Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship 2020/2021 cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know this has been kind of addressed already previously. IM trained resident.

Interviewed at a PCCM care program I really liked and is my number 1, CCM offer that I am not a fan of. Hate to turn down a for sure thing. Is there any utility in emailing my top PCCM program to let them know?

I think the concern is that the PCCM can only say they’ll rank you highly (maybe), but no way to know for sure until match day.
Unfortunately, it really comes down to if you want the for sure thing or hope for the match. Seems like emails the programs really only matters for another CCM program who can offer you a spot if they wanted to.
Difficult position to be in, to be sure.

Has anyone heard from UC Davis? Did they send out all their invites already?

Hey guys I was wondering how long is the wait before you get the prematch offer for CCM?

Accepted a CCM spot today, so pending signing an offer will be dropping 8 PCCM interviews. Keep your heads up folks!
Hey how long did you have to wait before they offered you the position for CCM?

Exactly what I was thinking. God I hate this whole process.

We only get one shot at training. I wouldn’t settle for a program that doesn’t offer what I’m looking for just to have a position. However, if you can see yourself receiving the training that will allow you to reach your career goals, I’d go for it. How much time are they giving you to decide?

Is UPMC still interviewing for CCM? Anyone received the offer yet?
Interviews are done, they only interviewed for 2 weeks. I had 2 CCM offers, let them know 1 week after our interview to see where I was at in their ranking, PD got back to me and said I was around the middle pack and 1/2 of the spots were already taken, meaning unlikely that I would get an offer (no one in their right mind says no to Pitt lol). So probably all offered and given away by now.

where did you accept!?

I received a pretty nice rejection from them. So may be you not getting rejection is a good sign
How long ago did they send out invites? I have not heard from them either but figured they just didn’t send out rejections since it wasn’t checked off on the list.
Anyone know if Las Vegas has sent out rejections?

Any idea how long does U Pitt take to respond after the interview. Are spots still open?

I am not sure but I think It was more like 3 weeks ago. BUt I also emailed the PD lol so he sent out the rejection so I wont bug him again

Thoughts on the wording of emailing my #1 PCCM program to see if I would be ranked high without breaking match rules? Have a CCM offer that is not my favorite.

I was thinking of more or less just saying something along the lines of “ I really enjoyed your program, it’s close to family, I have this other offer for CCM. Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of matching with your program?”

I have till end of the week to accept decline a CCM spot.

Dr. Moore answers back pretty quick, within hours, more so if you have an offer and tell him that. By Thursday, he replied half of the spots were already filled.

UNLV started offering on Wednesday, they give only 24h to get back with an answer.

Anyone get an interview invite from HCA Healthcare/USF Morsani College of Medicine GME: Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point Program in Hudson, Florida ?

I got an invite for an interview and within a few hours all of their interview slots were filled. I called the GME office and they basically said they couldn't guarantee me a spot to interview.

I find this extremely unprofessional, no? Does this go on elsewhere?

Wait... so they sent out more interview offers than they had slots for? With no plans to expand the number of interview slots as they filled up?
That's... unusual.

Yes, exactly ... I'm very thankful to have a comfortable amount of interviews elsewhere, but I'm just wondering if I should/could be doing more to advocate for myself here... I think this move alone is a pretty obvious indicator that this program is not the most organized.

Oops - meant for PCCM. I’m really hoping to move back to the west coast but it appears I’m just waitlisted for those ones.

Is it worse to send a late thank you email than to not send one at all?

Are we still sending obligatory "thank you" emails? I find it cheesy and trite by maybe that's the just me. I only send it to a program that I truly really liked and want to go to as my first choice, but in addition to thank you I add some more substance explaining the fit (without droning on too much). Otherwise for other programs, its honestly part of the job to interview applicants. Don't get me wrong, when I was a 4th yr med student applying for residency, I did because "I was told to do so" but at this level there is more maturity in the process and less of a "take me take me" and more of a mutual discussion to see if there's a good fit. But basically if there's nothing of substance to ask the individual (like an honest question or something) I'm not sure the point of the thank you other than filling inboxes. But to each their own I suppose. Gluck friends 🙂

Im sorry this happened to you. I agree this is very careless and unprofessional. Especially since we all get a little excited when we get an interview invite and then to find out that actually is a farce is not cool. Sending some good vibes your way. Hope they open up a spot for you to interview or else consider it that something better is coming your way 🙂

I sent thank you emails to places that are in my top 5, saying that I will be ranking them very highly. I also sent individual emails to interviewers if we had some particular connection, even if I am not trying to match there - I mean, they did take the time to read my application and speak to me, so thanking them for that doesn't seem unreasonable to me. With that said, I don't have any illusions that thank you emails are going to move me up or down their rank list.

Same thing happened to me at Lankenau. I’m pretty sure I responded within an hour and it was full.

So those PCCM programs who never sent invites on the spreadsheet. Do you guys still think they will send eventually or is it too late lol

Hey guys I was wondering how long is the wait before you get the prematch offer for CCM?

I am not sure how helpful this is. My husband applied for CCM - received one invite. The interview spanned 3 separate days and on the third day he was offered a prematch a few hours after the interview ended. Was given a week to accept the offer.

At this point is there any point in contacting your top programs you haven’t heard from yet to express continued interest? Without sounding desperate/needy/annoying? Or would that just push them to reject you?

Anywhere we can post anonymous impressions of programs? Would be interested to hear about other people's experiences, especially given the unusual nature of this year's interview season.

I tried it and all I got is reject back lol. So I think its worth a try> some programs told me I am on the waitlist but people are not cancelling interview this year since they don't have travel so I don't know if being on the wait list is even good

There is a notes section on the excel sheet, we could use that.
