I wonder what the longest time is that the Tucson WL has gone without movement before? Anyone know?

I have no idea, but maybe they are waiting to do it a few calls all at once? That wouldn't really make sense considering the waitlist is ranked. Maybe they want to make sure that no one is out of town for spring break and are waiting until Monday when everyone should be back in town? I guess we'll find out in 2 days.

Yes.

The Futterwacken. AKA the mad hatter dance.

DISCLAIMER... If you haven't seen the new Alice in Wonderland yet, then you may not want to watch this just yet.

Also, I'm not sure about the wait list movement. I'll try to ask around next week, but chances are you'll know before I will. I've been too busy spring breaking it... kinda hard to keep up with all this post activity.

Good luck guys. Don't stress too much about the wait list movement. If you haven't alreadey, start planning your senior/last-summer-before-med-school-starts trip!

First of all, the only dance I'd ever recommend is the Carlton. It puts all others to shame. Great music too.

As for pre-MS-I vacations, my dad just gave me his timeshare to use this summer!!! I have the world at my feet. Its such an awesome graduation gift, I can't believe it. Needless to say my wife an I are getting our beach bodies ready to rock-n-roll. I'll take this convo to the accepted thread though, so as to not rub any WLers the wrong way.

Is it that place right by ASU on University? Is there even enough parking for all of us? If I'm thinking of the right place, every time I have been in that parking lot there is no where to park.

This is true, but at the same time you should take some of the blame. For this whole week, the WL has been at #13, and you're #14. I mean, what the heck are you waiting on? Frankly, you're being a bit rude to everyone else...geez 😛

Yes, that is the Chuckbox. It is on University and Forest. They have great hambugers. You add all of the condiments (ketchup, mustard, ranch, pickles, onions, tomato, lettuce, etc) yourself, so you can make it just how you want. I love this place. My dad even ate there regularly as a college student at ASU (like 30 years ago). That's how long this place has been around!

I apologize for being so selfish and stalling the wait list movement! 😉 I knew I should have tried just a bit harder on the MCAT..then maybe, just maybe, I wouldn't be the one responsible for all of this anxiety! I promise to try harder this week!

Today is going to be the day! I can just feel it! Come on Tucson WL, move, move, move!!!

Back to school back to school.

I want to see everyone getting some acceptances this week! 😀

Thought I would add my name to this list and wish everyone waiting good luck. The ranked waitlist is nice because it gives some sort of reference. I am undecided if I would attend Tucson if accepted, but I would be really excited to have such a tough choice to make. Good luck everyone.

Well, I don't know LRK. I mean I still have a lot of options and I was thinking that maybe PHX would cont...😕

Oh? What's that? You weren't talking to me?

Oh right, I haven't been accepted.

YET. 😎

I am in a good mood today, so I think I will use some of that good will to wish the WL some extra quick movement! GOGOGOGO!

I take a little comfort in the fact that it seems so many of the people who are ahead of me on the list seem to have other acceptances/applications. Hopefully that will mean more movement.

But, of course, I'd like you guys to stay so that we get the chance to be classmates. And, I've heard that you make quite the Guacamole LRK, so I'll be expecting you to make Guac every week for our study group.

Congrats SmokeyGray! All this great news from Tucson and still no movement at Phoenix? Any other acceptances/WL for the Phoenix IS/OOS WLers. Based on the recommendations of MadE and LRK I've intermingled the Carlton Dance with the Futterwacken. Maybe I'll put up a you tube link...

Not me, I'm willing to bribe anyone who's interested with money, women/men, or chocolate to decline Phoenix and/or Tucson :meanie:

JK. All I ask is that you guys higher up on the WL let us know what your preferences are, and where you decide to go. 🙂

Thanks to the new applicants updating our list.

I've got four more grueling weeks . . . till GRADUATION! WOOO! :soexcited:

4 weeks? Holy cow. Where do you go to school that you graduate before the end of April?

😕 Me making guacamole? I don't eat that stuff, and I certainly don't know how to make it. I will gladly grill up some delicious chicken though, or maybe I could bring some homemade applesauce. I can hardly look at the guacamole though...

