VMCVM c/o 2025!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OOS alternate! I’m thrilled it’s not a no, but still nervous! It was in my junk folder and I almost had a heart attack.

That’s interesting! That was not there last year! Last year they said nothing would change your alternate status into an acceptance except for someone else declining their seat.

Does “please provide any facts that might alter your status as an alternative” mean we can send update on what we are doing?

Actually that line was there last year, so I’ll ask and see if sending fall transcripts and stuff would be helpful.

If we are alternate, do we get notified in spring when people start accepting their seats? Is it possible to be notified earlier? Do some people deny their seat earlier?

Are there many others who haven't received any correspondence? I received a confirmation in September when I sent my application in but I haven't not gotten a rejection, acceptance or an alternate offer.

OOS Alternate! I'm actually really happy with that considering the fact that there were only 40 OOS people accepted out of 1850 applicants (~2% acceptance rate). So to be picked for the waitlist in a sea of over 1850 applications makes me feel more confident about my chances at the other 8 schools I applied to haha

Did you just get the email? Sorry I'm trying to gauge if they are still sending offers/rejections!

Hi! I am new to the SDN and this is my second time applying to vet schools! This time I’ve gotten interviews from Ross, Western and Lincoln Memorial and wait listed at Virginia-Maryland this far. Has anyone heard from Ohio, or Purdue yet? Also when do we hear back after our interviews? I’m getting anxious! Thanks in advance!

I’m in the same boat! I’m is (maryland) but not sure if that makes a different for not hearing yet

There is a potential for hearing something earlier than spring, I'm pretty sure they will start pulling people from the waitlist as soon as seats are turned down. I feel like a lot of people wait until closer to the deadline to formally accept/decline their seats, but some will make that decision sooner if they get another offer they would rather take. For example, the year I was accepted I turned down one school as early as January when I got an offer from a school higher on my list

I'm OOS! Happy I'm not the only one, I wonder if they are emailing one by one? I wonder if we will still hear tonight?

I am IS (Maryland) alternate. In my email, they said “
you were reviewed for acceptance from a very large pool of over 1850 applicants who were academically a competitive pool.” Even though for Maryland residents it was only ~ 165 applicants. Should I be concerned that I was reviewed oos? I don’t know how to confirm that I was IS since vmcas is closed but I had submitted the resident paper work

No, sorry! I just got home from work so I couldn't post on here until now, but all of the emails (accepted, rejected, alternate) went out around 3!

Since you're an IS alternate I'd assume you were evaluated for in-state. They sent the same email to all alternate applicants, and 1850 is the total number of people who applied, not just IS or OOS.

Granted I can't say much about what things look like right now, but I interviewed at Lincoln for the 2019 admissions cycle and it was about a month and a half after my interview when I got a decision email

VMCVM doesn’t do interviews, and it really depends on the school when you hear back for those that do interview. For example, upenn calls you the Monday after you interview (they hold interviews on Fridays) where as other schools will take a month if not more.
Either way, this is just the VMCVM group, and I would advise you to ask about other schools in their respective threads.
And lastly, welcome to SDN! 🙂

Hi everyone! I'm currently a 2nd year MD resident. I was initially waitlisted and was called at the end of March. Waitlist movement is variable between years and the best you can do is be patient. Our class even had a student pulled from the waitlist just before classes started. I wanted to come on here just to say that I know being an alternate is stressful, but stay optimistic because you never know if you may get that call 🙂

OOS Alternate- first time applying!! Feeling very good about this considering I was sure I would be rejected.
Now I just need some people to start making decisions so those seats open up..
THE WAITING CONTINUES

I’m a current first year and this is basically what happened to me as well (in state MD). I wasn’t accepted until just after April 1. Anything can happen between now and then. Make sure to send updates to admissions(I did). Fingers crossed for you all! And congrats to those who have been accepted already!

OOS alternate! Second time applying. Staying optimistic. Congrats everyone!

What did you include in your update email? And when did you send it?

congratulations on your interviews!! That’s awesome. When did you hear you had got one from Lincoln Memorial? I had my interview with Ross yesterday and they said it would be end of January for decisions for the september class.

Hi there,
I included all of my experiences that I had accrued after submitting my application (because with interviews being MMI there were no good opportunities to discuss this) and also why I wanted to go to VMCVM. I sent this update letter in March, I believe. I know it was right before we found out our waitlist placement.

Do we know how many people are on the alternate list this year? It sounds like A LOT.

No idea how many but definitely more than the 125 previously thought. It almost seems like the only people who got denials were ones who maybe didn’t meet requirements, and then everyone else got waitlisted....?

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! For anyone who has been accepted/is an alternate and who did not take medical terminology at their undergrad institution, are there any recommended online courses that meet Virginia-Maryland's requirement? Thanks in advance!

Yea I mean for me I’ve been accepted to Midwestern, but was still hoping for Vtech before I make the commitment (housing application opens tomorrow for on campus housing- with answers in March , so if I get that I’ll have to make a commitment and sign that contract without knowing my alternate #).

It’s a little discouraging we can’t ask rank until April especially since it seems so many are on the alternate list
[/QUOTE]

You should accept a sure thing even if you are high on the alternate list. Worst case scenario is you lose some deposit money. It's not a big deal to say yes to a school that accepted you and then decline later if you get a better offer elsewhere.

Edited to add: Don't send deposit money until you have to, but if you might not get housing unless you get the ball rolling now, you should do that
