ditto! see you guys there.

Do any of you guys know whether Touro sends an email acceptance in addition to the airmail?? 🙂

I just received a letter in the mail, no email - I wish they gave acceptances by email though, that would be so nice, instead of checking the mail every single day!

how long after your interview did you hear back

Awesome to know they've already accepted another chicago person. Mind telling me who you flew out with (american, southwest?) and where you stayed? Did you fly into Laguardia? I assume you cabbed it from there to your hotel and from your hotel to the interview?

I flew with ATA to Laguardia. Then took the cab too the hotel which was close to columbia university. from then on, just took the subway, except day of interview... i taxied again, to make sure i got there on time.

Hey skier, if you don't mind me asking when did you interview at the school?

Hey skier, if you don't mind me asking when did you interview at the school?

I interviewed on 11/28, the letter was dated 12/3, I received it 12/7. I think that I interviewed right before the committee met though, so that's why it was so quick.

I interviewed on Dec. 4 and received my acceptance in the mail today!!! Yay!!!
btw, the previous msg was actually me, I was on my friend's computer and forgot to log him out and sign in myself. Ignore the previous post...he's going to an MD program

Everything was completed last week. I wonder will my file be reviewed and given an answer before the end of this week as holiday starts the week after

Don't worry. You will hear from them soon. Obed definitely told us that everyone who receives a secondary and submits it along with LORs gets an interview. Good Luck!

Congrats aaw2107! Woohoo! Every acceptance makes me too more and more excited at what the next few years in New York will bring🙂

Stormcrow, thanks so much. I am so relieved you can't even imagine. Good luck to you and hopefully I will see you next year at TOUROCOM!

Actually, hehe, I totally can imagine! I can't even begin to describe what a relief it was for me to even get an interview, let alone find out I was accepted (especially considering my letter was lost in the mail... good thing other SDN people who interviewed the same day as I did, reported when their letters arrived! I called Obed and he told me it was sent and then fedEx'd me a new one).

Anyway, if you choose to matriculate, then I'm sure we'll see each other next year:hardy:

Congrats again!

:clap:CONGRATULATIONS on your acceptances!!!!

do you guys get a holiday break between semesters?

Hofstra is opening a new medical school (MD) soon in Long Island.

Really? I had heard mumblings of this years and years ago, but nothing recently.

I am extremely excited about TOUROCOM-NY and I am pretty sure I will be attending next year. I do have a question though. What do you guys think about the fact that this is such a new school? Do you think this will impact our ability to get into specialty residencies? Thanks.

I wouldn't think so. However, TouroCOM expresses the mission to create osteopathic primary care physicians, so if you're dedicated to going into a specialty far outside that field, I don't know that Touro's the right school for you.

Truthfully, all DO schools emphasize the importance of producing primary care doctors. I don't think that Touro does this more so than others..it'll probably be a little tougher to get into specialties regardless of the DO school you attend 😕

Thanks Bond and HappyGirl. I realize that it is more difficult to match into specialties as a DO but schools such as PCOM and DMU regularly match students into competitive residencies at a rate nearly equal to that of an MD program. I was just wondering if the fact that this is a new school makes it even more difficult. Maybe it was a stupid question on my part. Now that I'm in, of course I have to start worrying about something!! lol 😉

I just got my acceptance letter in the mail! 😍 Anybody else get the good news today?? Good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews!

Good for you happygirl!!! I bet you are an even happier girl today 😉

Congrats! I knew you'd get in. I haven't gotten my letter yet. Hopefully it'll be here monday.

Congrats, Happygirl!

Big interview tomorrow, can't wait to see you guys there. 🙂 I'll be the very tired one (I'm taking a train in from CT early in the morning instead of getting a hotel... and I'm sure I'll kick myself for it tomorrow). Any last minute advice from people who have already interviewed here?

