Philadelphia COM - Philadelphia (PCOM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

Sorry for a repeat question...10 pages is a lot to try and skim.

I graduated UG 10+ years ago. I am applying next cycle but I wanted to work on my UG committee or deans letter now just in the off chance they take forever to put one together.

In my situation, I simply need a letter from a dean at my UG stating that I graduated and had no disciplinary actions while I was a student? Is there any other content that I need in the letter? Do I call the registrar for this? Do I call the department that I majored in? Sorry for sounding like a dunce, never had to get a deans letter before.

I appreciate your replies!

I've been out of UG for awhile too. My UG has a "Dean of Students", so I sent a letter to him asking for confirmation that I graduated in good standing and had no disciplinary actions. PCOM took his letter without any problem. Hope that helps!
 
Did anyone else get the invite to the PCOM event in Pittsburgh? Curious if it was an area specific thing or not, just sounds like a get together/networking event.

Thanks! Stat wise cgpa 3.5 sgpa 3.6 32 mcat. I submitted my secondary 8/13 and was complete soon after 8/23. I'm also instate fwiw. Best of luck to everybody still waiting hopefully more good news will be coming out soon!

I received an II last week for tomorrow. Very excited, as PCOM is my number-one choice (great school, friendly staff and students), and it just so happens to be my first interview. Just got to the hotel and I am prepping for the big day. I'm very excited. BTW, my app was complete in mid August. Good luck to everyone who is interviewing tomorrow with me at PCOM!

started seeing some of you interviewees at school! congrats! for those of you still waiting - stay patient and focused! you'll hear back soon enough. and if not keep trying!!
 
checking up on stats, i am bit surprised that the class stats aren't higher considering this is one of more well known DO school. But 274 is still a pretty big class.

Wow, plus they said "268 first-time students." That means they must've admitted a several returning students that had to remediate.
 
I just received an email for an II for october 15th!!!! I cant wait!!!
 
maybe they're doing it by states?

Just checked my application here and they have 1 LOR received... is that the same for everyone else? Sent MD, employment, and comittee letters.
 
Hey everyone

I'm a first year at PCOM and would like to open my apt for any males that are interviewing. (I have a jealous gf haha) I live walking distance to school but I drive because I'm lazy hah and could give you a ride.. my building is ~80% PCOM students.

I wasn't very active last year on SDN in terms of posting but I definitely whored the crap out of all the other info everyone else posted and it got me through a lot so I'd like to "give back" to the pre-med community.

I have a pretty crazy story for my path towards medicine and it took me a while to get in (I plan to post the entire story someday in the "underdog" thread) so I definitely understand the stress you guys are going through.

If you ask why the crap am i doing something absolutely unnecessary for random strangers? my answer is: it's what PCOM students do.

PM me if you're interested, have general questions, or want to be convinced that PCOM is where it's at.
 
So frustrated... My computer is going crazy and will not let me save this application. The instruction email indicates that a paper copy of the application may be mailed, if necessary, but I was trying to avoid having to mail it. I did a search and did not come up with any posts from any other applicants having this problem. I want to get the application out since it is already so late. Is it terrible if I have to mail it?

Have you tried selecting [print] and then saving it as a pdf from that menu? Is the problem that it doesn't save your edited copy or that it doesn't save the document they sent you at all?

i just tried to open it after I saved it just to make sure that I saved the correct document and it wont open. I just get a lot of random text. I will keep trying but if you have any suggestions that would be great
 
ok. it worked. i duplicated it, resaved it somewhere else and it seems to be ok. thank you!
 
So... I got in elsewhere, thought I was done for the season and did not finish this app, and then they send an interview invite for 10/3. I am debating if I am going.

Can someone tell me why this school is considered to be so good?
 
For those of you who are interviewing, could tell us if the "Status" column on your decision page has anything written for it? I have dates for when my items were received, but the status column has been blank for some time.
 
Withdrawing... I was told last week that they will not be able to review my app until I send in grades in December. Oh well ...

They are not the only ones damn UF won't reveiw my app until after I complete the program... a bit late there...
