Hey guys, quick question about PCOM's LOR. On the website it states that the LOR needs to be on a letterhead, my question is (I guess this is not just specifically for PCOM but for all schools that need a letterhead) what if my writers didn't write the letter using a letterhead? Has this happened to anyone and what did you guys do in that situation? How lenient is PCOM on this requirement? Thanks.

If your letter is not on letterhead they will not accept, they also prefer to have it signed but will apparently forego that requirement, letterhead is not optional. They apparently put it down as an extra letter.

Does anyone know when PCOM's interview/tour day ends? The invitation I received says it starts at 12, but I'm not sure when the day concludes. I sort of need to know this for travel plans. Also, any tips for the interview itself? Thanks !

It all depends on how many students are interviewing, how many interviewer rooms there are, and in what order you are called. I luckily was first so I interviewed from 2-230 and left right then. But you technically be last. If you have a plane to catch, they will interview you first. Hope that helps!

Is that seriously all the day consists of? An interview? Or is there lunch, and info sessions, a tour, etc?

Oh so sorry, I thought you just meant the interview part hah. No from 12-2 there are introductions, lunch, a tour, and a 5 min financial aid speech. Interviews I believe can go till 4 or 430.

My stats are 3.5/3.4/28 and I have been complete since the end of August. I have over 1200 recorded volunteer hours as a Patient Care Technician and an additional 600 employment hours as a Medical/Surgical Assistant. I've shadowed 1 DO and 4 MDs and submitted three LOR (1 from DO, 2 from MDs). I know my numbers are average for the school. I've received no HOLDS or Waitlist emails from them so what do you guys think about my chances after not hearing a peep from PCOM since early September?
Lol same timeline as you. Not really sure what to do at this point

Swag numbers. I'm sure you're tearing up the cycle
I'm doing pretty well. Already in at a great DO school, but I really wanted to see PCOM and NYCOM so I could decide if they were a better fit for me.

Didn't even apply MD, as I got my MCAT scores way too late and didn't have enough money to spend on both. Curious how it would have gone if I had applied allo as well.

You would have done really well. Definitely chances at top 20 assuming ec's are in line.

But glad you'll be repping DOs well!

fwiw, I'm having nycom silence too. not a ny resident

You'd have multiple acceptances. Admittedly if I were in your position of be considering deferring for a year and applying MD next year.

Yeah, I've been struggling with that a bit. But at the same time, I'm an older student, and every year I wait will make residency more difficult on my body and mind. I figure I'm not going for any super-competitive residencies (I plan on either IM and not specializing, anesthesia, or EM) so DO should be fine. Plus, if past results are any indicator of future success, I should do well in school and hopefully on the boards, which will open my options up a bit.

Congrats on your success so far... do you mind sharing which DO program you are already in/set on if you dont hear back from anywhere else? I could potentially give you the pros and cons of NYCOM, as I interviewed there back in November. However, I am still waiting like many of you for a single word from PCOM.

I am pretty set on UNECOM, as I really love the school and it's close to home. But I have never seen NYCOM or PCOM, and they are both fairly close to home as well, so I'd like to compare the three if at all possible and decide which school fits me the best. I'd love to hear your views on NYCOM though, for sure.

you were complete since late august? that means that you werent late to apply to MD at all?
I didn't get my MCAT score till mid August, and didn't think it would be competitive enough for MD school. I didn't even start an AMCAS application, and my essay was very DO specific, so I would have had to go through the whole process of sending my transcripts to AMCAS, rewriting my essay, and getting verified, likely adding a month and a half or more. I likely wouldn't have had my primary completed until mid-to-late October, then would be filling out secondaries in late October and November, would have my secondaries complete in November or December. But like I said, I'm perfectly happy going to DO school. The only reason I would even consider MD is because I'd like to practice outside the country eventually and it's easier to do with a MD than a DO. I really like UNECOM, a lot, and can't see much that an MD school would offer me that I can't get at UNECOM in relation to my long-term career goals.

ohhh I thought you meant your primary was verified in August. So basically you applied to do before you got your score because you weren't sure if you would be competitive for md and by the time you got your score you thought it would be too late to submit your amcas. I think you have a really good shot at pcom and nycom especially because many people who are like you stat wise get into those schools and then withdraw their acceptances for md schools which opens seats. (have a few friends who just got into both schools that are planning to do that)
Yeah, had no idea I would score a 35 MCAT. Figured I'd land like a 28 at best. I have consistently underestimated my own abilities my entire life, should've known better and just filled out the AMCAS. Ah well.