Just try to show them what kind of person you are and answer the questions honestly. My advisors told me how to answer certain questions the "right way" but once I got in there, I was like, screw it, this is who I am. And I got in. Don't let them intimidate you. They grilled me a little bit but I didn't let it get to me. If they told me something I didn't know or corrected me, I just said, oh, I did not know that. Honesty is the best policy.
Best of luck.

thanks, so much aaw, great advice 🙂

Just be yourself and be passionate, make sure you talk about things that matter to you. Lead the convo because they most likely won't and remember that you are there for a reason...they chose you based on your great application..so now it's just the icing on the cake ! Good luck!!!

anybody who interviewed last week heard back yet?
im getting anxious now

thanks for all the advice, guys, it was helpful! The interview seemed to go pretty well, even though one of the interviewers was playing devil's advocate to the MAX. The school was great though, and I couldn't believe how friendly the students were even though they were having exams (good luck on your last exam tomorrow, guys!). Obed said we'd be hearing shortly after the holidays, so early Jan. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone... :luck:

Back in Chicago! It was fun meeting you guys and I hope we get some good news sent our way Jan 2ndish.

Ok I know its REALLY early, BUT...hey why not start now, Who is DEFINITELY going to TouroCOM and if you are what are your plans for housing...I am looking at apartments within walking distance of the school so I dont have to spend money on transportation everyday. Has anyone started looking yet?

When I interviewed, they gave us a list of hospitals that rotations would most likely be at. For those who are already enrolled, I know you haven't started these yet, but do you have any other information on it?

I was recently accepted and am excited about enrolling. The school looks amazing, and I really like the location. I was just curious about the rotations.

I was wondering what you guys think of the facilities at TOUROCOM. I think they looked fine but I have nothing to compare them to. People seem to comment positively on them all the time, which makes me wonder what they are used to seeing. This was my first interview so I haven't seen any other schools. How do these facilities compare to others you have seen on the interview trail? What is better/worse about them?

I thought the facilities were great. I've been to DCOM, LECOM - Erie, WVSOM, NYCOM, and now Touro-NY, and I thought the OMM lab was better than all the schools except NYCOM, and I'd say they were about the same. The clinical labs were by far the best I've seen. The anatomy lab looked very nice and we were told that the air circulation system was state-of-the-art, but as we didn't go in, I can't say if there was a smell or not (there was NO smell at WVSOM, which is supposed to have the BEST anat lab). The library is about the same size as everywhere else I've been (small) but they said most of the resources are electronic and accessible from home. Hope that helps!

Another significant factor is that the facilities are new and still being built. This is both a positive, as was said above, but it also had its negatives--practically the entire building was cold because they're still figuring out their heating/cooling/insulation situation (the girls on interview day were really cold throughout), an entire floor of the building is still being constructed (the Pharm school), the main lobby while it looks good is still under construction, a fifth floor that would include a gym is still under construction.

We WERE told that a lot of this would be totally resolved by when we enrolled in Fall 2008 (such as the lobby, building temperature) but I'm sure those who attend in the first few years will have to continue to deal with these types of growing pains like the class of 2011 seems to be doing. I'd also say the students are so enthusiastic about their school that clearly the positives are greater than the negatives.

Hey all, I'm sorta a new member of SDN, but I've enjoyed reading all of your posts in the past few weeks. They are really informative and you guys really support each other in a great way.

I'm interview at Touro on Jan 9th, is anyone else going on that day? Just wondering. :meanie:

Also when we start in fall 2008, we will also be starting with the first pharmacy class enrolled at TOURO NY too. Come 2008, our facilities will house osteopathic medicine as well as pharmacy.

aaaand they're putting a gym in on the top floor!!

This question goes to current students at Touro:

can you guys please tell me a little bit about the curriculum? The school's website isn't too informative. For example, what is your class schedule like? Also...are the classes pass/fail? (I am assuming they are since most schools do it that way) Thanks! 🙂

I asked about this yesterday. The curriculum is didactic lectures for the first year ie. Biochem, histo, etc. Second year is the pathophysio stuff. Not integrated. Classes are not pass/fail, Letter grades. Really nice facilities there ie. tech lab/library was nice. Streaming lectures coming soon. The only hesitation I have about this school is the fact it's only the first class now. No rotations etc yet,

I just scheduled at Jan 9th. Hope to see you there.
Do you know how many they interview per day? How soon will they notice you the result and how many people are they taking among the people being interviewed?

When I was there Tuesday there were 16 of us, and Obed said they didn't have a set number of acceptances for each interview date; thus, everyone can be accepted, rejected, or just one person accepted, or all but one. I guess it depends on how well your interview goes, which is nice. Also, he said that there are 40 seats taken out of either 135 or 125 (I can't remember the exact number). Good luck on the 9th!
