Purdue c/o 2018 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was able to book nonstop flights to IND STILL cheaper than kansas! But any who…I don't really care for the limo/shuttle service that they suggested and I don't feel like renting a car. Does anybody have any other options they can suggest?

Where are you staying when's your interview?

Who is going to be interviewing on the 24th? I signed up for the morning session and will be around for the banquet.

Still have to book my travel arrangements.
I will be there on the 24th. I have an evening session I believe.

I'm at Purdue right now and really, I know the shuttle sounds kinda sketchy but it really is the easiest thing. If you're going to stay at purdue's hotel the shuttle will pick you up and drop you off right there. Students use the Lafayette Limo shuttle every day so it wouldn't be like a greyhound bus situation and it's not a limo, just a shuttle bus. The only thing that I've heard of being a problem is if your flight in is delayed and you get there too late to catch the last shuttle. Then youre kinda sol.

I only saw listings for the layfaytte limo/shuttle thing but the hours are kind of crappy for when my flights are. There's only a half hour between arriving/when the limo leaves and I don't want to be stranded for two hours at the airport =/

Mine is on the 31st as well I picked pm session because my sister is about 2 hours from Purdue so I'll stay with her while I'm there.
I'll be at the pm session as well! see ya guys there! =)

I still haven't heard anything from Purdue, good or bad. 😵 The last email I got was months ago saying they received all my application materials. I'm not sure if I should be be concerned yet. I definitely don't want to call and bug anyone. Anyone else in the same boat?

I'm renting a car from Indianapolis if anyone needs a ride from the airport. I arrive on the 30th at 5 pm and leave on the 1st at 11 am (so I'll head to the airport around 8:30 am). I'm staying at the Clarion Inn, but I'm happy to drop off wherever (within West Lafayette obviously).

My interview is the 31st am, so I'll be headed over from the hotel bright and early. I'm also happy to give rides to the university if needed. Though probably only from the hotels right in that area.

Admissions is great and always willing to answer questions. They are pretty quick returning emails. Don't be afraid to follow up with them!

I'm interviewing on the 24th for the PM Session and will be there for the banquet as well. Flying in on Jan. 23rd evening.

I'm interviewing on the 31st in the AM session and will be there for the banquet! I am a FL girl so I'm not 100% sure if I should wear boots or ballet flats to the interview. Will we be outside a lot for the tour, etc? Should I just change into my flats when I get there? And is everyone planning to wear their interview clothes to the banquet? Would a nice sweater set be acceptable for the banquet? Looking forward to meeting everyone!!!

The last time I interviewed we did not go outside. I wore my boots and then swapped out to my dress shoes when I got inside. There was several different outfits at the banquet, I am going to change in business casual for the banquet.

[At the interview, I mean]

Switched my interview time to the am session on the 31st. I have to catch a flight back to Florida right after to be at UF on the 1st at 8:00am

I'm interviewing on the 24th during the morning session too! It's coming up quickly... too quickly, and I am already getting nervous. :help:

I have just realized how much I need to do before I go! That is distracting me from thinking about the interview. I interviewed there 2 years ago and it was great, they try to make you feel very comfortable and tell you not to be nervous (even though it is not really possible). They banquet is great because you sit with other faculty and get to know the school better.

We are going to rock it :highfive:

Thanks, that makes me feel so much better! I have been reading interview horror stories for the last week, about the interviewers grilling the applicants and trying to make them breakdown and cry.
I like your little high-fiving smiley guys! :highfive: Returning the high five!

o.o' where are such stories located?

Don't worry, the stories weren't Purdue related. I just googled "vet school interview questions", or something similar, and it lead me to different blogs and forums with people describing their interview experience. Here is an example:
http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/s...udent-any-tips-on-interviewing-for-vet-school
My favorite part is the story where the applicant had 2 nice interviewers but the third kept asking NFL questions to try to make her lose her composure. It's about halfway down the page.

Anyone hear about the shooting at Purdue today? Apparently one man was killed at the electrical engineering building in what appears to be a targeted shooting, and the suspect is in custody. I know they canceled classes for today and tomorrow. My interview isn't until the 31st, but just a heads up to those of you interviewing this week...I don't think it will affect you, but just in case I wanted to post and make sure everyone knows. Praying for the victim's family and everyone at Purdue!

Just canceled my interview. 🙁 I got into my in-state school though 🙂. Good luck to whoever takes my spot! 🙂

Hope all SDNers, and their loved ones, from Purdue are ok!

