I could not find the 2010-11 thread so creating here.
did any one get secondary?

Members don't see this ad.

Dr. Weir said that they would begin sending them out this month. Haven't received one yet.

Is there still no one who has gotten a secondary?

Admissions told me today that secondaries won't come out until the 3rd week of August.

I hope you get one soon. It is essentially the same as the PCSOM one, except it is paper, not online.

does it ask for "statement of purpose"?

If it is at all like last year's it will have, if I remember correctly, why WCU? why DO? and something about practicing in a small town. I'd search through the thread from last year because I know the questions were posted. I just can't remember them because I didn't fill it out. I think it was along those lines though.

Here you go :):

.Statement of Purpose.

.In the space below, please explain how your ambitions and career plans will help WCU-COM to fulfill this mission..

is there a limit on characters/words?

I just included a separate page on mine. There is no statement about a limit to the amount of words or characters you can use.

single spaced or double? sorry if it sounds like i'm obsessed with mundane details :p

The prompt posted earlier is exactly as it is stated on the secondary application. There is no statement about it needing to be single or double spaced.

Do they screen before sending out secondary? Did you guys receive by email?

Unsure about screening. Someone last year said they did, but this can change as they are so new.

And yes, we did get an email. It included the secondary as an attachment to print and mail.

Thanks!! I guess waiting continues for me then

They did not screen last year. Everyone receives a secondary.

question for you guys on the secondary- if I'm retaking mcat Aug 19, will the automatically reject sending me a secondary (if I didn't make the cutoff) ?
or will they send a secondary once I have updated the score?

don't want to get phased out b/c I submitted my info early and screwed !

i'm in a similar situation; most schools will wait for you new mcat scores, i've gotten emails from AZCOM/TOURO/LECOM E/LECOM B/VCOM/KCOM/Wester pretty much saying that they want to see my new scores b4 making a decision. I would venture to guess that WC is the same, I still haven't gotten the secondary so I don t want toe e-mail and ask but I would if I were you, let me know what they say

Anyone else stressing about the secondary? I received it I am just nervous to submit it!

Don't be nevous to submit it :) It's a huge relief once you do...at least it has been for me. I have yet to recieve this one but hopefully soon!

same here... :(

I was released on 7/15 and it took about 2 weeks for them to send me a secondary e-mail so don't worry I bet it is coming soon! or you probably already received it by now...

Has anyone visited the school? I have never been there before and have no clue what it is like.

The building(s) isn't/aren't completed yet, but the campus is nice. It is on a small campus that contains all undergraduate and graduate programs. The buildings on campus are kind of scrunched all together. The school is located in Hattiesburg, which is a decent sized city with a few things to do and many apartment complexes spread out all over the place. The side of Hattiesburg where WCU resides isn't really nice, but the rest of Hattiesburg is nice. There are plenty of rural areas around, but there are enough city and suburban things to keep you entertained. The other school in town is the University of Southern MS. It is much larger than WCU.

Any one else got secondary. My application was sent to them by AACOMAs in last week of June but I have not heaed anything from t hem.

Thank you that was really helpful!

I'm in the same boat. Haven't heard anything yet.

To expand on entertainment, there are lots of restaurants around, bars, college sports (USM for football/basketball, WCU for basketball/baseball), movie theater, and New Orleans and the beach (with casinos) are both less than 2 hours away.

There are two Wal-Marts in Hattiesburg and several grocery stores called "The Corner Market" around town. There is a mall and bookstores as well. There are golf courses around too, if that's your thing. The cost of living is pretty cheap around Hattiesburg, and several of the smaller cities (like Petal) are decent places to live as well.

Just wanted to offer some more information about the town. You would enjoy living there if you like a nice mix of rural/decent sized town.

The two most important buildings (lecture/lab facility and faculty/student office/study building) ARE now open and ready for business. These buildings are indeed state-of-the-art. The final building (Administrative offices for the Deans et al.) is on schedule to be completed in December. You see? AT WCU-COM students come first.

First EVER year orientation begins at 8AM tomorrow morning, August 16, 2010. Please, all interested parties? Wish those of us currently on board (accepted students, hired faculty, administration, and [very importantly] the support staff) with this newly launched ship all your prayers and best thoughts.

My thoughts are that WCU-COM will be a school of choice for any and all aspiring osteopathic medical students very soon. Prospective students? Stay with this and related threads. ASK questions of whomever. Contact our incoming first year class. Whatever.

In order for full disclosure: I myself am a senior faculty member, but NOT an actual administrator. I am here at WCU-COM in order to try to provide the very best medical education possible to any and all. I am not alone in this effort.

my AACOMAS was released in June and STILL no secondary from william carrey; i know they don't screen (and even if they did, it think i'm above the cutoff) so can someone tell me what the hold up is.

This and KCUMB are the only schools I haven't heard from.

I am in the same boat with you, gatewasani. I completed my AACOMAS later in July though. However I never heard from either of them. I was wondering if they are not OOS friendly....

I think they might just be sending out the secondaries in batches. Lets see if we get one today!

I think they are sending them out in batches- I called the school on Friday and Emily said she had a big stack to send out- does anyone know if they're emailed or mailed? I thought it was emailed last year but it sounded like she was going to mail them this year.

I think they are sending secondaries first to people who have the stats they want because from reading this thread there are people who were verified before others, but have not received secondaries.

Is a DO letter required for this school?

Same here. I haven't gotten the secondary yet either. I was verified and released with AACOMAS around June 20th.
