I hope you feel better but be optimistic. I'm sure your interviewers will be understanding since you're under the weather. I hope so. Good luck to you and everyone interviewing Friday!

If you're coming from out of town, be prepared for some CHILLY SF weather...it's been freezing all week!

Highs have been in the 40s (which is &%$* FREEZING for SF) and it's supposed to rain all weekend. Bring your raincoat--and wear layers if you can.

Good luck to everyone who has interviews this weekend! Mine's coming up on the 7th. 🙂

Is it ok for us to have a coat and an umbrella with us while interviewing? I was thinking about not bringing umbrella to the interview since my friend's going to be dropping me off at UCSF... and figured it might be a hassle to carry umbrella around.. ?

i brought my umbrella last yr when i interviewed. it's not going to be bothersome.

and good luck. it's not going to be as tough as you guys think. be yourself and you guys will do great!

First interview... mission accomplished!

Wow... it was better than I expected. Well... I dont want to jinx myself, but let's hope for the best!

The interview was chill, although I have to say the student asking me questions was tough... very intense. They asked me a lot of questions, and I remember being stuck on one. But they were good and gave me plenty of positive feedback. I don't think i was nervous (for most of the time). My experience at UCSF was by far more positive than at the USC interview.

=)

Hey, congrats! It must feel good to have it over with. I'm sure you did well, if you were confident I bet it showed that you were well-prepared. So do you interview with the faculty and student at the same time at UCSF? I thought I remembered hearing that, but then I got confused with UOP (where they are separate). How long did the interview(s) take? Did they say how long it would be before you can expect to hear from them? Was the day pretty well organized? I wouldn't really expect any less from UCSF...but still. Glad you had such a positive experience, it makes me feel a little less nervous about mine! 🙂

Congrats on completing your interview. You must be so relieved. My interview is coming up this week and I am very anxious. I am excited for the interview, but at the same time, my stomach is turning. When you say that the questions that they asked were tough, what it exactly do you mean? Were these the pharmacy situation problems or did where they general questions that required deep thought?

I am sure that you did wonderful at your interview. I am preparing for the interview by reading my application daily, reading pharmacy journals and basically talking to myself and those around me. At the end of the day, I hope that this interview will allow UCSF to get an accurate perception of my personality. If they do, I will be happy!

To the UCSF pharmacy students, I just want to say thank you for all your help. I tend not to post very much in this forum because I find SDN addicting. LOL. However, I do read all your posts and I just want to tell you guys that you are all so great. You guys are very encouraging and are always there to answer our questions. Thank You and hopefully i will get to meet some of you next week!

Good Luck to Everyone! I wish you all the best.

Congratulations to everyone who interviewed today! I'm sure you all did a fantastic job.

And it wasn't that bad was it? We don't bite. 🙂

Boy... do I feel relieved. You won't believe what happened this week before my interview. So i got sick this week (note: I get sick usually once or twice a year). It rained like crazy, my flight to SFO got canceled at the last minute so I had to change flights frantically, my luggage got lost as I arrived in SF, the driver of the SuperShuttle was incredibly rude, aggressive, and crazy driver (which almost got me killed on the highway), and on top of it I had to pay Southwest Airlines to drop off my luggage (they should be paying me). so yeah... at least it's all over.

The paper said my interview was supposed to start at 2:30PM, but we didn't actually begin until 3.00. They split the groups in colors (blue and green). The colors sort of determined whether you would interview first and then write the essay, or vice versa. I was the last one to interview... so the entire process seemed a little lengthy to me.

I was impressed to see how organized the whole process was. The students were very helpful and professional, and the faculty definetely very friendly. The other people interviewing looked very sharp and professional. Sadly I was surrounded by ucla students. Go figure... haha.

They told us we could expect answers as early as Mid Feb, but most acceptance letters dont come until march or april. so yeah. I really hoping for the best out of my interview.

Good luck you guys! Piece of advice... call your airline the day or few hours before to make sure your flight doesnt get cancelled too (rain makes everything unpredictable). It will save you a whole lot of grief. Oh... and eat plenty of vitamins!

