I am not waitlisted at UTMB but I know people who are and I haven't heard anything. But I also haven't heard anything from UT-H. :scared: 😕 Does anyone have any updates?

None from here...

I tried writing to TAMU at the beginning of this month and have yet to hear a response. Perhaps I will call later this week. 😳

I thought there was no movement at UTH and TAMU as well. Is there any movement at UTH? I haven't heard anything, any one want to say otherwise. I thought UTH still has 20 people overaccepted, how can there be movement.

I think there will be some movement because having been to the welcome weekend, it seemed as though half of our class was waitlisted at Baylor

So, it seems like there may be some trickle-down effect related to Baylor's waitlist movement. Also, we saw that neoncandle left us for UTSW 🙁 So presumably, there will be some movement in the near future.

I've totally given up on UTSW and their waitlist, but good luck to y'all! Hope to see some of you at UT-Houston this year! 👍

Hi y'all! getunconscious, don't give up. You may still get in at WashU. 🙂

I was told June 1st was the last date I could stay on the alternate list but someone else told me June 15th. I am confused. Anyone know for sure? :scared:

so it seems some schools snail-mail that you are accepted and some do it by phone, which schools do what, anyone know?

I think the date is June 15th this year. In previous years, it was earlier (june 1st) b/c San Antonio started school early

I called last week and the lady told me there has been no waitlist movement and that it would be another couple of weeks before any decisions would be made. She wasn't sure yet if there would be any movement.

alright ya'll, i can't sleep. literally, i got to sleep at like 4am and maybe get 4 or 5 hours, any advice. if i have to do this for a year, i'll look very old afterwards....

Also, you have to remember that those accepted off the waitlist have to call Houston which I am not doing until I have a letter in hand (presumably tomorrow or early Friday). I am not sure if they start moving when the med schools talk to each other or if they wait until the student calls.

5 hours? are you kidding me? that's pretty much standard for med school unless you're REALLY good with time management, unlike me........ 😴

so you guys are indicating people have come off of UTH's alternate pool, is that true. anyone know of a friend or soemthing. last time i called they said they still were overaccepted by 15 students.

Ha! Your schedule sounds like mine. I've thrown a new job search in too. May as well make more money, right? 😉

EVERYONE is getting married or moving. I think I no longer own my life...at least for the forseeable future. 😳

A friend of mine got off (and accepted) the waitlist at Houston a couple of weeks ago (she was already accepted at another TX school). So there is definite movement at Houston.

oh do you know what school this person is from.

oh, so i called them and they said 210 people are now accepted. they said the adcoms chose two people from alternate pool, so i asked why, cause they still have over 10 more people. she basically said the ascoms felt like it so they picked two people eventhought they were overaccepted.

can you believe it. so it seems weird b/c why would you pick people if you have accpeted more people then sits.what do ya'll think.

I just talked to some dude with 3.8/30, who interviewed at all tx schools and matched into his 7th choice, TCOM. This story is very similar to Blue Orchids, i just think this is crazy. I figure I share it.

Hey all. I haven't been around sdn much lately due to actually working about 40 hours a week since school ended. I'm moving to Houston in August to start grad school at UT, retaking the MCAT, and looking for a job. So...if anyone hears of anything or has any advice on how to find a job in the med center I'd love to get some advice. Gracias!

Do you know if this guy plans on reapplying, or is he going to attend TCOM in the fall? I've decided to do the latter, since the risk of reapplying and not getting in anywhere is too great for me to take. But that's where we differ. As long as TCOM can make me a great doctor, then I'll be happy.

Which grad school? If UT GSBS then you'll get paid a stipend. If not, then try the following websites (just a few):

www.uth.edu
www.mdanderson.org
http://www.memorialhermann.org/
www.bcm.edu

Good luck.

UT SPH = no stipend. But I did qualify for a $300/semester grant. whoo-hoo. I've applied for some positions at Methodist, St. Luke's, MDAnderson, and Hermann that I found online. I was just wondering if there was another way to find jobs that may lead to actually getting hired.

Yes, if you want a research assistant job then *contact people* with big labs and see if they are hiring. TMC HR depts are all scary black holes, and the only way I got my job was to email the PI of the lab personally. I looked through the UTH/ Baylor/ MD Anderson websites & found labs that were larger (ie, had money to pay me). They often had job listings on their website too. I just shot off quick emails saying why I was interested (with my resume attached), and had much better luck lining up job interviews. good luck!

:luck:

bump (writing with incredible frusturation and pure raw anger) 🙁 😡

Still waiting. I am wondering if I should send another LOR. I can't believe its almost June 1st. I have sent two LORs in the past two months. Is three too many? :scared:

You should look into the Cancer PRevention Education Fellowship at MD Anderson. You need to find an MD Anderson faculty member to serve as your mentor and apply by writing a proposal. It usually lasts about 6 months and sometimes up to 9 months if you get an extension. Also, you're mentor can always hire you on board if s/he likes you enough. The annual salary is 20K for part-time work, plus we get benefits. Oh, there's also 800 bucks alloted for educational conferences. You can PM me for more info.

4th page, so how come no ones talking.

I think it looks like the begaining of the end for this thread. 🙁

people are coming off of waitlists...i have a friend who just got off of texas tech's waitlist last week...so good luck!

okay so i've called tmdsas in austin few times at 512-499-4785 for reapplication, no one ever picked up. what's teh deal. anyone in similar postion. they tell you to e-mail them. last year they didn't do this, i think they are getting really annoyed.

oh yeah, bump.

Talked to TCOM a few weeks ago, and they said that they expected waitlist movement towards the middle to end of June. He said the lady was really nice and encouraged him to re-apply for next year.

Still religiously checking the answering maching. Do TMDSAS schools usually call or e-mail?

At least from everthing I have observed (which is not really a lot) all Texas schools that have taken people off have called.

Does anyone feel as though when calling a school and inquiring about waitlist movement, the person on the phone simply looks at the calendar and give an arbitrary time frame 2-3 weeks away?

Timeline of the WAITLIST:

February 1st: NO MATCH (suck)

February 2nd: WAITLIST (nm), told movement would accur around March 15th

March 15th: WAITLIST, told movement would occur May 15th

May 15th: WAITLIST, told movement would occur mid to late June.

Will the madness ever end?

sure, the madness ends when classes start.

I don't want to say I've given up hope but I'm in the middle of reapplying and as the days go by I'm trying to think less and less about what might happen off the waitlists and just about my future this next year not in medical school (even though I check this thread like twice a day, hahaha). Like you, I feel like I've been given a great deal of conflicting information about the waitlists and now when I think about the word "movement" I associate it with like a trickle. I wholeheartedly have given up on the idea of a mass movement of people off the waitlists at this point. I'm sorry if this is really depressing to read.
