Although, I can't be more blessed to have to decide between these three schools. It is so tough, and to be honest, I don't really know what I really should put more emphasis on!

Just some background. I am born and raised in CA and went to undergrad there. Yale and HMS are enticing because it would be a change of scenery.

I am interested in business and health policy and thinking of doing an MBA or MPH, which I believe all three schools can provide the opportunity for that.

Not sure what specialty I am interested in yet, so can't base my decision off that.

I would greatly appreciate anyone and everyone's insight.

I vote HMS; if you are interested in business or political-type things, name counts, and HMS has the best name.

Why is it always people w/post counts <10 comparing top 5 schools 😕

I've always wondered this as well. Also, it seems like the first person to get accepted in October in every school specific thread is post count 1. I can think of three reasons:

1. They don't waste their time on SDN so they can do better IRL.
2. They are trying to remain anonymous. (The most likely.)
3. Gunner/Lurker to the MAX. Only contribution is to SDN is to say where they got in.

OP - I would gut reaction go to Harvard. It would change your scenery and it will be solid rep if you ever decided to go high up into health policy. That being said, if you can get one for a significant amount cheaper than the other two than I would go with that one. No top ten school is factually better than any other in my opinion.

First of all, this thread is lol.

Next, is obvious that "CalOso" went to Berkeley. It sounds like he/she wants to get out of the Bay Area, which argues against Stanford. Yale is still in consideration presumably for the flexible Yale system, which would facilitate dual degrees. That's all well and good, but getting dual degrees at HMS is not difficult either (btw, HMS HST or NP?).

Both Harvard and Yale have a lot of Cali transplants, and both have good name recognition back West, with a slight edge to Harvard in that regard. Both match lists are amazing, and Yale has a de facto home hospital advantage at Harvard (20% of last year's match list went to Harvard-affiliated hospitals, even more than the ~16% that went to Yale-New Haven hospital). One advantage at Harvard is that you do your clinical year in one prestigious hospital (say, BWH), and then your sub-internship at another (say, MGH), then elective rotations at BIDMC, which lets you develop contacts during home rotations at three tip-top hospitals. Of course, you could always do away rotations anywhere you want, but home rotations are preferable.

Fewer distractions in New Haven but only 1.5 h from NYC. Smaller class size at Yale (100 students); Harvard has a larger overall class size (~160 NP and ~40 HST).

Edit: You can do the HMS rotations at any one of the big three hospitals you want, but subinternship has to be at a different location than your clinical rotations. Electives can be anywhere.

Thanks guys!

In my defense, you can see I actually just joined in Feb 2012. I didn't know much about the Student/Doctor Network until I started talking to people during interviews. =)

eHombre, yes I did go to Berkeley! Go bears! And it's HMS NP only.

Thanks again for all the insight!

I don't understand the Stanford votes (other than pro-Stanfordians wanting their school to get some numbers 🙄); OP said he/she is enticed by the East coast and wants to try something new.

It's between Harvard and Yale, and both will allow matching back to Cali if desired. The former has a strong MPH program on-site, and the unmatched prestige (important in business and policy), while the latter will allow for more flexibility/time necessary for an MBA. A lot of Yale students also take a year off to get their MPH at either Harvard or Hopkins.

Another vote for HMS - Harvard's public health program >> Yale >>> Stanford. In fact, Stanford doesn't have an MPH program. You have to go back to Cal for that.

Those votes could've come from people on Harvard's waitlist :meanie:

Dude, not to be rude or anything but this is the douchiest post I've ever seen. You were smart enough to get in the 3 best med schools in the country, I think you're probably in the best position to make the call of where you should attend. Don't be so smug next time