Hey all interviewees. Thought I'd share the Campus Inn isn't that bad if you're on a budget. $50 a night with AAA. If you ask the driver of Lafayette Limo at the airport they drop you off at the motel. Small basic rooms conveniently located close to purdue union memorial.

My interview was really relaxed and very friendly. But I still totally blew it on one question.😱 Embarrassing! Really long day too.

It is a pretty long day, especially if you have a morning interview. I was glad to get my done and over with 🙂 I feel in love with Purdue all over again today... even with the miserably cold weather/wind 🙂

Best wishes to you Dlisted... I have my fingers crossed for us! 🙂

Will I be able to leave around 2 if I have an AM interview?

I hope everyone's interviews went well today! Any advice/wisdom for those of us interviewing next week? 🙂 Did the SDN interview feedback seem to help? Ahh I'm so excited to go there next week!!

I LOVED Purdue! I didn't really know what to expect, but it was great! All of the students and doctors were really friendly, and even those not participating in admissions would smile and say "good luck" in the halls. The students think of each other as family, which is awesome. The interview itself wasn't too bad. Both of the interviewers were really nice and tried to take some of the pressure off. The questions were tough, and like dlisted I embarrassed myself at times, but otherwise I survived. (except only getting 2 hours of sleep the night before... my plane was mega delayed and I got to the hotel at 2am! :yuck:)

So I'm guessing the questions aren't based off of your application? Are they ethical or what?

So I'm guessing the questions aren't based off of your application? Are they ethical or what?

From what I've heard, everyone's was a bit different. Some people said they talked a lot about their experiences, but mine was a lot of "situation/ tell me about a time when you..." questions and a few ethical. For me, they didn't ask anything off my application, which I thought was strange. The questions were aimed at personality traits, but I used examples from experiences listed on my application to support my answers.

Long story short, be prepared for anything! Good luck, don't stress out, smile and have fun!

I second that. Be prepared for a little of everything. I didn't have any behavioral type questions tell me about a time when... But those are what I was expecting and tried to prepare for most.

It really it is a crap shoot. I started off talking about my background and then went from there. There were some "What would you do if..." questions.

So excited to interview here next week! Visited the campus a couple years ago while in town for a convention and I really enjoyed it!

Hello,
I had my interview last Friday. I've been through a lot of interviews professionally both as the interviewer and interviewee. There were a few things that happened in my interview that I thought were unusual and I'm not sure how to interpret it.
I've never had a professional school interview. I know how scared I was so if its any help here's my thoughts for those going in:
I had 2 people (some had 3). One had read your application, one did not. They will tell you who read the app and who didn't. (That was nice of them)
My interview was really behavior based. Tell us about you, what are your goals, how do you handle stress, tell us about diversity. Typical stuff you will get in any job interview. I expected alot more technical questions but I didn't get them. They were all very general.
It seems to me they are looking for people who are practical, who would fit in with the rest of the student body, and know what they are in for.
So if I did it over, I wouldn't kill myself looking up procedures and definitions. I would have a good intro to myself, a clear idea of what my career goals are, a few examples of working with people, a few demonstrating my animal experience. I didn't get one but most I talked to got an ethical question. Remember the answer doesn't matter its that you pick a stance and stick with it.

The current students were eager to ask who was interviewing you and give you a little background. It's always good to know your audience, although it didn't help me much. I was interviewed by 2 small animal vets and babbled only about horses since I always default to the subjects I know best when I'm nervous. I hope I didn't bore them to tears.

So I'm going to say what everyone else says: Overall its not that bad. Be honest, be yourself. No worries, you've got this.

Good luck to all!

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knows about getting IS tuition if your spouse becomes a resident or is working full time in Indiana ??

I believe that you have to work full time for 12months straight before they consider you a resident ("you" not being you personally... But a general you). I would email the financial aid office to ask them 🙂

I just had my interview this past weekend and it was a wonderful experience! My interviewers were very invested in making me comfortable and just having a conversation with me. The only questions they really asked were about working in groups and convenience euthanasia (which has come up in all four of my interviews, be prepared!). I would just say don't worry too much (easier said than done unfortunately), it will be a lot more enjoyable if you just have a conversation with them and show them that you are a normal person 😉

Good luck to everyone who interviewed last weekend and those who have interviews this week! I have my interview this Friday, but does anyone remember if they said how many OOS applicants actually get interviews out of the total who apply? I'm just curious since the total class size is pretty small.

They said there was just under 300 interviewees total, but didn't go into specifics.
