Hi everyone, I am trying to decide between Toledo vs. UCF (OOS for both). Toledo is more established and has a nice track record in terms of board scores and residencies. UCF might be waiving the OOS fees, although nothing is set in stone. Not sure what will happen in the future for residency placements with a new school...Any thoughts are appreciated.

At your interview, did UCF tell you how much scholarship money OOS people would get?

It depends on how much UCF will cost you.... If they give you a full ride, for example, then you've gotta take it IMO. If the total cost in the end isnt especially great then go to Toledo.

They said that they are hard at work raising money, but so far only 2 full scholarships were obtained for a class of 60 students. This was 2 months ago, so they may have raised more money in the last few weeks. As of now, there is nothing promised to next year's class. The OOS fee is $32,000...pretty high for 4 years. They are trying to waive that fee, but another question is whether or not it will be for 1 year, or all 4 years.

It depends on how much UCF will cost you.... If they give you a full ride, for example, then you've gotta take it IMO. If the total cost in the end isnt especially great then go to Toledo.

Thanks for the advice. Realistically, the most that I could see UCF giving OOS students is a waived OOS fee, and then the tuition per year is $21,000 plus $4,000 in fees. It is unclear whether that will be for 1 or all 4 years. Toledo is OOS for the 1st year, but students can apply for Ohio residency and become instate for 3 years. Money is definitely a big factor in this decision. What are your thoughts about residency?

Based on the information you have, I don't think you should try to make a decision now. Wait until you know exactly what you'll be paying for each.

UCF offered me a 15,000 scholarship towards the full tuition which doesn't even cover half of the OOS fees. Is it still worth it? Any thoughts?

so does this mean the oos fee will not be waived??? i think i am at the top of the oos waitlist... so if you choose toledo i would be incredibly grateful! (no offense) this is my dream school, but there has been no movement so far!

Yes, so it seems right now that they are not waiving the oos fee...however each student receives some sort of a scholarship. The fact that the charter class received full scholarships plus living expenses for 4 years and the second class will get only a little amount is a tough pill to swallow. I bet there will be some waitlist movement in a few weeks, hang in there! Best of luck! The question for me is whether it's worth the extra money to attend UCF.
