Philadelphia COM - Philadelphia (PCOM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

I received an e-mail from them on Friday night at around 11:30 pm giving me portal access. Just goes to show that they are processing these applications continuously. When looking into the portal, it shows that they have received everything except for my rec letters, which are accessible though virtual systems. Hopefully my letters will get sorted by the end of this week and I will be a complete
 
If it has a date next to the letters of rec does it mean you're complete? I find it strange because I only submit two faculty that taught me + 1 MD and 1 DO. Did they count the MD as a faculty letter? Because the DO is listed under "Additional Letters"

I mailed my check on 8/13 or 14 and they haven't cashed it yet. Anyone else in a similar situation?
 
Looks like II's went out second week of September last year. Two more weeks yet 8/

I hope so! This is, in essence, the last DO school I'm holding out for. I'd like to interview and make a comparison to the other schools.

Where else did you interview or will you be interviewing? What are your top choices? I'm curious because I interviewed with you at Nova.

Same. PCOM is my top choice, then LECOM, then CCOM, then...I don't know. I wish PCOM wasn't so slow in the app process. 🙁

I am still waiting for then to process my check... everything else is in and I mailed my check on 8/14. How long did it take them to process your check? I forgot to mail the e-mail with the check but I mailed them a print out of my completed secondary. The admissions officer that I spoke to said that the e-mail was only for tracking purposes so I should be fine. :-/ I really hope it is all going to be fine.

Can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks based on the postal system and bank delays. Don't worry about it.
 
PCOM is my #1 as well, followed closely by LECOM. It's in a great area of Philly and is in close proximity to everything you'll need to be successful as a student.
 
Waiting for the secondary app... behind the 8 ball I know but my primary was just processed due to taking the MCAT in july. PCOM would certainly be my number one choice if I get in!
 
I was verified 08/27/2013 and got secondaries from other school automatically... does PCOM wait a bit and then send out the secondaries?

Yes. Not all schools send their secondaries at the same rate.

No I am Out of State... I do have a DO letter... they don't look at your LORs before they give you an interview invite though... I think I am going to interview there on 9/20... I am signing up today. 🙂
 
PCOM does in fact look at everything before they offer II. My friend goes to the school and says that they are being asked about helping with tours and things. I think he said interviews are going to start after September 23.

I sent an email to admissions asking this and got this answer:

"Interfolio sends letters in one packet - so only one letter will show."

They might ask more local people to interview near that date. When I interviewed (holy crap, 5 years ago) I was a Philadelphia resident. I found out about 2 weeks before the interview. Obviously if I wasn't local that wouldn't have been a possibility.

That sucks. I'm a PA resident of 30 years but currently living in Utah 8/

I don't truly think there is rhyme or reason to how they assign interview dates. I can retroactively look back and be like maybe it was a, b or c that I got it when I did, but in the moment there definitely is no rhyme or reason.

I apologize in advance if I seem over neurotic but... Has it taken anyone else the full 15 days or longer for PCOM to deposit their check? I think it is business day 14 for me. Monday will be day 15. I called them a week ago or so and now I am starting to get worried. Should I recall them and ask them if I should mail them another check? I wish I could just pay by credit card. I mailed my check on 8/16 I think. :-/ I should have just mailed it in as soon as I got the secondary.

I am just worried that it got lost in the mail and my whole application is going to be held up. :-/ Gahh... 🙂 Such is life I suppose....

did you write them a bad check? just kidding lol.

I would call them with your question since it has been a reasonable amount of time that you should double check now. pcom is a great school and tough to get into so earlier the better. it's perfectly understandable why you want to double check.

Yeah I just called them and they said they never received it. I am submitting them another check today. I really hope that this does not delay my application. Everything else has been in for a while now. *Sigh*


Fly check... fly!!! I hope PCOM gets it ASAP! 🙂

I submitted my application a month ago and all my LORs and everything have been in for a while... silly check... I wish we could just pay by credit card... oh well...
 
Anyone notice early on ii's from last years thread were people with 30+ mcats? :/ First ii's went out late september it looks like.
 
Any day now.. The invites to last year's group were sent out 9/14!

They also picked local people for the short notice II's
 
Once my application was verified they re-classified one of my English courses as a science course (so weird) and now I don't meet the minimum english credit requirements for PCOM. Will my application be automatically rejected if it get sent to a school before I can get this problem fixed? Or is that something I only have to worry about once secondaries come around?

You're fine. Pre-reqs just need to be completed before you matriculate.

As far as I know, not yet. Hopefully this week. Last year it was around this time, and they gave regional applicants 1 weeks notice it looks like.
 
how long did it take you guys to receive a complete email?

I am not sure if I received a complete e-mail. I received this though: Acknowledgement: PCOM Supplemental Received - Osteopathic Medicine:

They gave me a username and password in which I could check the status of my supplemental application and I can see that all my documents have been received. 🙂

I never even received that, but I did look in last years thread and saw some people never received that either and still got ii's so who knows.
