I interviewed back in October and haven’t heard back from the school, not even on a waitlist if that exists. I called in February and they told me that I’m still under review. What should I do?

What are your stats if you don't mind me asking? Haven't secured an interview but same--under review. At least it is not a flat rejection??

Me too! Interviewed at end of October and still haven't heard. I just called last week and they said - still under review and to wait. Also that March and April can see lots of changes. Waitlist does exist but they only add a couple people at a time, hope we both hear soon!

So do waitlisted people have priority over everyone else? I am wondering--who gets on the waitlist??

Technically, anyone who is still under review is potentially eligible to be admitted. We are internally ranked, and they do not release the ranking to potential students. They notify about 2 people of their addition to the waitlist/alternate pool at a time. Those people are ranked so when a spot becomes available it is given to the next person in line on the waitlist and that is when they add another person to the list and notify them of their addition to the list --but they are not given the ranking, just that they have been added to the alternate list. Being added to the alternate list is a GOOD thing (although it is a frustrating waiting game), it means you're one of the next people in line as a spot becomes available :)

I see, so do you know how many people are waitlisted at a time? Also, at this point, is it possible to get accepted without an interview?

Dang. Guess I will have to figure out what to do for the next year :/ Are you in??

Just thought I would mention that the U of M offers re-applicant sessions throughout the Spring. Although it is a group session, they are able to discuss your individual application at the end and what is needing improvement. As a re-applicant myself, this was very helpful! Good luck!

Have you heard anything back yet?

Oh, do we have to ask them for information, or do they reach out to us individually? Also, did you make it in, Groggy?

It is an event that requires an RSVP. Here is the link to the website: Information Sessions. They offer both a informational session and reapplicant session. Currently I do not see any future dates for the reapplicant session but I am pretty sure they will come up with dates in April/May etc.

I finally made it in this cycle! :)

The way I find out about this session is from their rejection email. Definitely do it!

Do you know when they send out rejections? It doesn’t seem like many people receive rejections. That’s why I am confused with my position right now.

For Class of 2022, the rejections went out late January. I am not sure why they still waiting considering the class is mostly set.

I’m not entirely sure when or how they send out rejections.

I was in your same position during a previous application cycle. No interview or word from admissions and it was already April. Weirdly enough, I attended the re-applicant session and received the rejection that same night.

The application cycle before this (my first cycle), I sent an email about my status in late March (again no interview). They proceeded to tell me that no more interviews were being conducted then rejected me.

In the end, I would not be afraid to send an email to inquire about your status. I personally would rather know now than be stuck in limbo.

Wow, congrats on making it in this cycle! What resilience!! :O So, probably not going to make it this time around. Do you mind sharing with me what your application was like the first time around? And the changes you made between your first and third attempts? Any tips would be great. I will probably attend the reapplicant session.

Feel free to PM me! I am happy to talk.

Just a quick question, how do we know whether we are waitlisted or not? I went for an interview but heard literally nothing after that, is that a rejection lol. I did try to send them some emails in the past few months after my interview, and they also did not respond....

So February 1st they sent out emails to students that were placed on the waitlist. Those student's had till Feb 15 to accept or decline. Once students are taken off the waitlist, they add more students on to it. Looking at past forums, some people were added on the waitlist in April as well. So if you haven't heard back, that could potentially mean that you might be added on the waitlist once a spot opens. Strange that they haven't replied to your email, maybe try calling?

When did you interview? Are we sure they aren't interviewing anymore? :O Just making sure!

Has anyone heard back that interviewed post december? I interviewed december and I have not heard anything.
Does anyone know when we should hear back

Hi,

For those who have started collecting extracted teeth for the Oral Anatomy course, did you prepare your own 10% buffered formalin or was this available from the dental practitioner the teeth were collected from? I know that containers can be purchased from Dr. Madden but I was wondering if there were other options.

Thank you!

Is anyone a current student, or know any current students, and could possibly provide an example of the first semester schedule?
Thank you!!

I purchased 10% formalin on eBay.

Does anyone know how long (days) Minnesota gives to students holding multiple seats in different universities to decide on their school? Or if anyone on the waitlist heard of movements of the list?

If you are holding a spot at multiple schools I know there is a specific date (I think it is April 5th ish??) where you have to pick just one school. But I don't think there are any dates for the UMN specifically. When I last spoke to UMN admissions they said that the waitlist is pretty fluid through the end of April/early May. I am still hoping to be wait listed this year.

Thanks! I read online that ADEA gives a min of 15 days after March 1st, but I'm guessing this year it could be different

Hey have you heard back from them yet. I interviewed december and havent heard back, I can not imagine waiting from october. I just wish they gave us some sort of time frame of when we should hear back

No, I haven't heard anything. I am trying to keep it together and just keep waiting- but it is SO difficult! I wish there was a better time frame or more info given out as well!

Reading through all of these comments, it doesn’t seem as though that waitlist is as fluid as they say it is! I am just hanging around and taking notes for next cycle! Good luck to all who are still waiting!

So I emailed admissions last Monday and just received a reply from them couple of days ago. According to Susie, student services specialist, UMN "are updating students about status changes currently and will continue to provide updates through the month of August." =_=

Dang, so I could get interviewed for next cycle before my status changes for this cycle? Leo are you waitlisted???

No I’m not waitlisted :(
My interview was toward the end of October of last year and I didn’t hear back from them since then so that’s why I wrote them that email

With that in mind, will a person who is not waitlisted get accepted before a person on the waitlist? And does it matter if you interview early or late? Like, are the more favorable people interviewed Pre-Dec?

So I was under the impression that being waitlisted is better than no news at all. Also, being a pre-dec interviewee is better since you get a chance during the first round of acceptances (more seats open=Less competition= higher acceptance rate) than post dec. Honestly, if you haven’t heard back by February, I think the playing field is the same regardless of whether you interviewed post or pre-December since you’re competing for the few open slots left.

But that is all my opinion... I’m not sure how the process really works as this is my first time applying lol I was hoping they would have a set date to let us know whether we were waitlisted or outright rejected so that we’re not stuck in limbo

Some one told me that if you are going to be wait listed they would notify you ~2 weeks after you interview. A friend of mine interviewed in February one month after me and she was put on the wait list and I still have not heard anything back.

Your friend interviewed in February? So I guess they do interview after January! Did you two have similar stats? Man, I really want to go to the U of M—I was born in the cities. But they didn’t notice me this cycle

Oh... but that ~2 weeks time frame is geared more toward post December interviewees right?

So if people were waitlisted in April, that must mean that people were pulled up in April as well?!
