Philadelphia COM - Philadelphia (PCOM) Discussion Thread 2016-2017

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So, I have all the letters in (2 science faculties and 1 non-science faculty) for PCOM, and it showed that I have all three letters on the summary page, but the Pre-Health Advisory/Committee Letter still hasn't shown as received yet. Any thoughts?

Also, my 2 science faculties letters were not listed as 2 separate documents but instead as "Letter of Rec -- Sci Faculty 1" with both of their last names listed under Note. I wonder if this will have anything to do with it?

Thanks in advance guys!

I would call or e-mail them. One of my letters had to be resubmitted because it wasn't on letterhead, and when it was submitted the "Pre-Health Advisory Letter" row went away.

would have loved to be complete at this school but seems like my lack of a third faculty letter will prevent me from that 🙁, hope they use my donation well

You should have known what the requirement was before giving the donation.

most schools have been pretty lenient on the LOR guidelines, hoped PCOM would have been too, oh well :/

No news is good news but damn, can the schools break the silence. My patient is being tested real hard.

Get used to it. I didn't hear back until Feb last year from PCOM, and if they don't send you an II, they won't contact you until late April when the process is completely over, as do many other schools like UNECOM, Drexel, and Quinnipiac. It is still super early in the cycle.

Awesome! Thanks!

Hey folks,
I got an email a while back saying my secondary was received, however in the portal there is no date in the MCAT column. Does anyone else have this? I'm wondering if I should contact them to make sure they got my MCAT scores...

I would Email them about it if the MCAT Score row is not showing up under Requirements.

Quick Question: in your case, did it say "Resubmit on College Letterhead" under Note?

Yes it did. I had to get my professor to send it to them by email because you can't change it on AACOMAS. Once he resubmitted it, the "committee letter" row disappeared. So you probably aren't complete until you fix it unfortunately.

I emailed them and they responded so fast: "AACOMAS has only reported unofficial scores to PCOM. You must have AAMC release the scores to AACOMAS for PCOM and we will receive them in a future update. We do not have a timeline as to how long this will take to occur. Self reported scores are not considered official."
Whaaaat?

Did you release the MCAT score from AAMC to AACOMAS? If you download your application from AACOMAS, there should be a page that looks like your AAMC MCAT report. Additionally, I think there's a page of text where it shows "Unofficial MCAT:" and "Official MCAT:"

OK. Thanks again!

Thanks so much. So I released my MCAT scores to AACOMAS , and now two days later I see that they have been officially attached to my AACOMAS application (yay!). My next question is, does anyone know how long it will now take for PCOM to receive these scores from AACOMAS? I asked the school directly and this was their response: "You must have AAMC release the scores to AACOMAS for PCOM and we will receive them in a future update. We do not have a timeline as to how long this will take to occur. Self reported scores are not considered official." What is this 'future update'?:eyebrow:

They only get info from AACOMAS once a week and I think it might depend on AACOMAS putting it in their file to upload to your application. It might take a bit for it to be in your application but they will get it. They don't know because it is not in their control. If you release it it won't be official and won't show in your application.

Anyone know if there is a set time frame PCOM makes a decision for an II? Like I know DMU says they'll let you know 60 days after your application is complete.

II just now!!!! For 10/6 which is extremely soon. This is my first one of the cycle so does anyone have any tips?
Stats for those who will ask: 499 MCAT, 3.8 GPA (3.6 Science, 4.0 non), extensive medical experience in many specialties and alot of ECs.

Are you IS or OOS?

Question - what do those that are complete see for their letters on their application summary? My school doesn't have a pre-health committee but I see

Pre-Health Advsr/Committee Aug 18, 2016 Univ of Michigan

From the instructions this leads me to believe my 3 letters from my university have been received and are acceptable?

and then

Additional Information Received
Document Received Note Status
Letter of Recommendation - DO Aug 18, 2016 DO name

My DO letter is under additional information. Is that right too that it's just the non-faculty letter there?
