Letter from Dean Dubin:
Faculty, Staff, and Students,

The following chart was posted on the NBOME web site this morning. While we are still awaiting more Level II CE and PE results, our COMLEX I scores for the entire class of 2015 are finalized.
As you can see, the class of 2015 had great scores, with an effective 98% pass rate. Well done!!

Thanks to all of you (faculty, staff, and student body) for all that you do in training the next generation of physicians.

Just another time to say, Y’all Rock!!
Dr. D

You have to take these numbers with a grain of salt. Some schools "game the system" by not lletting their weakest students sit for COMLEX. The numbers might be for test takers, but not the actual number of students in the Class.

Rocky Vista is not one of those schools though. I have nothing but respect for their preparation for the boards. Every RV student I've talked with has said they feel confident in their ability to pass. They just do a very solid job ensuring their students are prepared.

Actually, that is not the case for RVUCOM. All student are required to take the exam by July 15th to begin the third year. There is NO threshold comsae test that we had to take in order to sit for COMLEX. And all results are first time takers and actual number in the class.

You have to take this with a grain of salt. Take LECOM for instance. They won't let you graduate unless you pass the board exams so one could argue their pass rate is 100% because you HAVE TO PASS to get your diploma. I think more and more schools are leaning toward this trend. So you have to pass the boards, they should all say 100% pass rate. Now if your percentages where the percent of students who passed the first try??? then that's a different argument.

Why do we all need to know this the minute it happens and why do RVU students suddenly come out of the woodwork reminding us it is the next Harvard every time someone has anything to say about the school that isn't compliementary?

PLENTY of schools play with their averages.

RVU is not special, it is just another DO school.

Move on with our lives.

i'd still pick u of colorado if i wanted to go to school in CO

We may have to take the results with a grain of salt, but I'll definitely look at this feedback and take it with me to my interview. IMO last year's match list speaks for itself. RVU is doing a good job. I'm interested 🙂

Hmm... I wonder where you're doing your masters work at. 😛

Nice try RVU marketing office.

But this is for the class of 2015, so they haven't graduated yet. I've been on the anti-RVU bandwagon myself, but it's hard to argue this data if it is true.

There is nothing to argue. Everyone on these boards is so HUNG UP on stats that don't matter. You go to medical school, you study, and you have to pass step I, step II, and step II PE to graduate, plain and simple. Just do what you have to do and get your diploma. You HAVE to PASS. I just don't get the rehashing of things that don't matter. Much of the RVU faculty used to work for LECOM so I know they will teach you the right information. Why would any school waste their time to NOT prepare the students to pass the boards?

I agree with everything you said, I just didn't think your previous example really applied to this situation. You're right, it really doesn't matter.

Well, some students believe that this interferes with the notion of for-profit schools, which put profits above the student's needs. Current RVU students though want to show that it isn't the case and this post might be to help dispel this misconception.

Well said. Thumbs up 😀

I am glad I am not the only one who got a vibe from RVU that they think they are the next Harvard.

At my interview, one of the student ambassadors claimed if they got a better score on the boards than someone at Stanford, they would choose her over the Stanford student.

For real? What was there name? Just FYI board scores ARE important but there is more to the match than Step 1/2.

There were 4913 grads in the class of 2013 and, based on those figures, I guess there are 5223 in the class of 2015, which would be a 6% increase.

Well done RVU, from what I hear their admissions is extremely random. So maybe they are good at finding the hidden geniuses?
