If you count all of the pools together, there are usually like 250 alternates. 125 is usually just the OOS waitlist. They might have hedged higher this year, but I doubt by much. For a pool of 1850 total applicants, they probably rejected 1400-1500 people.

Even if you meet requirements you can still receive a rejection. People on this forum can probably confirm, especially since the requirements are very minimal.
 
Oh I did! I accepted my seat so that I could apply for their on campus housing. Now I’ll hear back in March for if I got it or not, but if I get the on campus housing I’ll have to make a firm decision right then because I’ll have to sign the housing contract or lose my place.

You should accept a sure thing even if you are high on the alternate list. Worst case scenario is you lose some deposit money. It's not a big deal to say yes to a school that accepted you and then decline later if you get a better offer elsewhere.

How did you accept your alternate status?
 
Yes I had to send the deposit money to accept my seat in order to apply for housing. The on campus housing is a HUGE perk (animal and family friendly!) so I want to make sure if that’s where I end up I am able to live on campus! But if I get accepted for housing I’ll have to decide within a few days to accept for 100% sure because then I’ll be in a housing contract. At least that’s my understanding... maybe it will just be another deposit and no big deal🤷‍♀️


You should accept a sure thing even if you are high on the alternate list. Worst case scenario is you lose some deposit money. It's not a big deal to say yes to a school that accepted you and then decline later if you get a better offer elsewhere.

Edited to add: Don't send deposit money until you have to, but if you might not get housing unless you get the ball rolling now, you should do that

You don’t accept alternate status 🙂 you only have to accept or decline if you are awarded a seat.

Yes, what mmm032 said.

For the person I was quoting I was telling them not to hold out hope as an alternate if they had been accepted somewhere else. They should say yes to their acceptance before the deadline they were given even if they are an alternate at a school they would prefer. They can change their mind later if they get in off a waitlist at their preferred school.

Ah, gotcha. Hopefully you just lose the housing deposit too if that happens!

I’m in state Virginia and got the same message. I think it’s just a generic statement.

See if they do folder reviews! That can help you do better next year. Rejection is an awful feeling, but just know that getting into school is just as much of a luck game (to some degree) as it is your qualifications!
 
I received a response asking about the statement: "In addition, please provide any facts that might alter your status as an alternate."

Response: “ This statement is more for if you want to be removed from the alternate list and to make sure we have the most up to date contact information for you.”
 
I really wish we could know how many individuals were waitlisted, also I wish we could ask for our rank earlier especially since they sent out decisions so early. April seems so far away.

They aren't able to tell you. Shelby was only able to tell me that they have more alternates than previous years because they weren't able to hold interviews. So just in limbo until April... IS (VA) alternate.

Interesting. I wonder how many more? Were more people waitlisted than rejected I wonder?

It is for sure a unique year to apply, if they are the only school you applied to I would just call in April and find out where you are on the waitlist and request a file review. Don't stop now working towards improving your application. Continue to get hours and experiences between now and then!

That doesn’t really make sense to me since they normally have to narrow it down to 165 oos for interviews during a normal cycle anyway. Unless they are expecting more movement on the list due to Covid for some reason??

Does VMCVM accept credit through doane? Are you doing Orgo chem 2 and Biochem simultaneously?

I'm in a predicament where my school requires Orgo2 for Biochem. I have Orgo2 next semester, and will have to do Biochem somewhere else if my school doesn't let me do both simultaneously.

I think often schools will let you do both simultaneously? My post-bacc university definitely did, most people did that. Have you asked the professors/chem department yet?

I'm currently trying to figure that out. It's contingent on my grades, but I just like a backup plan in case I'm told "no".

Gotcha! You can definitely e-mail the admissions office to check, but VA-MD did tell me that my online English class at a community college was fine. Not totally sure that this would extend to upper-level science classes, but there isn't anything stating on their website or admissions materials that they would require this. You are likely okay to take it online, but check with them to be sure, they're very nice via e-mail!

They just emIled me to say any accredited college or university would be accepted. Woohoo! Theyll double check the course to make sure it is transferrable credit.
 
Only if one of them is a prerequisite. Otherwise that no longer matters. However, you can send updated transcripts, so getting good grades may or may not help you if you are on the alternate list (I haven’t gotten a reply as to whether or not this is the case).

Hello, i am an alternate and they allow medical terminology from community colleges. I took it online at anne arundel community college.