Hey everyone,

Which hotel/motel did you end up staying at? I am trying to find a decent place and it's pretty difficult. I am contemplating whether to stay near campus or to stay in union square and take a cab... What did you guys do???

Or the people who will be travelling for later interview dates, which hotels do you intend on staying? Thanks for your input!

I'm staying at the Best Western Hotel Tomo. It's in J-town and it isn't busy at all. $99.

Congrats to those of you who are done with your interviews!
Can you guys say anything about the essay part? Were the prompts health related?

Sorry to hear about your crazy experience getting there! But glad to hear that once you got there people were friendly. Kind of makes up for the shuttle driver?? 😉 Anyway, thanks for all the info! And I'm definitely calling SW on Thursday...

Hi there,

I had my interview on Friday. I think it went pretty well. It really wasn't as scary as I expected. Everyone was really nice.

One word of advice for future interviewers: bring some kind of food/snack with you. The snacks provided were really not sufficient and you get really hungry after being there for 4-5 hours.

Also, if anyone is looking for a hotel, I stayed at the Grand Hyatt on Stockton St. in Union Square. It was comfortable and clean. I would recommend it. It was easy to get to the hotel from the airport because it was walking distance to the Powell St. BART station. I took a taxi to the interview (which cost about $15 each way). It took a while to get a taxi on the way back. I would suggest going into the hospital and calling a taxi.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck to everyone.

Hey everyone! I took a shuttle from SFO ($16/way) and stayed at the Carl Hotel. It really felt like a motel room, by no means nice or fancy, but it was $79/night and 4 blocks from campus (or 1 stop on the N-Judah muni that stops right in front of the hotel). Nice staff, close and convenient, but really noisy b/c of the muni which runs late into the night and bright and early the next morning! If you do plan to stay there, make sure to stay in the upper floors, away from all the street noise.

The interview process was really organized: short welcome session (30 min), financial aid session (30 min), interview (2-on-1, 45 min), essay (45 min), Q&A with current students, campus tour. The whole process was probably ~5 hours. I don't think I did so well on the interview, but I've got to admit that it was much more relaxed and conversational than I anticipated, mainly b/c the student interviewer was friendly. Most of the questions were specific to my essays and ECs, but I was really nervous so I didn't think or speak as clearly as I could/should have. The Q&A session afterwards was a little quiet b/c not that many questions were asked, but the current students were all really welcoming and helpful.

As others have mentioned earlier, the weather was pretty tough; it rained nonstop Friday. So bring your umbrellas and check your flights...my flight was delayed 3+ hours (I'm so glad it wasn't cancelled!). Good luck everyone!

ExpressMail, Which form of transportation did you use to get to the school? How was the noise level? Thanks for your help!

I drove to San Fran and drove from the hotel to the campus. There is 0 noise because that area of Japanese town is silent. There is public transportation within walking distance from the hotel.

**I did not attend my interview yet; sorry for the confusion. This information was from attending the workshop last year. **

does anyone want to share how their interview went? I have mine on Feb 8th!😳

Yes I am! WIll i be seeing you there? I am so nervous but I am also very excited.

I hope all you guys are doing okay. Lets all stay hopeful and think of positive thoughts. At the end of the day, we can only really give it our everything and hope for the best!

Good Luck Guys

Does anyone know how far Stanyon Park Hotel is from UCSF? The hotel says it is 8 blocks. I am wondering if this will be a far walk and if I should take a cab?
Any ideas would be appreciated!!!

Yes, you will! So far from this thread there's quite a few of us on that day (Jesheekah, dt30, you, me...am i forgetting someone?)! And senzabee and Zwigglez will be in the discussion rooms..so we can meet them in person too! I'm pretty nervous, but like you said...positive thinking is key! 🙂 Good luck!!

I'll also be interviewing on the 2nd. I was planning on walking to the campus but is the area expecting rain that day? Hasn't it been raining there lately?

