I just checked last years thread and the acceptances sent out in May were all sent by U(S?)PS 2nd day since they want to get the acceptance news out quickly, but they were in no hurry to send out the rejections/waitlists, so it might be bad news for us 5/6ers who haven't received our decisions yet. . . but then again the ones last year were sent around 5/15 . . . I know this is all speculation, but I'm really nervous with nothing better to do..

I interviewed all the back in feb... and still no decision for me... wut the hell is going on here...

Tritonpower or Zeephro, when was your status page updated? Did it show right after May 6th? or not until pretty recently? I'm just really paranoid that I'll get rejected. Thanks.

it was updated on the 7th of may. Nothing to do but cross your fingers and hope for the best. at least mine was.

I just checked my status page. Still nothing...and the waiting goes on!

Hey guys, . . . this is my first post, but I just checked my status page and it says that final decision letter was sent out on 5/6! I interviewed around mar. 15? mar. 17? Somewhere around there. I'm so nervous, but I'm hoping for the best.

did you get your letter; ive been running to the mail box everyday. still not here

Just talked to admissions office. The waitlist won't start moving until the first week of June, because that's when they'll finally know how many people have dropped their acceptances.
So for those of us on the waitlist, it'll be a while...

CaliBoy said:
Good luck to those of you on the wait lists!! I can tell you that there are probably 20-30 people in my class that were accepted off the waitlist if that gives you some idea. Also, don't expect to see any movement until May 15 because people are squatting acceptances so the class is currently "full," but as you know the class will definitely NOT be full come May 15 (as is the case at most med schools). Also, movement on the waitlist is active throughout the summer as people's plans change, and people have been known to be accepted at UCLA well into July and even August. In fact, a friend of mine was accepted DURING orientation week and moved down to LA from the bay area in a day's notice. Needless to say, it's unpredictable but definitely worth keeping your hopes up.

I don't know anything about the two-tiered waitlist, unfortunately. But logically they wouldn't have two lists if one of them was never used.

IMHO a letter of intent could either help you or do nothing, so if it makes you feel better, go for it. I'd be weary of sending multiple LOIs to multiple schools-- probably not a problem, but why risk it?

Do you know if anyone in your class got off of the hold list and how they went about getting off of the list. Would you recommend sending a letter of intent to the dean of admissions as well.

Who knows when I will get a response. I was told I was the last student interviewed for the fall class and I interviewed on the 29th of April. I hope I know before the beginning of June... So from another thread, it seems as if there are 2 waitlists? Which one is higher and how many students are put on each? Thanks!

It seems like the Tier 1 waitlist is called "Unranked Waitlist" in the decision letter. Rumor has it that 100 people or so are on it. Tier 2 waitlist will be specifically mentioned in the decision letter.

Which one has more movement and better to be on?

The answer is obvious 😉

Tier 1 is always higher than Tier 2

So has anybody heard anything from UCLA lately? It's been awfully quiet. Any recent acceptances/waitlists? My friend had his final letter sent 5/14/04 since his interview in early March. I wonder if that's a good thing? How about the one SDNer who interviewed back in February...did you receive any updates yet?

You may wanna call and insist on them checking up the status of your application. I can't imagine that a decision will take this long!

as much as i like USC, if UCLA accepts me it's gonna be too hard to turn down so i'm probably gonna end up going there.

I haven't gotten anything either kwanny. Interviewed last week of March.

YAY!!! So it's Geffen over Keck, right?

i guess so! they're both great schools though... but the fact that UCLA has a cheaper pricetag does make it a little easier to decide 😉

Hi... Did you get your acceptance letter two day priority mail? I interviewed on the last day of interviews the 29th of April and had my final decision letter sent to me today... Does anyone know if everyone interviewed is put on the waitlist or are people getting rejected? My turnaround was only 2.5 weeks. Yikes! I hope it is not a rejection!

they sent it on friday, and i got it on monday... so yeah that's probably 2-day priority mail.

So has anybody received their financial aid package yet? Or does anybody know when we will receive them? Thanks.

Hey guys,

just a quick question about the housing at Weyburn Terrace. (i thought I started a thread about this a few min ago, but it didn't show up...well, i apologize if it does later for posting too many things about this housing thing). anyway, i called the weyburn terrace housing people today and was told that we will have to fill out an application, pay $30 fee, and apply like everybody else and will not have priority, meaning we'll be on the waitlist. they will begin to offer spaces out to those with an application some time in June so that it'll be set for the june 15th move-in. this is incredibly strange to me since the dean said at the 2nd look weekend that we would be guaranteed housing and that we don't haev to do anything until the housing office contacts us. from what i gathered from the conversation with the lady at the housing office today, they won't contact us and we will not have any guaranteed anything because "there are a lot of other students at other departments with priorities that have already signed up for housing at Weyburn terrace" (that's exactly what she said). now, i'm not sure how competent this lady was and if she knew anything about what the dean has worked out with the houisng people, but i can't help but be a bit confused and annoyed.

so what is it that we have to do?!? can anyone shed some light on this, please?

any info would be much appreciated!

thanks!
😕

are you sure that your information might be for the spots that are leftover after the people with priority are already taken into account for?

i specifically mentioned and repeated several times what the dean said, that entering medical students should have priority at the new building. she replied, "as far as i know, everyone has to fill out an application and wait. the housing office will offer spaces out to people who have an application." she seemed to make it clear that entering med students don't have any priority or anything.

sorry, but i'm just panicking a little bit about this since i don't know what I should do now. i called the admissions office a few weeks back and they said the housing people should contact entering med students in early may about our apartments and now the housing people said they don't know anything about it. what's going on?!? :scared: 🙁

yeah, i spoke to a secretary in the med admissions office who told me, if we sign up, we're guaranteed housing in weyburn.

well this just sounds like a lack of communication between the med school and the people running housing. that is all. nothing you need to worry about.

