Hey 5279. Congratulations on your acceptance. I was wondering, where did you interview at and were accepted? Just wanted to see what kind of people UCLA are trying to get these days.

Didnt someone say the class is currently full? If so, how did 5279 get in? Just wondering.

So you know: 5279 is a URM as he stated on medical gold so he would "technically" be placed in a different "group" as other candidates..just so you know before you make connections 🙂

UCLA waitlist works such taht if a Native Californian who lives in Alaska and works on the fishing boats withdraws from acceptance, UCLA will try their best to replace that person with someone very very similiar. So that means people who are not in Alaska are not in the pool to be pulled from the waitlist. Understand?

The class is full but when people withdraw from other schools then that moves their waitlist then people who are "holding an acceptance" at UCLA want to go to another school they can then withdraw from UCLA 🙂

Good luck

Hey guys, I also got pulled on 7/8. I checked my status page Monday and it said a letter was sent. Then, I got my letter on Wednesday. Feels great!!! I hope the list keeps moving!!!

Congratulations zealous.
Thank you Scooby Doo.
Hey 5279 and zealous, did you send in anything after your waitlist? If so, what did you send?

Yaoming,

Thanks for the congrats. I interviewed at all the CA schools, except USC, and one out of state school (Howard). I was accepted at Howard and w/drew from all other waitlists after getting into UCLA. I think my problem was that I submitted my AMCAS app pretty late, therefore, I was essentially interviewing for fewer spots.

By the way Scoob, I'm a girl 🙂 .

IN that case....

How YOU doin?!?!?

😀 😛 😛 😛 😀

icic. cool 5279. did you send anything in after you were waitlisted? i'm hoping i can be classmates with you next year. : )

Yao,

I sent in four additional letters of recommendation and my own continued letters of interest. One of my letters was a letter of intent. Good Luck.😉

Yaoming and Ceez, I PM'd you!!!😛

CONGRATULATIONS Zealous and 5279 on your acceptance!!!! Wow, I was gone just for 10 days and soo much has happened during my absence.

Zealous, I am esp happy for you...now you can forget about reapplying and celebrate such good news. But I'm also envious, girl.😉

Anyway, glad to know that some of us have been pulled off from this waitlist club.

Bad news: talked to Deanna today to figure out what my chance is at this point. The class is full ( ok, this is not new), and she doesn't anticipate much of the movement. Anything can happen of course but since the spots freed up by those undecided/semi-decided have been offered to the former waitlistees who, for sure, will matriculate, I am feeling rather pessimistic about my chance. I guess it's about time for me to stop thinking about "what if" and start looking for housing in Irvine more actively.

I emailed Dr. Parker last week, and he told me that the waitlist has been slow to move this year. He also said that they will continue to admit students from the waitlist up until the first day of classes as spots become available.

nope. I call the admissions office yesterday and was told that the class was full. i spoke with someone named Lilly. she told me that there was only one waitlist and that it was unranked. i asked her how the waitlist worked and she said that whenever a spot opens up, they review all files in order to fill that spot. it sounds like more work than necessary to me. i wish they just had some kind of ranking system so we all could know if we have shot at getting in.

That's what I heard from Deanna too.. I'm preparing my mind to go to Irvine at this point.

and i'm preparing to go to BU. now i just have to figure out how to get my car from cali to the east coast.

I called today to check if they received a letter I sent last week and after putting me on hold for awhile, he said that my file was with the admissions committee so he could not verify if the letter had been added to my file. I then asked if any spots had opened up, and he said the class is still full. If there are no spots open, why are they reviewing my file? Do you think that at this point, they are trying to rank them? I thought they only reviewed files when they have a spot to fill so they can fill it with a similar profile. Anyone have any news?

why dont you call them and ask the same exact question you just asked us? sounds like a legitimate question you can ask them. please let us know what you find out.

am i the only one that checks the online application status several times a day?