Also, for those of you who have interviewed, if I showed up in a dress shirt, tie, and dress pants, would I be out of place? Have most showed up with suit jackets on to?

Hi FredDurst (love the nick name btw)

I live in Davis, which is about 1 hour away from SF and it is raining here. Unfortunately at this time of year, RAIN is almost inevitable around this area. My mom lives in San Diego I went to high school there. Unfortunately, SF does not share the San Diego's lovely weather. More than likely it will be raining so I would advise you to bring an umbrella. 🙂 Im pretty scared because i have a white blazer and Im worried that it might get dirty very easily from rain residue/mud. I guess im just gonna have to use my umbrella as a shield lol. *wishful thinking lol*

Good Luck and Looking forward to meeting all you guys SOON!

The walk shouldn't take you more than 10-15 minutes max. If you're not used to walking hills, just walk down Stanyan until you hit Cole, then go right on Cole until it turns to Irving and you hit the parking garage. Go into the Arguello/Irving entrance (where they do MRIs and CTs), and take the elevator all the way up to Parnassus, then cross the street to get to 513 Parnassus. If you can handle hills, just go right on Parnassus, but your legs will get a workout (and at least your ass will look good LOL).

Depending on your interview time, you might be able to hitch a ride on the Pink shuttle that stops at the parking lots on Kezar across the street from the hotel, but that shuttle only runs during the morning (from 7-9 AM). You can also just take the N-Judah on Cole if it's raining really badly.

Thanks for the Advice! My interview is at 8:30am so hopefully ill be able to catch the shuttle. If not, I think I can handle the workout and contribute to my "buns of steel." LOL. A little walk will help me clear my head!

See You guys Soon!😀

i have mine on the 8th as well :scared: soooo nervous. i have midwestern on the 6th so i'm flying straight there after that interview...hopefully there won't be any delays cuz of weather...

I interviewed friday morning. Everyone was nice but so nervous...

and with good reason. It's the top school in the country. They are interviewing 400+ people. There are rougly 100 spots figuring some go to out-of-staters. If you get past your anxiety, you'll find it to be a really easy-going process.
I wish all you with future interviews the best of luck. Of course by luck, I mean I hope you get a friendly and welcoming faculty and student interviewer. I hear some of them take the process very seriously. After all, it is number one.

p.s. nice meeting you all at the interview, friday morning crew. We all managed to beat the rain and make it on time!

It has been raining lately, or at the very least has been very cold. If you brought a coat, that wouldn't be a problem at all. And about your suit jacket, most applicants show up in a full-on suit, complete with jacket, fyi. Good luck!

they said they are interviewing 370 ppl this year. just wanted to point that out...

Good luck to all those interviewing at UCSF. As a previous poster said, just be yourself. Express yourself clearly during the interview and you'll be fine! 👍

Hi Guys

It is 1:53am on Friday Feb 1st. My interview is tomorow, Saturday at 8:30am. Today started of bad because Stanyard Park Hotel called and canceled on me. I was quite upset but then they informed me that there was an ill patient who was frequenting the medical center for treatment and needed to stay another night in the room that I had originally been assigned. So I am not mad anymore. Fortunately, I found another hotel so as of today, I am staying at the INN 1890.

Anyways, I just wanted to wish everyone Good LUCK for their interview.
After reading pharmacy journals, talking to myself in the mirror and spending time to think of creative ways to truly reflect my personality to the interviewers, I have come to the conclusion that there is REALLY nothing more that I can do but TRY MY BEST and BE MYSELF!

We have all worked hard to get to where we are today and I just want to say that from the bottom of my heart, GOOD LUCK and I HOPE YOU ALL SHINE!

I am really looking forward to meeting everyone.

See You SOON!

