Thanks for demonstrating that Sid has by far the highest value in that group! I'd say 12 points in 8 games is pretty damn good tbh.

Not to mention that he is an all-around amazing player, both ends of the ice. Stats don't even begin to describe. 🙂

So I'm not gonna lie, I had a dream that I got an e-mail from Davis about admissions and when I went to see if I got in or not... I woke up. And there's still a few more weeks!! Curse you waiting game!!

Are you really happy to compare your "star" with a 40-year old Jagr and 4th-liner in Talbot? And by both ends of the ice, you must mean both ends of the ice bath in the training room.

Inasmuch as saying he's quite obviously better than them, yes I am thrilled to compare. 🙂

You'd think a Flyers fan would be more sympathetic to the real issues around player safety and concussions considering the whole Eric Lindros thing. 🙁 But then again, Philly fans...

I love Talbot by the way, but I am definitely a grinder-type when I play center (more comfortable at D but on the team I'm on, I've somehow got the best hands so I end up at C) so perhaps that's why. I was sad when he left and I think Jordan Staal has been horribly overrated, though this year he's come through okay.

And Malkin is such a euro player, I really can't stand that floaty play style. Though he'll dish out a hard hit if the mood strikes him...more often he's just gonna come up and swing at the puck all halfass if he's even anywhere near the defensive end at all. But he scores goals so there's a place for him too, I GUESS!

C'mon, Crosby is one of the biggest crybabies in the game. I love hockey because of the physicality and mutual respect shown by the players that is virtually non-existent in other sports. But Cindy has always cried about tough hits on him. I even remember he crying about how the announcers should have told the fans over the PA to stop throwing hats after an Ovechkin hat trick. Lets just say he's earned his reputation.

Lindros was soft. You're better using Pronger as a reference to my blatant hypocrisy. My kinda player. 👍

And Jagr seems every bit as much of a "Euro style player" as Malkin, no? They're both fun to watch. Hockey players are the best athletes in the world. Put a basketball or football player on ice skates and let them beat the crap out of one another for 60 minutes and we'll see how they fare. I love that you play hockey. 🙂 There's my compliment for the day. Don't get used to such kindness. After all, I'm a Philly-born hooligan. Have a nice Sunday.

I love hockey because it is fast and requires a lot of skill. The physical aspect is important, but only to me to the point where it needs to be - a well placed check takes more skill than brute strength and I love that. I was able to play checking hockey through high school despite being a good deal smaller than the guys because of my checking technique (and a low center of gravity always helps too )

Yeah, Jagr is totally a euro player. That's why I didn't really care that much about him leaving the first time or going to the Flyers this time. That type of player will always do that! 😉

Thanks for the compliment. I talk trash sometimes, but to be honest I don't go out of my way to follow the pro game that much, just occasionally attend or watch Pens games and watch highlights from players I like who aren't on the Pens. I wasn't too terribly thrilled about a lot of the rules they have added to the game since the lockout and I hate Gary Bettman with the fire of a thousand suns. :meanie:

I just wish more people were into watching hockey and appreciated the sport. Unfortunately, most Americans are more infatuated with the whiny, loud prima donnas of the NBA and NFL. Oh well, their loss.

So I'm not gonna lie, I had a dream that I got an e-mail from Davis about admissions and when I went to see if I got in or not... I woke up. And there's still a few more weeks!! Curse you waiting game!!

My coworker dreamt I got into Davis and left my job point blank. And she was sad and upset and I called her up and laughed maniacally at her.

Pretty odd.

We could very well hear from Western this week. And Davis a week or two after. I have made peace with the process. Namaste.

This thread has been hijacked!!!! 😱

This thread has been hijacked!!!! 😱

How can it be hijacked when my very next post was about the Davis decisions timeline? If anything, I hijacked a thread that was going nowhere at the time for a couple minutes to talk hockey with another forum member and then let the hostage go just as quickly and moved on. Now what is your motivation!! 😱😱

Greetings from the land of freedom

I'd like to announce that it IFMSA-Egypt SCOPH Exchange2012 application is available now through this following link

😍 you're too nice.

I'm taking refuge anywhere - including The Lounge 😱

What!!! I went and checked out this Lounge you speak of. What a bunch of degenerates! Hope you hear good news this week. For your sake!! 😎

See what happens when you hockey hijack? Now it's been hijacked by Egyptian pirates. Thanks for tarnishing this beautiful thread....

I'm off to Egypt, the Land of Freedom (TM), as we speak. Tell Davis I'll be in touch when I get the chance...

actually the egyptian pirate came about when we stopped talking about hockey. lesson learned.

Haha I glazed over those posts but if it will stop the Egyptian pirate I'll welcome them back with open arms.

The real question is why Egyptian pirates target the UC Davis thread and not all others? Are those involved with this thread perceived as more sympathetic to the spread of hepatitis in Egypt? Or just more gullible? And what is the connection here between hockey and pirates? And is it true that all SDN members that interviewed at Davis last year were eventually accepted?? 😱

I'm pretty sure we were just the easy target, since this thread has apparently already gone to hell...And the Flyers?