I am 99% sure that you will see me in Tucson. The only other school that I interviewed at and really loved was Boston University. They don't do rolling admissions and are giving decisions next week.

BU is a great school, but even if I get in, it is hard to justify paying the price difference when I would be perfectly happy at either school.

I am planning on going to second look day. Im looking forward to meeting many of you!

BYU - they accelerate the semesters to fit 3 in a year - meaning no Spring Break, and few holidays 🙁 but early finish 🙂

😕 Me making guacamole? I don't eat that stuff, and I certainly don't know how to make it.

I find that to be irrelevant. Just because I made up the fact that you make good guac doesn't mean my facts aren't true. LRK is making everyone chicken, and bringing the guac in from a catering service! 😀

Thanks! 👍

And, I agree with you that BU is too expensive. I mean, very cool and you get to live in Boston, but... worth the money? Tough call. I'm sure you can guess what I think based on the fact that I *only* applied to in-state school.

Lucky! I am so sick of school this semester. Knowing that I have graduation just a few short weeks away is making it next to impossible for me to make myself study. Add to that the fact that I took an intentionally light course load with only two in person classes, and I think you'll understand why I'd rather just sit at home and watch March madness instead of go to med chem or immunoneuropsychology (INP). It doesn't help that I think my INP professor sounds like Dick Vitale, which makes me not want to go even more. Oh and that med chem test I have tomorrow? No, I most certainly have not started studying at all for it.

Buy me a bigger grill and I will gladly cook up as much chicken as you can eat. Heck, I'll even throw on some steaks and burgers too! Actually the first order of business is for me to find a house to rent in Tucson, THEN you can buy me a big grill!

Good to hear you should be in Tucson next year. I think that is the right decision, although I am a little biased against the north east. My dislike for area of the country is why I didn't even bother applying to Harvard, Yale, Johns Hopkins, etc., even though I know I was a shoe-in there. Oh while I'm on places I don't like, I also don't like California. Granted I know I was also a shoe-in at UC-SF, Stanford, and UCLA, I just have no desire to live in Cali...

Back on topic, I think you're smart in wanting to save that money and stay in AZ. You're going to work your butt off and become a great doctor no matter where you go, because that is determined by you and not the school you go to. I look forward to meeting you at second look.

...i'm in the same boat about BU....i'm not sure i could justify the price if i get in to BU (march 30th is rapidly approaching!). i actually have a buddy that turned down BU to go to U of A in phx.....and one who turned down U of A in Tucson for BU lol.

looks like we found the comedian! haha.

Us comedians are increasing in number in medical school I think. Probably because of the economy. But also because those SAG and AFTRA fees were getting OUT.OF.HAND.

But, I am pretty sure he was serious. I actually just spoke to John Hopkins and Mark Harvard and they both told me they were quite disappointed he didn't apply. And, coincidentally, they were both shorter than you'd expect.

haha....comedians are a necessity in medicine, no doubt.

Well, they may not have used to words "shoe-in" per se, but I know they wanted me.

haha i know what you're saying. hard to beat AZ weather though. too cold in the east imo

Hey Lrk, when are you going to update your MDApp and reveal to us your super secret EC (my bet is the secret is that you're Batman)? We already turned on the un-anonymizer so can you tell usssss???

Hey Lrk, when are you going to update your MDApp and reveal to us your super secret EC (my bet is the secret is that you're Batman)? We already turned on the un-anonymizer so can you tell usssss???

Haha, I'm actually batwoman, so I just have to tuck it... Honestly, I completely forgot about MDapps after I decided Tucson would be my home next year. I guess I need to update that sometime in the next couple of days. It isn't a super secret or amazing EC, but I felt as though it might be a dead give away to any crazy adcoms searching MDapps (not that I think they do this!). Anyways, A couple summers ago I went to the small country of Malawi and helped get a solar cooker project started there. Basically they consist of a reflective apparatus that heats a black pot. Now the beneficial thing about these solar cookers is that they can cut down drastically on the amount of wood collected for cooking (yep, you guessed it a wood fire is the primary source of heat for cooking). This helps in a few ways. First, and most obviously, it helps the local environment by reducing the destruction caused daily wood collection from the forests. Secondly, and more importantly in my mind, since women are the members of Malawian society who are responsible for collecting wood, they often leave have to leave their young children and infants behind. What happens far too often then is that these children fall in to the fires and suffer disfiguring burns. While in Malawi we met multiple people with these injuries, including a woman who's foot was completely burnt off as a child.