I applied late (November) and haven't heard anything back yet...does anyone know if the school is still offering interviews or if the class is pretty much full already?

Interviews go through April I believe... Its doubtful that the class is "filled". Most schools accept way more than what their class size is since they know that people will decline offers of admissions else where. Hold tight, I have been complete since September and still have yet to hear anything as well!

Are there any schools that would even allow you to defer? I thought the ability to defer was only reserved for special circumstances, and with the assumption the applicant will not be applying to other schools during that period. Of course, I doubt Mad Jack would have any difficulty getting into an MD regardless.

Anyway, I've gotten nothing but silence from PCOM as well. 3.4<GPA<3.5 with 34 MCAT as OOS.

Accepted! Interviewed this past Monday, Jan 6. Not too sure when committee met considering my interviewers told me straight out that I would not hear a thing for at least two weeks.

Nice, congrats! Do you mind sharing your starts and if youre OOS or IS?

I've got an interview on Jan 29th and I'm real excited for it. Can anyone talk about the day to day life at PCOM for the pre-clinical years? How long is the school day? Is it P/F? Are lectures recorded? Is it a block schedule? That sort of thing. Any info is much appreciate.

Does anyone know if PCOM will be 'providing' new computers to incoming students? My tour guide said that its in discussion but I didn't know if anyone knew of something more. I need a new computer real bad haha!

Does anyone know if there is a facebook group? I am sure this question has already been answered somewhere in this forum but I have yet to find it

Hey all, I recently interviewed at pcom this past Monday and I was so nervous at the start of my interview that I completely forgot the names of my interviewers. I called and was able to get the name of the admissions representative at least, but was unsuccessful in retrieving the names of the student and professor/clinician. Soo that pretty much makes sending thank you notes impossible (or at least 2/3 of it). Does anyone know if this will hurt my chances? I loved pcom and would certainly matriculate there if accepted, so this is kinda a sticky situation for me. Anyway, any help or feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would just write a general email to admissions, the email address is in the folder, thanking them.

like it has been said.... they say they have their decision the moment you walk out the room of the interview... the thank you letter have no effect, but are obviously a nice professional curtsey.

As far as I know I haven't heard anything like that. I was told just to make sure our laptops have certain specs so I assumed they wouldn't be provided.

clever.... elevencents and akgrown

I mean how many months would indicate a silent rejection, Im going on 2.5 months with pcom

They can offer you a II at any time, but at this point I'd be realistic. I've been complete for 4.5 months at PCOM.

Same, I feel many of us are in the same position. If you have not heard, you are still in the running. I dont think they necessarily do silent rejections (although it feels like it). You will be notified - it just takes time. Keep in mind they interview until April. I know first years that have said they were not interviewed until March. This whole thing is a waiting game and a true test of patience... that being said, I feel your pain every day I dont hear a single word from the remaining 10 schools I have not hear from in 4+ months!

Wow, congrats. Have seen quite a few people with 24-26 MCAT scores get a II.

good ECs 3.45, 24, (delaware- pcoms my instate) applied in october. very very very low chance of admission but they usually give interviews to delaware residents.
Congrats! I am just curious, does Delaware have a deal with PCOM or something? Glad to hear that your wait has been just about as long as its been for me... this gives me hope!

Well delaware has no instate medical school allopathic or osteopathic so PCOM likes delaware kids because they know they're going to stay in the area. That's what my advisor at my college (UDEL) told me.

However, I know like 5 delaware kids with really 27-30 plus scores and high gpas that have been accepted so I'm not super hopeful. I think though giving interviews to DE students is a courtesy thing though. I was president of a large student rso and a student advisor of sorts so I know that many students who are interested in DO have been interviewed at pcom over the years but not necessarily accepted. On the other hand most of the pre med population at UD applies to jefferson and the other philly MD schools instead.

I did get into wvsom and am interviewing at lecom in a few weeks!

Does anyone know how long PCOM interviews for? I have been complete since 8/14 and I sent an update letter in December, and I have not heard anything from them since August. I know admissions is always a random crap shoot, but what do you think my chances are of hearing any good news with a 34 MCAT 3.3 cGPA 3.2 sGPA and a 3.88 GPA in my masters?
