPA.
MCAT is between a 23 and a 27.
