OOS interview invite. Congrats all!

July.

(no but seriously our weather is kind of unpredictable, you don't have a chance of more/less snow with one interview week vs another)
Thank you for your input. My father literally gave me the same answer.

Didn't get the chance to check SDN the last few days and I just found the OOS interview invite sitting in the "promotions" tab of my Gmail from yesterday! 😱
Best surprise "spam" ever 😍
YAY YAY YAYY!! :smuggrin::smug:

In state interview! Anyone know how many in-state interview offers are extended?

Did anyone manage to find stats from previous classes of # of people interviewed vs. # of people accepted? Would love to know some %'s going in. 🙂

Honestly don't remember, but day of you can kind of do some pseudo math by figuring out how many people are interviewing that day x # of interview days. OOS vs IS seats are like 45 OOS to 55 IS (roughly). So if there are 30 people interviewing that day and 3 interview days for IS your odds would be about 55/90 at that point. Again, not perfect, but I somewhat recall attempting that math when I interviewed there.

Statistics if you haven't seen those. Don't discuss how maby interviews are given but shows total pool and numbers accepted.

I am fairly certain I've posted some general numbers in the past. Note that it is different for OOS vs IS. You can search previous similar threads for my posts.

Sorry I can't give you a direct link. I don't have the time to go find the info.

But honestly - does it really matter? Just put on your game face, show a positive, outgoing, curious, excited attitude, ask questions, and make the most of the interview experience. It's fun for those of us doing the interviews, too! We enjoy meeting you guys, and while it is inherently stressful for you, know that we want you to be at ease, and we're genuinely excited to give you the best chance to shine that we can. We are definitely NOT trying to ask 'gotcha' questions to trip you up or something!

Hahahahahaha. You crack me up, K. I did <exactly> the same math back when I interviewed. "Hmmm... there are this many people here today times this many days of interviews divided by this many seats...."

The math isn't worth it, you psyche yourself out! Here I am round 3 (does my first round really count I legitimately sucked??) and I thought I had it all figured out, obviously not! All you can do is be the best YOU that you have to offer!! Good luck everyone, kill your interviews!!:biglove:

Does anyone know if UMN wants our fall 2017 transcripts sent to them? I can't seem to find it anywhere online.

@PageTurner in the confirmation email I received back in October it states the following “College transcripts reflecting completed fall 2017 coursework are not required, and we prefer not to receive them directly” and in the interview email they just say “fall transcripts are not required at this time”...they only require that those offered admission send transcripts if they completed prerequisite courses in fall and/or spring.

Thanks!

Did anyone get a "confirmation" email once you signed up for your interviews? Those sign-up surveys always make me nervous

I'm not sure you get one. I remember frantically emailing Violeta to make sure mine had gone through because I didn't get anything like a confirmation email.

Thanks! I kinda figured we didn't since I went digging through my email some and didn't find anything. I'm just being paranoid (story of our lives right now though, right?).

I emailed them yesterday cause my internet was being funny when I submitted it the other week. They said they received it so I wouldn't worry.

I really am getting frustrated with the whole rejections... I got mine a week ago again. School #3 :/ Just waiting to hear from KSU yet! Good luck to everyone interviewing!

How many schools did you apply to? I applied to 10 basically to see what would stick ya know?

I applied to 6 or 7 schools the first time I applied and didn't get in anywhere. Keep your chin up and do file reviews if you end up not getting in, it's not the end of the world and doesn't mean you won't be a great vet some day!!

I know it's super hard not to be nervous - but don't worry about it. They have never been great about sending confirmation when you fill out those kind of things, and I remember how stressful that felt as an applicant, but I also personally know the people working there - it's not the kind of situation where if you submitted and something went wrong with the web form you'd be screwed. They'd call you to figure out what was going on and they'd make it work. They're good people and they care and the vet school is a relatively small school within a huge university, so it's not some sort of bureaucratic nightmare thing. The staff handling the interviews only work with the vet school.

So give them a reasonable amount of time and if you haven't heard, then just give them a quick call to follow-up.

Hello, I'm OOS and got an interview! Maybe it's too early, but I'm trying to budget my travels. Does anyone have advice about cheap lodging?

Has anyone heard back regarding your interview date? I don’t need to reach out to UM if we’re all still waiting, but wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything 🙂

Nothing yet

If I remember correctly, they'll let us know on 1/4!

This might be a dumb question, but if you are taking a couple pre-reqs in the fall/spring would you be able to be offered admission or would it be dependent on how you do those semesters?

So long as you pass you'll be fine. My acceptance back in the day was "conditional" depending on whether or not I passed the 2 pre-reqs I was still taking at the time.

Well I mean they admitted you, so we know the bar was set pretty low back in those days. 😉

That's my point! You'd think they would have learned.

(That idiom always annoys me. I always hear it as a reference to limbo, and I always think "wait! a low bar is a lot harder!")

Some schools have requirements that at least x% of pre-req's be completed at application time. You should be okay with a couple. I'd recommend completing as many as possible so that schools have a more complete picture of you. For example, if you are taking 3 pre-req's in the fall and 2 in the spring and another candidate has already completed all of the pre-reqs, the other candidate is a less risky option for the school. Also important for you to know which schools make decisions based only off what you submitted with VMCAS and which schools wait till you send in your fall transcript and release decisions later in the cycle.

Best of luck!

Just received my interview confirmation! OOS interview on January 26th!

Curious what everyone is doing for interview preparation?

This will be my fifth interview this cycle. Don't get yourself too nervous. Just remember to be yourself. I wrote down some questions on notecards and had my husband interview me with them. Make sure to include ethical questions too, just so they don't throw you for a loop. And if you don't know the answer to something, just be honest with them. I think they appreciate someone who is willing to acknowledge their faults.

Look up behavioral interview questions. Pretty sure they are still into asking those. Practice being able to draw on your own life experiences to answer those types of questions. It can help to look over your resume/application when you practice to draw from those specific experiences.

Received my interview appointment for Jan. 26th at 9:30 am but will be declining invitation. OOS costs are a bit high for me at this point. One acceptance really does change everything.

Everyone is going to do awesome at their interviews! Can't wait till acceptances go out!!

Got my interview confirmation for January 26th at 8:15am (eek so early!) but I will be declining since I got into my in state. Best of luck to you all!

I dunno if I should repost the advice I've given every year or just tell people to go search for it. Getting kinda tired of posting it. But it's solid advice, I think. It's in one of the previous UMN applicants threads.