Although the guarantee of spot for med student is an informal verbal promise, I do believe the med school has enough influence to tell the housing office to reserve spots for incoming med students.

One thing I know for sure is that you DO need to apply for housing online. It's something you can do in like 5 minutes, but you need to pay $30. Also, you don't really indicate which apt complex you want in the apt (Weyburn, Rose, or other apt complexes), but you get to choose what type of apt you prefer (studios, two-bedrooms, etc.).

I did this a few months back, but here's the link. You need a student ID# and PIN to apply (Mailed to you in a letter together with the intention to register form):
http://www.housing.ucla.edu/myhousing/index.html

Hey CalBeE, I agree that we do need to apply online and they will take care of the rest. I hope they will put us in Weyburn. Thanks 😎

Smile'n'Wink MD said:
CalBee, so are you saying waitlisters should also apply for housing?
You need a student ID# and PIN to apply for housing. If you're UCLA undergrad, it'll be the same ID#. HOwever, if you're not, you probably won't get a number from the admissions office until you're accepted.

Thank you CalBeE for your tips. Here's what I now know and have done. The Admissions Office or Housing Office should make it clear to us that we have to apply for housing by ourselves, rather than telling us that everythign will be taken care of and then having us running around in circles, screaming and panicking. Well, I guess it's my responsibility after all. Anyway, I used my new student ID and PIN to apply for housing on http://www.housing.ucla.edu/myhousing and if you enter it correctly, that you're a Graduate level student, and that your "major/dept" is Medicine, you should be able pick the type of apt you want to apply to, enter the roommate preferences, and the only choice they gave in terms of which building is Weyburn Terrace. I guess the dean was right, afterall, that they will try to keep us med students together...(for better or for worse)

thanks again everyone! 🙂

Actually Dean Parker did mention it briefly the online application very briefly during 2nd look weekend. I caught it b/c I already knew about it beforehand...but I doubt other people would have caught it. The instructions may be in the handout but I'm not sure.

This seems to be very characteristics of UCLA's atmosphere--you have to find out things on your own all the time...I mean you can always call different places and ask, but you don't always get a straight answer. I think I got used to it after 5 years of being here.

For those of you who are accepted, you may have got an email from Shelley Pearson about student health insurance. If you weren't a UCLA student before, you may not be familiar with the (weird) way it works.

YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY ENROLLED IN UCLA'S GSHIP (Graduate Student Health Insurance Program), I believe--at least that's how they do it for undergrads. Apparently the annual rate is $900+ now.

If you have health insurance elsewhere, and want to waive out of GSHIP, you have to specifically request the Student Health Center to waive it EVERY TERM YOU ARE ENROLLED (I.E. you have to do it for each Fall and Spring semester of all 4 years). You do it online at www.studenthealth.ucla.edu before a certain date for each term.

The new insurance carrier is Blue Cross this coming school year. There is no deductible anymore, but there's co-payment for a lot of stuff...a good change for those who only use the services occasionally.

On the housing application, what date should we put that we want the apartment or studio? Or does it matter for med students? Maybe they will give them to all of us on the same day? Does anyone know? I suppose we need housing by orientation.

the only choice they gave in terms of which building is Weyburn Terrace. I guess the dean was right, afterall, that they will try to keep us med students together...(for better or for worse)

Thats super cool. 😎 Hey UCLAgirl, do you know when can we start moving in?

I would say at least a week of two before the orientation week, which starts on 8/2... may be earlier. I want to settle down and explore the S Calif, checking out the beaches..... before the class start. May be we should all get together for a big party ........I can't waite... Any suggestions? Where are you Dominic? 🙂 🙂

They must have changed the application since I applied (Back in March). But that's good cause now you indicate which apt complex you want.

I indicated my move-in date as July 1, but I have my current apt (3-4 blocks north of Weyburn Terrace) up to Mid or end of July. I probably won't move in until late on in July.

I GOT IN!

I checked my status page and a letter was sent out yesterday! I called the Office of Admissions and Deanna told me "Congratulations!"

I can't believe it. Still can't.

So... what's this about housing? 😀

so, about the move-in date. according to my conversation with that strange lady at the housing office who didn't seem to know what was really going on, in terms of entering med students having priority at weyburn, so please take this with a grain of salt, she said "we will be complete with Phase I (whatever that means) and have set a first move-in date to be June 15 and a second move-in date to be sept 15" . me "med students orientation is in aug and school starts right after, so i guess we have to move in before sept 15". Her "our first move-in date is tentatively set for june 15". me, "our orientation is in aug (our conversation pretty much goes around and around and emphasizing the same point). i hope we don't have to pay for that month in between june 15 and aug 2". Her "i'm not sure what they have decided, but I guess you won't have to pay". Me "so when do we get to look at our apt so we can start buying furnitures". Her "our first move-in date is june 15". me, thinking to myself "really? when is the first move-in date again? 🙄 "

but what i did get from that conversation, besides our first move-in date, is that right now they are not done building it yet. well, if someone has a little more patience than me, they can go and check with the housing office again.
