UPENN c/o 2022 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
when I interviewed it was one on one, but last year I believe it was one on one conversationally but with someone else also in the room.. @mht2k3 might be able to explain it better from last year

Last year it was basically one on one, but there was also an 'observer' in the room who didn't ask questions and wasn't really active in the conversation.

Good luck to everyone interviewing tomorrow!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

I had one question: does anyone know how to go back and see how we ranked our areas of interest? Like Small, large, mixed, etc. I just want to make sure I remember which I put second...

Thank you!

FYI our classes are cancelled for tomorrow! Not sure how that will affect you guys, but I'd keep an eye out for any emails etc. in case of plan changes.

Why were you classes cancelled? Is there more snow coming?

Has anyone heard anything about if interviews today are cancelled? I can’t get a hold of the admissions department.

If you have an interview today and haven't heard anything about it being canceled, assume that it is still on.

I think it was due to extreme cold. They were expecting -15 with wind chill today.
this is already making me reconsider taking LA block next year... too cold for raf

NBC was planning on staying open! But they close if the philly campus closes. It’s also usually not this cold. They have all said it’s pretty weird this year, and you are inside or in a heated barn 97-100% of the time depending on what classes you take.

my friend who's helping with tours today said interviews are still on

How early have people heard from UPenn after their interview? I know they said as much as 2 weeks but that's so long to wait for that email

Usually you hear back within the week.

Interviewers call their acceptances when they have time, starting as soon as monday. BUT if you don't hear on monday, that could just mean they didn't have time, and might still call later in the week.

I'm pretty sure emails about waitlist/hold are sent out during the following weak as well. Waitlist means you're obviously on the waitlist for acceptance. Hold means they haven't made a decision yet and will review your application/interview again in the following weeks as they hold more interviews.

Not sure about rejections.
Also, they can always change how they do things year to year, so if they told you something specific in your interview, listen to that. This is just how they have done it for the past few years that I've been following along (past 3 years).

Fingers crossed for everyone!!! :xf::xf::xf::xf: I hope you had a nice experience!

Hi thanks!

They say they would email us about accept/deny/hold within 2 weeks so I'm not sure if the phone calls are still happening or not or if they just didn't mention it. They said they wouldn't notify us about moving from hold to waitlist/accept/deny until later in the process after the interviews.

Do you think today was the only day for acceptance calls from the 1/5 Interview day? Or will they hopefully continue throughout the week?

It's at the convenience of the interviewer. So if they aren't free until wednesday, they won't call until wednesday.

Any thoughts on the likelihood of one interviewer making calls over a couple of days? My friend interviewed on the 5th as well with the same interviewer I did, and she got her call today. Trying not to lose hope :nailbiting:

Who did you interview with? If you don't want to post, you're welcome to PM me.

I haven’t heard anything from Penn since I applied and they send the automated response email.

It’s the last school I have to hear from. I have 2 invitations to interview- one I’ve completed and waiting to hear back from and one to be completed later this month. But Penn has been quiet for me. I don’t really know their process. It’s my 2nd time applying to vet school but first time with them.

I haven't heard anything either, but haven't been outright rejected either, seems odd.

If you haven’t gotten a rejection letter, then you are still in the pile of candidates being considered.

Anyone willing to share their interview experience last week? I have mine coming up this Friday.

You don't need to be worried about it, everyone is so friendly and the make it a great environment, the interview was very relaxed and so was the discussions with the students

YAYAYA! Congrats everyone!

I tried to tell you all not to lose hope if your call didn't come on Monday! 🙄

Turns out my friend that I mentioned got a call from a different Penn faculty that she knows, not our interviewer. She says, “Oh yeah, I probably should have specified that.” Like :yeahright:

Anyone receive an interview this week? Specifically large animal folks?

Hey all! (I made a separate thread.....but I should've just posted in here, and I don't know how to delete it, any who lol)

Has anyone heard of UPenn Vet implementing a 4 day week for students where they would have Wednesdays off? I went on a tour back in August and the student leading them said that UPenn was planning on (I think it sounded that concrete) to have Wednesdays off and have a 4 day week for students. She said this was part of a mental health initiative, and that students could choose to stay on campus and work at the library, or go home and study there.

When I called admissions to ask about this they were unfamiliar with what I was talking about, does anyone know if this Wednesday off thing is really in the works or if this was just proposed by the students and was denied?

Thanks!

I haven't received anything yet, starting to lose hope. Does anyone know how to pull up what you put as 1st and 2nd area of interest.

I haven't heard anything about this, but as first years we normally have half days on Thursdays. You have ICVM shifts (either going out to new bolton to do cow/horse physical exams and then LA rounds, or doing a shift in the small animal hospital) but only do those once so you have the rest of the Thursdays off to do as you please. It seems like its a new this year so maybe that is what they were talking about?

I'm interested in small animal, but haven't heard anything whatsoever about an interview or rejection. At this point I'm assuming I'll be rejected soon haha

@Kpizz92 dont lose hope yet! In previous years they have one more interview date the week after the large animal day. Those applicants were notified around January 26th.
