Congrats on your acceptance! The UCLA class is the best deal I’ve seen but get in early. If you wait and have to take the SJSU course, it’s at least double the price and much more challenging.

Has anyone heard back yet who applied in November? (Sorry for being redundant on the thread! Waiting to hear back with much anticipation!!)
I did the cadaver lab at Stanford last year. Met a couple of current classmates then (one had already been accepted and the other received an acceptance later). The Stanford labs are amazing! The doctor who leads it is very smart, nice, and funny. I enjoyed it a lot. It barely had that embalming smell and was citrus-scented at times haha!

I was wondering the same thing. I want something physical to confirm I’m not dreaming lol. I sent some questions to the grad assistant too (about start date, deposit etc) and haven’t heard back.
I have not received an official letter but I got a conditional acceptance over email and another one in the mail. The one in the mail listed the prereqs I still need, gave more info on the international experience requirements, stated a start date, and was signed by the OT department chair Dr. Winifred Schultz-Krohn.

On there website it says, "Needs to have a virtual or human cadaver lab associated with the course. If your human anatomy course did not have a lab or a lab with a human cadaver associated with it, consider locating a lab in your area and taking just the 1-unit lab. Stanford University offers a individualized cadaver tutorial that is open to you. Contact their Clinical Anatomy department for more information. You must provide proof of completion of at least 6 hours of a human cadaver lab. You can supply the course catalog description, certificate of completion, or letter from the professor which must include the hours and content."
Any advice on where I could take this class and fulfill this requirement? I live in Los Angeles and if I could find one nearby that would be great.

I just took mine at a community college! You have to be careful and make sure that they have a human cadaver because some of them don’t, but it usually says it on the website.
I see. There is a human prosection class, where you deal with a body part. Is that suffice? If not I'm trying to find a virtual one but is having a hard time. 🙁
Hi! I just signed up for the cadaver lab for April and I was wondering what the set up is like? Like was it lectures, quizzes, etc? I know it's only a 6 hr certification type of thing so I'm wondering how it'll be squeezed into that small time frame.
Just a really short intro and then down to the lab! The "lectures" are just the doc pointing out the anatomical parts and the students moving stuff around. The "quizzes" are identifying what the anatomical parts, some were a list of the parts and putting flags into the cadavers. Some were flags already in the cadavers and then writing down the answers. Very low key. No pressure. No score. P/NP. Only way to NP is to not show up one of the days lol

Hi everyone!
I've been meaning to post that I received a conditional acceptance email from Dr. Gigi Smith last Friday night! I mailed my full application to the department on 10/16 and officially completed GAPE on 10/23. I hope this provides a bit of info and hope for those who are still waiting to hear back! 🙂 Dr. Smith mentioned in the email that I would be receiving an official letter of conditional acceptance in the mail soon, so the physical copy is coming for sure (probably snail mail as MrTL mentioned). Wishing the best to everyone who is still waiting!

Congrats!! I have been following this thread and am still waiting to hear a response. I sent the department an email about a week ago inquiring about a waitlist and the graduate assistant emailed me back saying my application is still being reviewed. Hoping this is good news! I know it can be as late as April or even May to hear back so I am hoping for the best.

The email asks us to let them know ASAP if you aren’t planning to attend, so I am guessing spots will continue to open up as folks receive other offers and make decisions. I understand that they send out acceptances through the end of April.
Also, I applied with VERY few OT clinical hours. I have a substantial amount of very relevant work / volunteer / life experience, but only applied with 28 completed OT hours. So FYI it is possible to get in with very few, though I am under the strong impression that they put a lot more weight on people’s time with OTs than grades/scores/other experience. Sharing this in case it’s useful to anyone who might be thinking about applying next year and wondering!

28 hours inpatient under OTs
Currently doing more hours at a Hand Therapy clinic but haven't finished my hours so haven't submitted anything
Major weak points on my application: 2 withdrawals on my transcript, only 28 OT hours, applied late
Good luck to all!!! Learn from me: apply early, they seem to value OT experience above all so prioritize hours, getting observations in outpatient is 1000 times easier than inpatient (I wasted a lot of time trying to get into diff hospital settings and the bureaucracy makes it super hard. Plus, very long wait lists to get observations anywhere so start early and submit cover letters and resumes, even if just shadowing as a volunteer for 4 weeks.)

About the UCLAx NA course, do you know if it's only offered in April...I know its starting now but I'm planning on taking it later in the year or next years time. I didn't find any more info on its course schedule.
I'm pretty sure the UCLAx NA course is offered in the Fall as well which is when I plan to take. Give them a call as it may even be offered over the summer.

Question for newly admitted students, do you know when we’ll receive financial aid information? I haven’t received my acceptance letter yet, only the email last month, so maybe it’s included with that? Thanks for any info!
Besides FAFSA, most scholarships are available after your first semester at SJSU. If there is an offshoot of financial aid besides those scholarships, it may just be student loans of different variations. I just checked back to some emails from a year ago, so there may be differences. Hope this helps!

Hi guys, don't lose hope! My conditional acceptance came in last Friday (4/19), and I heard absolutely nothing before that! MySJSU account still hasn't updated to conditional acceptance, so I'm still a bit anxious that this is all in my dream LOL. For all those who are curious, I just got an email from the OT program with invitation to the FB group. The email has about 78 recipients, but I'm not sure if everyone will be attending? Best of luck to y'all!
Don't put too much thought into the conditional acceptance thing on MySJSU. As long as you get the email from Dr. Gigi and then the subsequent snail mail from the OT department and SJSU GAPE, I think that covers it. I'm in the FB group for your class btw. Add me if you find me! 😀
They just uploaded FAFSA information last week (maybe Thursday) to mySJSU. If you click view financial aid, it should be available!

Follow up question, re financial aid. How does SJSU decide on how much grant funding to award? Is it based on income / resources? Or other factors? Just wondering how they arrived at my award amount 🙂 thanks all!

Good question. I have no idea lol I'm assuming they have some sort of algorithm to determine financial distribution or have people working on it case-by-case.
If I run into her this week, I'll ask in person for you. If it's worrying you at all... I wouldn't. It's a class specifically made for incoming SJSU MSOT students and everyone intending to take it at SJSU will get an add code... eventually!