HEY!! Some of us have yet to interview, and are stressing out big time! It doesn't help when I see this thread bumped only to discover non-admissions related stuff. STOP TALKING ABOUT HOCKEY ON THIS THREAD OR I WILL COME FIND YOU AND CUT YOUR HAIR OFF IN YOUR SLEEP!!

smiley face...sort of

Flyers have won 5 of their last 6. And more importantly, they are finally getting solid production out of their $51 million off-season goalie acquisition. Hopefully the team can get healthy for the post-season run. Only thing better than NHL hockey is NHL hockey playoffs. :woot:

What type of admissions stuff would you like to see discussed here? I can share with you how scary the whole interview process was instead or the horrible quality of food that's available at the Scrub's on-campus cafe instead? :roflcopter:

My sandwich was so bland...definitely going for the burrito bar next time...if there is a next time. Eeeep.

When I was there the lady serving at the burrito bar was giving the dude ordering a lecture about how he can't choose more than one salsa. It may be ok to say you want all of the salsas elsewhere but it is totally unacceptable (aka you're an a-hole) if you ask for all three here at scrubs. ?!?! I opted for the sandwich bar after that.

A friend of mine ordered the veggie rice bowl from the deli counter. You would think that the good folks that run that joint would deal with at least a few vegans and vegetarians and understand how difficult it can be to get a nutritious, satisfying meal without meat. The meal arrives and consists of a bowl full of rice, a couple pieces of broccoli and perhaps some carrots. The friends complains and requests that they toss a few more leafy stalks into the dish. Surprisingly, the woman refuses and explains that the veggies and everything else at the shop are set portions and cannot be modified!!! One might think that with the amount of debt these poor students are committing to, the cafe folks could be slightly more considerate and sympathetic. So much for customer service. Maybe we should create a thread to investigate the food service options available to DVM students at various campuses across the country and world. Should be one of the few surveys which finds Davis languishing near the bottom I would think. 😆:eyebrow:

Hahaha my student mentor was like "errr let's just not go to scrubs. " We ended up getting coffee somewhere near the old vet school building (took a picture of my vet's composite. Hilarious) and the guy at the counter was SO nice. It's just Scrubs being mean.

The Silo is way expensive, but you can get Carl's Jr. there. You also have to deal with the undergrad crowd, which can be tiring.

Love UC Davis....Scrubs.....not to much. I wish they could get some food trucks like the main campus 🙂

the actual manager of scrubs is super nice - as for the rest of the staff....I've had a few altercations. We'll just leave it at that.

Yeah. I give them as little as my money as possible. They aren't run by the vet school, though - it's run by main campus mostly.

I don't even know where the silo is.....I normally jsut bring my own food or go off-campus. Chipotle. YUM

Won't sway my decision on where to attend, anyway. Just trying to provide some entertainment for those non-hockey fans still waiting to interview. 😀

With that said, if I do get the opportunity to attend UC-Davis, I imagine that I will avoid as many meals at that cafeteria as possible. Chipotle sounds nice. And I'm sure I will figure out a few other food options to keep me going through the day. And why does everyone pick on undergrads? Weren't we once in their shoes? I, personally am looking forward to breaking off a few keg stands with the local co-eds.

You could always eat on main campus at the CoHo (inside the MU). It has pretty good food, a coffee shop inside, and was completely remodeled. Definitely better than Scrubs.

Is that a walkable distance for the time afforded throughout one's day (new curriculum, of course 😉)?? Or do I need a bike or hovercraft available?

You could walk there, that would take a while... maybe 20-25 minutes. You could take the bus... walk to the H linen take it to the silo and then walk from the Silo to the MU which is ~5-10 minutes, depending how fast you walk. Both of these are very inconvenient ways haha.

Biking is best, quick, and easy. Biking to the MU would not take very long. Biking to the Silo would be even closer if you want fast food (carls jr, taco bell, pizza hut) or the food cart right outside of it.. I would suggest biking, its the best way to get around Davis.

I talked about hockey for at least 1/4 of my interview. Take that to the bank. 😡

The second. Getting rejected is not a nice thing to tease people about, you know? Philly fans.....

During the first interview I was too busy trying to determine if there was any way that I could escape out of the little tiny window in the interview room while they were all looking down at their laptops or something.

 I felt the same way when one of the interrogators somehow plucked the one class that I mentioned I was planning to schedule in my VMCAS app and then wound up not taking for various reasons out of my file and inquired how it went. I was caught off guard and rambled incoherently. I hadn't even submitted a transcript that included the course. I've taken so many classes and am a mostly A-student. Why couldn't they ask me about any of those instead? These people are good!!!

Us Philly fans are not too bright. Clearly, I should not be teasing about such things. Especially since I am awaiting a decision on my own fate. Still, I only tease because we all know that you succeeded in conning your way in the following year. :highfive:

Perhaps this is why the interview rooms at OSU have no windows. Lost too many good applicants...

So, just watched a lecturer write on slides using an external tablet with a Mac. It was incredibly awkward and obvious that she was writing "blind". Do current students with the Mac ever use a tablet or just type notes? Is the iPad better, and can you use a stylus with it?

To each their own. I don't think anyone with a mac in our class uses a tablet. A couple people use a stylus on an ipad.

Most of us just takes notes by typing and using the draw tool in Skim. Hasn't been a problem at all.....

Thanks, I appreciate your answer. I really want a Mac, and this was the first time I have seen someone annotate a powerpoint as she was lecturing. I think typing would have been much less unwieldy.
I am sure once acceptances go out everyone is going to have tons more questions.
