I have been fortunate enough to receive multiple acceptances and have whittled it down most likely to Rochester and Einstein.

Some key considerations
  • Attended Rochester for undergrad so familiar with program
  • Have lived in NYC and would prefer NYC (although Einstein is the Bronx) to Rochester as a city
  • Expecting similar financial situations
  • Rochester has no recorded lectures which I am not crazy about

Any considerations or ideas would be helpful

Can you see yourself there for another four years?

The Bx10 bus takes 25-40 min to get to Midtown from Einstein... so not too bad.

How did you feel during the interview days? Both are great schools, so I can see your dilemma. What are some of your interests going in? Consider the patient demographics at both school's hospitals. Maybe ask current students who are in rotations (if you can) about their experiences.

I can see myself there although I would give a slight edge to being in a bigger city having seen both.

I liked both interview days. I got a better feel from Rochester's curriculum and facilities although didn't get to see Einstein's hospitals. Einstein's student body seemed more laid back so I could really see myself at either place. I want to practice urban medicine going forward but think either place could let me do that well. I am also interested in research but both schools seem to do well there as well.

I don't know about Rochester, but a big draw for me with Einstein is the free fifth year for research/M.S. and the alternate pathway to MD/Ph.D, plus the proximity to so many of the conferences and ideas I'm interested in studying. NYC is generally great for that, plus networking with great people across all the institutions here. Einstein also has that nice little $2500 stipend for travel between MS1 and MS2 (probably not that important), and some really fun electives in MS4 (Wilderness Med?)

The public spaces for students at Einstein are pretty weak, tho, and NYC living in general is not easy, what with having to make a bigger effort for laundry, groceries, etc. Not to mention the hassle of getting to the clinical sites.
