Interview at Geisinger Danville PCCM given on 8/13/2020
 
I'm concerned about the lack of interviews so far, would it be dumb to apply to more programs at this point? I feel most programs are just going to send one batch of interviews given the glut of applicants this year with the compressed timeline so its likely a waste of money.
 
Hey there, I’m a newbie! Looking for pccm position. IMG but US Citizen! So far only one IV and that’s it. It’s like things are not moving at all!!

can someone explain how this list works? What does it mean by all this interviews! Is only one person getting or summation from everyone. Please explain

When you get an interview, you put the name of the program and the date that you received the interview under the category that describes your medical school/visa status. If a program is already under your category, then just add the date next to the program name. The list is a summation of interviews. If you receive a rejection notification, you put the name of the program and the date you received the rejection under the rejection category.

I think that programs are still looking through applications. Least that is my presumption. If we don't hear anything by the first week of September then I would start being more concerned.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I wanted to commiserate on the lack of interviews. Definitely feels like a brutal season. Maybe some of the programs will send out additional interviews in a bit.

I hear that. I applied to 35 programs, only have 2 interviews so far. Not sure if I should send out more applications at this point or not.

I applied to about that number and have 2 interviews as well. I have gotten one rejection which is already listed and a couple other emails.

Just so you guys know, when I received a letter from UC-Davis they said they had a greater than 50% increase in applications and due to providers being on service they were hopeful to get out invites the week of 8/31. I imagine other places are in the same boat, and I know my home program has yet to send invites so I anticipate hearing things over the next two weeks. Least some rejections haha.

Wow, not until 8/31? Holy cow, that's not leaving a whole lot of time with the accelerated schedule is it? I was planning on emailing programs I was particularly interested in at the end of this week, but now I'm guessing maybe I should wait until later.

25 programs, 2 rejections. Home program hasnt sent out invites yet, so im hopeful still. Sadly I suspect a lot of top tier candidates are hoarding interview spots, and as things open up on this rolling basis another wave of invites will go out

Yeah, I anticipate the same thing. However, given the limited number of days a lot of programs are interviewing I wonder if there will be spots opening up later on. Either way I except some more invited to come. I guess I won't be too concerned until I hear from my home program. If I get a message from them and not much else then who knows.

And I'm probably going to wait until the week of 9/8 to email programs, especially if some aren't gonna send out invites until next week. I guess gotta see what happens.

Talked to my friend who is a current 2nd yr fellow and he said he was hearing back from programs from mid Aug to early Sept when he applied. I think it's probably too early to worry but that doesn't stop me from worrying...
 
I was just going over last year's NRMP match, how many people would apply this year any clue? 500-800 people?
Does anyone know how to know which program did not fill up when the match results cone out?
Do we use websites such as fellowship scramble?

Possibly. (I hope this doesn't come off sounding needlessly harsh because it isn't meant that way).
If you aren't getting interviews at places yet, then either there is something about your app that is being screened by places in their initial look, or it's not stacking up against other apps. If you send to other places (all of which are currently experiencing higher app volumes) do you think your application would rank differently at those places?

I would imagine that a lot of places aren't sending rejections until they have started into their interview process and gotten at least one person. Nobody knows how far down their list they're going to go this year and don't want to cut their list short.

Ugh. Yes. COVID has made everyone's clinical schedule rough as well.
I've been working 18-20 shifts a month since March, and doing all of the admin/academic stuff as well. And work-from-home policies from GME for our coordinators makes things go a little slower.

It depends. As interviews start and rolling offers start going out, if they are getting returned with "thanks for the offer but no thanks" then more interview spots would start opening up. If on the other hand applicants quickly sign their fellowship offers, then places would be more inclined to hold with the number they have. It's a constant dance of trying to optimize the number of people interviewed and the dates the interviews occur, and not wasting people's time.

No I think candor like this is refreshing. Your logic makes sense, I think I was given some not so sound advice about my relative competitiveness it seems and now the ship has sailed. Would program directors be open to giving feedback on applications? Im curious if theres something in one of my letters thats causing issues.

I would like to respectfully disagree to some extent because I think this is unnecessarily discouraging to some. Based on the number of programs reported here to have sent interviews-and I count ~40 which is around 20% of programs, most programs have not sent invitations. It’s still relatively early. Programs have more applications then ever to review. I’d give it until mid-September where if interview numbers are still light then it may be cause for concern. There’s literally 1 or 2 NY programs on this last out of the 20+ in that state.
 
i made a small mistake on my application. Not sure if its significant. I forgot to mention my current 2 years experience as a hospitalist after my residency. I have mentioned about this position in the PS and also have an LOR from my boss here that reflects that i am working as hospitalist. Would that be a big of an issue if i missed that in the application? After submitting the application(and still befor applying to programs) i called eras but they said it can't be undone since the application is already certified
Any thoughts?
