We are all smack in the middle of formulating our rank lists and yet I see almost no activity on these forums compared to the last few years! Come on guys, we all can be a useful resource to each other. So in no particular order..

Univ. of Minnesota
UMDNJ-Robert Wood
Dartmouth
Univ. of Utah
Ohio State
UMass
Univ. of Arizona
Lahey Clinic

Any thoughts on these programs? Post away.

I interviewed at U of MN and The OHSU...of those two I liked U of MN better pretty much because Minneapolis is cool. I also liked the fact that U of MN is actually ranked in a lot of specialties (if that's important to you) on U.S. News and World Report. Also, there is no VA affiliated with The OHSU, which is a patient population I would like to feel comfortable treating. The OHSU is very Heme-Onc heavy as I gathered from my interview day and they take their own which is good. So does UMN (a lot of Cards and GI people stay on for fellowships). In summary, I feel like OHSU has more of a "name" for Heme-Onc but UMN is regarded as a solid program all around. Go with your gut! By the way, have you gotten any correspondence from either of these two programs?

Thanks for the reply. I've heard from OSU after I sent them an "i'm interested" email. Didn't hear a word from Minn. Not sure what to make of it.

In no order. Any thoughts...

U Chicago
Wash U
Vandy
Duke
Northwestern
Pitt
BI

Thinking about doing cards.
And also... any thoughts on Northwestern vs. U Chicago?
Thanks.

I would pick:
1. U Chicago: This program has it all
2. Duke: Very strong and focused on improvements
3. Wash U
4. Vandy
5. Northwestern
6. Pitt

Is BI BID or BI in Manhatten?

BID, sorry. What about U Chicago's location/hospital system/lack of EMR? Seems like Northwestern would be a better place to be. Except for fellowships...

The big decision between UC and NW is what type of patients you want to serve. NW will be a more "cush" program whereas south Chicago is going to have much poorer patient population. Other contrasts would be Stanford v UCSF, Cornell v Columbia. Then there are some programs (Duke for example) that serve the entire gamut of socioeconomic patients since they are the main game in town.

If you mean OHSU = Oregon Health and Science University in portland, then the bolded information is not accurate. They do have a VA right next to the university hospital.

If you mean Ohio State University, then I am not aware of their affiliation with VA.

AFAI understand, OHSU is Oregon Health and Science University

The OHSU is The Ohio State University. That's how they actually refer to themselves, with the "The" in front of their name. I didn't apply to Oregon so I take your word for the presence of a neighboring VA. But as for The OHSU, there is no VA system (I specifically asked to see their VA and they said there wasn't one affiliated). And as for Heme-Onc, I don't know how well known Oregon is. I know The OHSU has quite a name for itself in that area.

You've ranked BI above 5 programs all of which are universally considered to be superior to it and 1 program which is probably equal if not superior to it. Interesting.

:laugh::laugh:

Geee guys, how will I find a cards spot . . . 🙄

Rank where YOU liked best with a list like that

It's time to lay off BI. That ain't constructive. And it's probably not true.

I think you've got it right. I only wonder whether you'd want to put Wash U second. They have a great match; st. louis > durham ; barnes is awesome; your residents at Wash U didn't scramble in

And it's time to lay off Duke for their match disaster last year. I'm not even at Duke for residency, nor did I go there for medical school, but it happens and they've made efforts to correct for it (such as interviewing more folks, ranking all the folks they interview and making changes to their schedule that, if it works out, are going to result in them having probably the most benign intern year of the top programs). Also, while WashU is fantastic and they were my #2 choice last year, but I certainly wouldn't argue that St. Louis is better than any city except maybe Baltimore. If someone felt a better fit with one or the other, go with that, but I don't think by any objective criteria WashU must be ranked higher than Duke.

As for BID, I don't mean to "bash" it. I think it's a very good program with strengths of its own, and certain to each his own - last year, I ranked 3 programs above a program "universally considered to be superior." A friend of a friend is at BI right now and ranked it above the other 2 Harvard programs and isn't regretting it. I just thought it was strange to put BID at #1 without any explanation. Then again, any rank lists without explanation strike me as strange...

The Ohio State University is called OSU when abbreviated. OHSU is Oregon.