Yes I agree, be yourself. Well, be the best version of yourself that you can be 😛

Hey Guys

I just wanted to say that it was great meeting all of you on saturday. I had the morning session. Everyone was so friendly and outgoing. UCSF was so great. They didn't make u feel intimidated. My interviewers were amazing. They made me feel at ease and I really appreciated that. Before I entered the interview room, my heart was pounding at about a 180 beats per minute. However, once I got into the interview room (which happened to be a nursing lecture hall -kinda scary) I calmed down because the interviewers were so friendly. I feel like I could have answered a few of my questions better but my nerves got the best of me at the beginning. However, towards the end of the interview, I think I did better than the beginning.

Anyways... Good LUck to those who will be interviewing soon.

To the UCSF students who I met, THANKS for being so friendly. You guys really helped me calm down.

Hey DavisAggie! It was great to meet you too! I agree with everything you said, it was such a relaxed atmosphere and everyone there was so friendly! I was so much happier with the way this interview went for me than my other one. Hopefully that means we will get those precious acceptance letters in a month or two (although that seems so far away!).

My interviewers were also quite friendly, and although I tripped up on my words a little at the beginning, I think I settled into the interview and loosened up a bit pretty quickly. I feel like they got a good picture of me as an applicant, so hopefully what I want (an acceptance!) and what they want will coincide! 🙂

For everyone else who is interviewing there: Definitely don't be nervous, the whole process is very well organized and not stressful at all. Just show your personality, I feel like that's what they wanted to hear about during my interview. Good luck!

did they happen to say when they will be making their decisions and sending out acceptance letters?

I have an interview on feb 8th, but the crappy thing is that my interview is at 2:30pm and hotel check out is at 11:00am. Anyone know an area around the school that I could go and relax before the interview? I don't really want to be wandering around SF trying to find something to do to waste time (plus I don't want to drive to far from the school in case of traffic!) Any shopping areas, etc? I looked online and fisherman's wharf is close but last time I went there I was stuck in traffic for 45min when I was leaving the area!!

any ideas?

You could hang out on campus, in Milberry Union's food court, or check out the library with the most comfortable chairs on the planet, which has a great view of the Golden Gate when the weather's nice (like now). I can't sit in those chairs because I'll end up crashing for a couple of hours.

There's also Golden Gate Park, Haight Ashbury, Inner Sunset, Twin Peaks with gorgeous views of downtown SF, all of which are very close by.

To answer your first question, they said that some applicants would receive acceptances as early as the beginning of March, but that most people would hear around April 1st. Good luck on your interview! Don't be nervous, it's a well-organized but relaxed day. 🙂

Congratulations to all of you who have interviewed so far! Especially having to brave all the rain, considering the nasty weather we'd been having. (The sun finally came out today!! Yay!) Now comes what I thought was the hardest part...the WAITING!!!

And for those who have their interviews still coming up in the next few weeks, the best of luck to you! Perhaps I'll see some of you around.

As for being nervous, don't worry too much about it. I think I'd be a little bit more worried if you weren't at all nervous, if you know what I mean. And even if the nerves do get the best of you at the beginning, we really do understand so we try to put you at ease as much as we can.

One more thing, make sure to review your application, especially the essays and the part on the extracurriculars you've participated in! Anything written on them is fair game to ask about. 🙂

Thanks for the advice. Do you know when would be the earliest that we would hear back from UCSF? I thought Joel said that we could hear back as soon as mid febuary, but I may be wrong since Cal687 mentioned that she thought that early march would be the earliest.

Hmm, maybe I'm wrong about that one. I thought Joel said that some people would hear within a month, and everyone else would hear ~4/1. But I was talking to one of the other applicants who interviewed Saturday (she's in my anatomy class!) and she said one of her friends heard from them 2 weeks after his interview! That was last year though, I think. Anyway, it would be awesome to hear sooner, as long as it's good news! 😀

Hey all,

I was just wondering if any one knew if the interviewers look at your PharmCAS essay beforehand as well, and if they ask any questions from that essay in addition to the supplemental. My interview is this friday and as it's drawing nearer I can feel my nerves spike up! Congrats to the people who are all done interviewing, and good luck to everyone who is still waiting to interview!
