anyone interviewing december 5th?

I am. I'm really excited and a little nervous for this interview. Does anyone have any advice? Also, can some of you recently accepted students post your stats just so I can get an idea of where I stand? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

How are the different Touro schools related. What are the cons of going to such a new school? Any thoughts from the Touro med students?

I've heard good/bad things about the main branch in Mare Island. Which is Touro University, which is in name different than Touro College in Harlem. I heard the biggest disadvantage with the Touro's is that there is no attached teaching hospitals. Obviously the biggest draw to Touro Harlem is being in NYC and the proposed clinical rotations.

I don't think PCOM PA has an attached teaching hospital anymore. I don't think that's a big negative. It actually works out in your favor because you get to rotate through other hospitals and make really great connections for your residency. Especially in NY, you'll be rotating through hospitals with allopathic students and making the same contacts as them, so you'll be on equal ground when it comes to residency.

1. The dean asked us for a mini bio (Where we went to school, what we do now, where we're from). Have something interesting to say. "I went to ABC University, I'm from the ABC City, I'm currently an ABC researcher, and I'm really interested in setting a Guinness world record in knitting."
2. Have a great answer about why you're interested in medicine
3. Have a great answer about why DO
4. Introduce yourself to your interviewers
5. Make friends with your fellow interviewees
6. Wear comfortable walking shoes - one girl's heel broke enroute to the hospital and it was very uncomfortable!
7. Ask about things you are interested in (research, volunteering, competition cage fighting, whatever)
8. Have fun!

really...this isn't school-specific. it's interviewer specific. this is good advice for people who encounter an interviewer like this though.

Sent it in mid-Nov and got an email 11/26 that I was complete. Somebody else noted on here also had a 10 day turnaround. When I emailed somebody from their office to ask if I had anything left to send them, they mentioned interview invites are sent as dates open up.

No response to my email yet..

Awesome to know they've already accepted another chicago person. Mind telling me who you flew out with (american, southwest?) and where you stayed? Did you fly into Laguardia? I assume you cabbed it from there to your hotel and from your hotel to the interview?

Somebody else noted on here also had a 10 day turnaround.

I think this might have been me. They were incredibly fast - I actually got the interview invite the day after I emailed them to see if my application was complete, AND the invite email was sent the day before they officially confirmed that I was complete. As long as you make sure that you have everything in, I think it wouldn't take more than a week or two for them to send an invite.

In my experience, the staff and faculty have all been so friendly and helpful. I think any delay in them getting back to you right now is probably just because it's such a busy time of year for applications.

Is it usual to have restrictions for new schools...? We fortunately do not.

The only thing I remember them saying at my interview was that some scholarships require the school to be fully accredited - since TOUROCOM is only provisionally accredited because full accreditation can only be given once the first class graduates, there may be certain scholarships that you're not eligible for. I'm not sure how common that would actually be, though.

If you're referring to the situation with student loans at Pacific Northwest, which hasn't yet opened it's doors, then no, TouroCOM has none of the issues they are facing with receiving student loans.

be assertive in talking about your interests and why you're interested in med school and osteopathic medicine. since the interview is closed file, even though the interviewers may have specific questions they want to ask you, it is certainly possible to direct the conversation towards your individual interests and goals. good luck!

1) yes, plus 1,000 for lab fees
2) we havent started that yet. We start after Christmas break. Right now we're taking: Biochemistry, Anatomy, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (its different), Physical Diagnosis, Introduction to Clinical Medicine, and Preventive Medicine/Public Health.

Biochem and anatomy at the same time, huh? that's rough! And yeah, reading the course descriptions I'd say Basic Science Foundations for Osteopathic Medicine sounds a little more basic-sciencey than OMM.

Being a little nervous is norm, don't worry to much. Use the interview link above and have prepared answers to questions you know they are going to ask. Practice with someone to help you. On the big day, show them that you want to be a DO. Also talk about any experience that you have with medicine. This will show your interest in the field and sometimes will prevent them asking some of those other pesky questions. Good luck and have confidence in yourself. If you made it to the interview, you are good enough to get in!

That seems really low to me. I would guess that it's more likely he meant that 20% of interviewees matriculate. With a class size of 135, that would mean that they interview +/- 500 people, which sounds about right.

I think this is a more plausible explanation, especially since they screen pretty hard for secondaries.

I agree with Skier. At the interview, the admissions director actually mentioned that about 20% if the interviewees matriculate. He also said that so early in the interview cycle, everyone who comes in has about a 50/50% to get in because the class is not filled even half way yet. So, relax everyone and don't feel sick...! 😛

It's 24 to get a secondary, according to the admissions people. I called to find out a few weeks ago.

I was interviewed by a Maya, but she wasn't a professor. She worked in the community outreach department or something like that.
