Anyone else applying here?? I emailed to ask about fall transcrips and they DO NOT require them! Good luck everyone, hope we start hearing back soon!!
I'm applying there as well, but haven't heard anything since the "here's what the rough timeline is" e-mail in October. Hopefully no news is good news.
Yep, no news is good news. At least, it's not bad news. 🙂
They don't send out anything until fairly early January.
If you can find someone who still has their interview email from last year, I bet this year's would come out within a business day or two of that. They've got the scheduling down to a fine art, and my impression of the director of admissions from my various interactions with her is that she is a highly competent, meticulous planner. You can bet that if they feel it worked well last year they'll repeat it precisely.
Standard disclaimer about not working in admissions applies.....
Oh. And looking one more step ahead, I got my offer Feb 16. But last year they were able to do it even a few days faster. (Yes, I have kept my admissions offer email.)
Nada! Keep checking the inbox. 🙂Anybody else obsessively checking their email waiting to hear from MN??? I'm guessing it will be soon since last year it was the 5th and the year before it was the 6th. Nothing to do but sit here and wait....![]()

So I know they don't require fall transcripts, but does that mean they won't accept them? I did really well in my fall classes and that boosted my gpa a bit, so I'd kind of like to send those along . . .
Rejected again. Crap.

Just got an interview invite as well, although I am thinking I may withdraw my App since I have an acceptance to my in state school. Congrats and good luck everyone!
Got my rejection email. Did not make the academic requirements, though my GRE score was higher than the average and my last 80 units was right in the range. Oh well. Kind of upset they did not look at anything else though. Actually sort of bitter since they have the most expensive application fee and don't even require a supplemental. The least they could do is look at the entire application.
Oh well, after being wait listed for CSU and Oregon, getting a definitive answer is much appreciated. Just got to stay positive!![]()
They probably did look at your whole app. When I applied last cycle, my numbers were on the lower end of the acceptable range, but they was still just barely good enough to get me past the first stage and have everything else looked at. They just list the numbers on the e-mail because they feel like it.
I'm just mad now. I did pretty much everything they told me to do, and got the same result as last year. I've already scheduled a file review for next week and someone will have some explaining to do. 😡
I'm an in state resident, but they told other people that asked at information sessions that it is difficult to get residency. They said people have done it, but you really need to show that you are not just here in the state for school.
I got an OOS invite, and was looking over in the interview feedback section to see what type of interview it is, but all the questions are "blocked by school." Does anyone know whether its closed or open file, behavioral or other? Also, is it correct that most interviews are an hour or longer?
Are there specified days for IS and OOS student interviews?
I think they may or may not have looked at your file, so it's not definitively open OR closed. You should plan to approach the interview as if they do not have background information. I don't have inside information on this question, but I know at the beginning of my interview, I specifically asked "So that I know how much background information to provide, can I ask if you've reviewed my file or not?" The answer was "assume we don't know anything," which is pretty ambiguous. Somewhere along the way I vaguely recall asking someone who does interviews (a professor, I think), and I thought he said that sometimes they review them and sometimes not. Probably just depends on free time. 😛
Interviews are designed to go up to an hour. Some may go over, but they shouldn't go much over because of scheduling. Mine was significantly less than an hour.
Thanks so much! I get a little more nervous when I can't see any previous questions before hand. Would you recommend renting a car to get around if I'm flying in?

As far as questions, we are asked not to talk about the specific questions used in the interview, but I believe it's fair to talk about how I prepared.
1) Google "behavioral interview questions." With a quick half hour research you can find alllll sorts of lists. Compile them into one big list. Weed out the stupid or redundant ones.
2) Find somebody you like, offer to buy them coffee if they'll listen to you blather for a few hours.
3) Go to the coffeeshop and have them ask you questions. Answer them just like it was a real interview. Get their feedback specifically on your pacing and non-verbal communication; they probably aren't qualified to give you feedback on the value of your actual answer.
That's pretty much what I did. Had my wife 'interview' me at Starbucks. It was pretty darn amazing how many questions in the actual interview were identical - or nearly so - to ones I had found doing just a tiny bit of research.
Don't attempt to memorize your answers. Your goal in practicing is to reflect back on your life and recall moments or relationships that will be useful to draw from during the interview. You want a 'stash' of life moments fresh in your brain, not canned answers. Don't be afraid to use 'little' things; every answer doesn't have to be some major life-changing event so long as it directly answers the question.
Hope that helps! Relax and it will be fine. You're going to find that everyone is welcoming and friendly.
