Philadelphia COM - Philadelphia (PCOM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am eagerly awaiting a response from PCOM, I just got all of my letters and payment in last week.

Fortunately, I've been told that my current college, Robert Morris University, has an agreement with PCOM. That is, if a student has like a 3.4 GPA and 8/8/8 MCAT (though I was told that a 10 would make a 6 "okay"), they will be guaranteed an interview. I have a 3.9 GPA at RMU and my MCAT was 10/6/9.

Here's to hoping that the representative knew everything involved with the process! :naughty:

+1 Ugh my feels..

+2, literally JUST got the email and my heart started pounding so hard! Just to read it further and be incredibly upset that it was just a Pre-Soma email. Well, I am awake for the rest of the day!

Once you submit your secondary, a couple of days later you'll receive an email containing log in info to check on the status of your material you have submitted to them.
PCOM does not send "complete emails" so that portal is all you'll get until they're ready to send you an invite or rejection.

I would not say a couple of days, I submitted mine fairly early (August 9) and didn't get access to the portal until August 23 at 11 pm. So just give it time

I second this.. I submitted my application the first day possible and didn't get a complete email for ~2 weeks. You have to remember that PCOM receives a TON of applications each year being one of the more popular DO schools.. Needless to say it takes time!

ii this morning for 10/3/13

Hey guys, quick question about the letter stuff.

The site says I submitted my application on August 27th, but it also says it received a letter of recommendation on August 8th, which I believe is when I submitted my AACOMAS application. Furthermore, it also says that it received a committee letter when I sent in three separate letters.

Is anyone else having their stuff show up like this? Is this someone I should call about? >.>

Congratsssssssssssssssssssss! When did you schedule for your interview?

I'm still hoping and anxiously awaiting for my potential invite. I think this school will be the last DO school I visit.

They give you a date with an option to reschedule by calling them, which I might. It seems that schools all want to interview that same week 😛.

Hi. congrats on your interview. When were you complete? thxs

I don't know. They don't send a complete email, only a received and that was at the beginning of the month.

Interviewed here today. Its truly an amazing school with so many opportunities.

We got to look at a spankin' new 12,000 sq ft surgical/ emergency simulation center that is going to provide state of the art practice to students and residents.

The interview was very laid back and conversational. Love it here

Congrats on the interview! Did they give you any idea of when you would get a decision?

If there is any truth to this... there will be a TON of interviewees.

How so? There are not that many students who are Pre-Med graduating RMU this year, probably less than 20.

Even if there are students applying from previous years at RMU, there would probably be no more than 35. If this agreement is held by other schools, how many pre-med students do you think could possible be graduating and planning on PCOM?

I imagine it's probably a fraction of their total application pool.

How do I know if my application is complete? Are they still sending out iIs

I am still waiting on my II... How often do they send them out?

I was wondering if anyone had the following note "no email" under application fee? It's my only method of contact as I'm currently outside the US and PCOM hasn't returned my email asking about it. Also, my application summary shows that everything was received Aug 5th, but no status information has been updated. Does this mean they just haven't made a decision regarding an II? I have fairly good stats- 29 MCAT, 3.5cg, 3.4sg, good LOR (one from DO)

That's just for the admissions staff. Doesn't mean they don't have your email. And yes, there are still many people waiting on II's. So you're not alone.

You probably sent the check without a copy of the email they sent asking you to send the check with a copy of the email so they can track which school you applied to.

Does anybody know how many they interview and accept?

I called today to make sure everything was actually complete, and she was very rude. She said there's no access to how far along they are in reviewing or put on hold or anything. I went back and looked at my complete email, and it said no updates on status. They definitely mean that!

Don't think that is rude - just stating the fact. They must get hundreds of these calls and the email says they will not update the status. The office people don't really know what the committee is doing until they offer an interview. We just have to chill out and stay the course.

Good to hear! I can imagine how frustrating it is to answer calls from neurotic pre-meds all day.. haha

LOL I just messed up my secondary. Thought "PCOM ID" meant to write a username. I had to e-mail them about it. Oh well. Hopefully I won't come off as a *******.

I did the same exact thing! At least I'm not alone. The email I got back was if we can t find your secondary we will contact you. They found it so I would not worry. Still no II so I'll have to wait to see how dumb they think I am lol.

I had the same 'no email' note on my application. I had my bank send my check for me, so there was no way to include the email. Does this affect anything?

I answered this earlier. The no email is simply for administrative purposes and does not mean they have no email on file for you. Simply ignore it.

Applicants... smart enough to score well on hardest pre-professional entrance exam and do synthesis of organic molecules... too stupid to get ID correctly.

Hahaha, you just made my day.

Although, to be fair, I've had some stupid mistakes in my day also. Everyone has a brain fart at some point.

been complete for a month. haven't heard anything. feeling nervous. would love to go to PCOM.

They interview around 650 people and around 280 matriculate.

+1. They also told us they accept ~500. Sounds like good odds to me! :xf:

I was just browsing here because I was debating on whether or not to complete the secondary and came across your post. Just wanted to say I dig that you like Zelda.

Withdrawn. This is a very nice school though, and it's in philly! This was a tough decision for me. Good luck all!

I'd like to hear something from this school. Submitted/mailed my check the first day secondaries were released.
