hmmm...That sounds like a big fat rejection. Has anyone called the school to find out?

this is weird... I don't think it's a new letter. It's the letter that says "The class has been filled" but the date on it is May 8. Didn't we get this letter before? The place in the order of letters for me is Interview scheduled, you have been placed on hold, the class is full, and then you are now on the alternate list.

Edit: It sounds like a big fat rejection, saying the class has been filled and we cannot offer you a spot or something. But unless I'm imagining things, didn't we get this letter before being put on the alternate list? And I also thought they didn't really reject from the alternate list? This is weird...

I never got it. This time or the last. My letter order is interview offer, interview confirmation, hold list, alternate list.
 
I guess I got booted off the alternate list :scared: Even though I thought they held your app under consideration when you've made it this far.
 
My iApply only says interview offer, confirmation, hold list, alternate list. Wierd. Did they send you an update email or did it just miraculously change?
 
Nothing changed on my iApply account. The Alternate List letter is still dated April 4th.

Wonder what's going on...

I dunno. I emailed Christian and am waiting for a response. The letter says that the class is filled and committed and therefore I won't be offered a place. I didn't get an iapply email... I have no idea what's going on.

It just doesn't make any sense to me that if I am indeed rejected, they would decide to reject me now... After placing me on the alternate list. 😕
 
Didn't someone else report on a Case thread that a weird Iapply message showed up for a bit, but they were told it was a fluke in the system? I think it was about a month ago right before the Alternate List posting was put up.
 
Has anyone called today? Get any response? School is supposed to start in two months. I would think they could give us some information.
 
Does anyone know exactly what day case starts?

Did dude1344 call the office today? Was he rejected? Are they rejecting people off the alternate list now? Now I'm worried.
 
It would make absolutely no sense for them to reject from the Alternate List.

I disagree with that. If there's no way that you're going to get in, they should let you know as early as possible so you can solidify your other plans.

It would make sense to reject if the alternate list was indeed ranked, unlike what they tell us.
 
I actually got the same May 8th letter update from case.

It says:
"At this time, our entering class is filled and committed. With regret, we must infom you that we are not able to offer you a place in the incoming class.

We are greatly disappointed that we are not able to accept all outstanding candidates who demonstrated an interest in our school; selection is made difficult by the vast number of applications that we receive each year. This year, we received over 5500 applications for the University Program, and were able to interview only around 900. As in previous years, we were faced with the situation of many more qualified applicants than could be accommodated within the class.

We sincerely appreciate your interest in the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and wish you the very best with your future studies."

The waiting sucks so I'm glad they rejected off the waitlist.. now i can be 100% excited about going to my other school~
but good luck to other people who are still waiting!! 🙂
 
If their class is full and committed why not send a rejection to everyone on the waitlist? wtf?

That must just be what they're saying, they might only be rejecting some because as we're seeing people are still giving up their spots.

It just seems odd that they're rejecting before we've seen any acceptances off the alternate list. I know that not everyone posts on SDN, but not one person has been accepted from alternate list yet. As we all know, most schools send rejections much much later than acceptances.
 
Christian said they've basically seen 0 movement for the class and that's why they had to cut down the alternates. Looks like this is a big year for Case in terms of incoming matriculants.
 
Some schools don't even send rejections. You just surmise that you've been rejected once the class matriculates and you're not a part of it.

I guess I should be happy that i wasn't part of the downsizing, but dangit I want to know!!!!
 
he made it sound like the class is still overfilled... Looks like a down year for waitlist movement.
 
It's still early for alternate liste movement... I wouldn't lose hope just yet...
 
Yes it's still early. I'm just stating that Christian said there was basically zip movement so far as the class is still filled, thus that's why they decided to cut down the alternate list.
 
did they send out all the letters already? i don't have one on iapply either... and i'm kind of surprised, but happy...
 
I wonder if there hasn't been movement because a lot of people are ignoring the May 1st deadline and still holding on to multiple acceptances. Maybe (keeping fingers crossed) there will be some movement around May 15t.
 
I'm new to SDN. Thought I'd let you all know that I'm still holding out hope til the end of May for movement at Case.

There have been a couple of people who have withdrawn recently and posted in the Case Class of '11 Thread in the Allo sub-forum.
 
Did anyone who got that rejection letter on iApply a few days ago ever find out if it was an error or if they cut down the alternate list?
 
someone said they talked to christian, and he said they were thinning down the list because not many people withdrew their acceptances 🙁

very weak sauce indeed. I feel like I cannot commit to planning my housing etc for any other schools until I hear from case.
 
Unfortunately corndog, that's what sucks the most about being on waiting lists at this time of the year. Neither case, nor any other schools that I know of, has a def. date when they'll pull people off the WL. It's all very variable...I know people in my class who got pulled off in early may, late may, and early june, and we were a class that had a good amount of WL movement so who knows what it'll be for you guys. At some point you have to make a decision to move ahead with plans for another school despite pending WLs, and then you also have to decide what you'll do if you do end up getting off the Wls even after you have a lease someplace else, etc. Best of luck!
