YAY wildowl!!!!! Thats awesome!!!!!! 😎
I will probably turning down my spot 🙁 but I hope my seat goes to a sdner!!! I think there is some movement on the waitlist 😳 those on the waitlist dont be forlorn
Do any current students have recommendations for books for first years? I know there was a link on the Western U web page but I can't find it again 🙁 I got my hands on Plumb's Drug Handbook, but it's only the fourth edition. Do you think that will make a huge difference?
DO NOT BUY BOOKS...YET! You will be assigned a big sib during the summer and he/she can give you some advice on which books to buy or not buy. Also, I recommend that you look at the books from the library first before investing in buying your own. WesternU does not have a required book list because you are allowed to use any (reliable) resource that is best for you (textbooks, journals, primary lit, etc).
Oh, in the summer? Great! I just wanted to get a jump start on reading. This is the first summer I won't be in school since my freshman year of high school.
I have a few question for current vet students: I have three dogs. What are my options for rentals? I'm very interested in the Chino HIlls area but I'm open to other options. Also, I have a horse. What are places for cheap pasture board only? He is a very easy keeper. Thanks 🙂
hey guys,
just sharing the information i received from admissions. 160 offers were extended and 90 alternates......heres hoping alternate list moves![]()
Don't give up hope! A lot of people decline (money, other schools, other problems) and the waitlist can move! If you do plan to accept, send in your deposit ASAP, because it is first come, first served. Better safe than sorry! Waitlisters, good luck!![]()
April 15th is the postmark date. You may want to clarify on Student Doctor, it is not first come first serve. Anyone who was offered a seat and sends in their deposit on time are in the class.
Once your deposit is received by Jeanene White, you will receive an e-mail. Your deposit will not be cashed until after April 15th.
Best Wishes,
Any WesternU 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year students monitoring this forum have any input on job prospects/how you will pay off your debt and how much debt you are looking at dealing with? My parents are pretty anxious about the amount of debt I will be incurring over the next 4 years and it would really help them feel better to hear that Western students have job prospects and are going to be able to pay off loans.
I know I'm not really interested in companion animal or equine if that makes a difference.
Would really appreciate any feedback and I'm planning to talk to Financial Aid on Monday. Sorry to be the Debbie Downer worrying about money already but I'm just trying to be realistic and prepare myself/console my parents lol.
I'm in the same boat as you! Hoping to qualify for the $40,500 Stafford loan but I'm wondering where I'll get the extra from. Being 19 hasn't given me much time to accrue much credit on my own so hopefully having my parents cosign on a private loan will help me out.
I've been looking into IBR a lot. I want to be an ACVS Diplomate which means 1-2 years of internship after vet school making next to nothing ($20,000/yr) so I'm hoping the "demonstrating partial financial hardship" requirement will be easy to satisfy. The hard part is finding a loan, other than the Stafford, that qualifies for IBR.
In all honesty, I try not to read too much about the student loan situation because it's extremely frustrating.
Is there an unofficial facebook page out there for Western students?
At this point, I think it's a better idea to read up on the information and educate yourself as much about your future as you can, rather than ignore the issues and be unprepared when you graduate.
I just made an unofficial FB page for our class

To any upperclassmen, I know the IPE class is a requirement for first years; how many of you still talk to students in the different colleges? Just out of curiosity 🙂
I've started researching where to live next year and I've kind of come to the conclusion that it'll be Chino or Claremont. I visited Claremont when I was in town for my interview, but that was it. Can any of you explain any significant differences from one to the other? I liked Claremont's small town feel, as compared to where I live now! Not sure how "small town" it actually is, since I've always lived in or near a city.