If it's any consollation, I just checked it for the 2nd time today, and I'll probably check it again in about an hour.

barb, why dont you call them right now and ask your question. we'd all want to know. : )

so when's the last day they'll accept people from the waitlist? August 2?

hehe. no you two aren't the only ones obsessing. I have tried to cut down checking my status page to two times a day. I'm so curious as to how many people are still on the waiting list at this point. Sucks that they won't give us numbers like that over the phone (such as how many have been accepted off the wl so far, how many still on the list, etc.). Anyways, 2 more weeks to go! So no one else on SDN has gotten in off the waitlist at UCLA??

Just wondering what kind of stats did y'all get to get into UCLA.....I am minority student attending UNLV have a 3.7 gpa and 4.0 science gpa with several extracurricularsand a ton of disadvantages....... always open to opinions thanx😕

I just wanted to tell all those on the waiting list to not give up hope yet. After calling them on the 10th and getting told that the class was full and that there wasn't much hope on getting off of the waitinglist, an acceptance letter was sent out the next day for me. Needless to say I'm ecstatic, but for those waiting...its not all lost yet! And also, a friend of mine who is also attending UCLA told me that his roommate and another guy in the class both just got accepted to Harvard. So one is withdrawing from UCLA for sure, and the other is still thinking about it.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your acceptance to UCLA. You must have been one of the July 8 acceptance batch--there are now three for sure from this forum who got in off the waitlist that week. Thanks for instilling hope for us still waiting and you're right, there may be another 2-3 who may eventually get in, but the rest of 100 of us won't.

Again, congrats!

You guys are lucky, at least UCLA has some online status check tihng. Other people, like me, have to call their schools every 2 to 3 days and disguise their voices when inquiring about waitlist status/movement.

Good Luck.

Congratulations on your acceptance! Thanks for keeping the hope alive! If at all possible, could you tell that person who is pondering Harvard that it would be a great mistake to pass up the chance to go to Harvard (that way one of us could take his spot).😉

i just wanted to let you all know that this acquaintance of mine just got off the waitlist at ucsf and will be giving up her spot at ucla. those were the only two schools in which she was waitlisted. she went to ucla as an undergrad and her stats were something like 3.98 and 30. i could be wrong, but aren't these stats a little low for those schools? btw: she also interviewed at harvard, nyu, dartmouth, georgetown, etc. (but was rejected post interview from all of those schools)

hope someone on sdn gets her ucla spot!

3.98 is low? --Trek

trek, i meant her mcat score. besides, don't those top 10 schools only take people with 4.0 and 35 mcats?

UCLA, top 10? I thought it was 12th or 13th for research and primary care according to US NEWS. Is it top 10 for the other rankings?

It's ranked number 1 for "schools that agonize their applicants and waitlistees."

I just called this morning, and talked to Deanna. Apparently, as of the present time, the class is full. Those harvard and ucsf spots are apparently taken. So that's that. Pretty much no hope, and pack our bags for another school.

the class has been full for a while now, but i wouldn't give up hope just yet. i bet there'll be a few last minute spots that'll open up.

well, according to the few previous posts, one person goin to harvard and one goin to ucsf opened spots up. another person who might go to harvard was going to open another spot up also. however, those spots have been filled as of today. that is what deanna said. 5 more days left, i doubt there will be much of any movement.

what are you basing this on besides a pessimistic attitude? if there's anything this whole application process has taught me is that nothing is certain.

Deanna might have said it to not encourage us from thinking we have a chance. Based on the information given I doubt the committee have had an opportunity to get together and review the entire waitlistees profiles yet...remember? They don't have a ranked waitlist so gotta review all 100 of us files again... Anyway, just a thought.

i really wish they would rank waitlistees. at least we'd know where we stand.

I agree. It would have lessoned some of the extra time pressure off of their shoulders too if they ranked the list.

I was accepted into UCSF thursday off the waitlist. That opens one last spot at UCLA and I hope it is for one of you who has been waiting so patiently. GOOD LUCK. They should be making the call this week. Today or tomorrow.

PeasOnToast,

Congrats on your UCSF acceptance...it's a super school and SF is one great place to live. And thanks for sharing the good news.