Now the second part of this is that a few months after we returned, we got together with some other people and established a non-profit group to continue helping the people over there. We've done some other cool projects since then, including one that ASU bioengineers may be familiar with, which is the disabled Malawians project. This is where we give video of disabled people in Malawi (and elsewhere in Africa), and we use the slave labor that is senior bioengineers doing their capstone project to make stuff for those people. It works great for us and the engineers as it gives them a real world problem to solve. Anyways, that's probably enough detail about that. You can go here for more info (if you really want): http://www.sustainableltd.org/

Now back to strippers and coke...

That's really awesome, and almost as cool as being Batman. I've been thinking about doing something like that either summer of MSI or summer of MSII, and in the far distant future, have thought about Doctors Without Borders as something worthwhile that I could do in between stints as a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills giving celebrities boob jobs and doing all the coke I could handle.

You and I are clearly on the same page! Speaking of page, during the med chem test tomorrow can I look at your test pages? I still haven't studied yet. I'm thinking it might be interesting to see how I can do just by cramming tomorrow morning before the exam. Realistically, I will be satisfied with a 25% or above...

Let's go Tucson, let's go! Let's go Tucson, LET'S GO! LET'S GO TUCSON, LET'S GOOOOO! I've gambled a small fortune on how far that WL goes - Daddy needs a new pair of shoes! (Actually, when I think about it, relatively speaking, that could be a true statement)

"Dear UACOM Admissions,

Perhaps the UA basketball team disappointed this year - it was a shock to all of us - but we at SDN know you're about to make winners of all of us this March.

My friend Ilovewater really wants and deserves a phone call from you. 😉 :luck: :xf: I would very much appreciate you telephoning him tomorrow morning. Additionally, could you please contact my friends tmm808, SurfdudeJD, Indiana06, Nasappah, ACE28, ehandber, and MedHopeful777 as soon as possible? They anxiously anticipate and deserve an invitation to attend the UACOM - in March, maybe April.

AND . . . if you find it within your most merciful and gracious heart, PLEASE contact myself and my friends paiger, sweetlife, aztri, countryboydoc, sunny1, and BearDownAZ as soon as circumstance permits. We understand that time may only allow such to be arranged in June or July - we shall bear the wait with patience. Just please, . . . PLEASE SEND US A *&%$# INVITATION! PLEEEEEAAAAAAAAASE!

With My Deepest Appreciation and Most Sincere Regards,

MIR
SDNer Extraordinaire

PS What were you smoking when you didn't send mathlink an invite during the first cycle? It must have been some pretty good stuff . . . There's still time to accept him. Act now; don't wait."

What do you guys think? Should I make any changes before emailing it tomorrow morning?

Does someone want to call in today for an update on the tucson WL number?

I will update the plot.

I just called Tucson to ask them but nobody answered. I left a message requesting that they email me with the information, so hopefully I will hear back sometime soon. If I don't I will (try to remember to) call again before 5pm.

We know thanks to smokeygray that they are through at least 14, and another SDNer is #16 so we know we aren't at 16 yet. Basically we are at 14 or 15. Hopefully by today we'll get a couple more.

I know Ilovewater in real life, who just left for a China/Japan trip today. Even if they get to #16, we may not hear for a while.

Haha I think many of us know each other in real life!

Anyone know if Phx released WL spots at intervals (like every Friday or something) last year? Or is the WL really just not moving at Phx? If so 🙁

Damn China/Japan trips messing up our WL stuff. Oh well, at least we have #17 and #20 to rely on, so if there is a couple spots of movement, we'll know. Its actually pretty nice that we have so many people on the top of the list, so we can get a nice regression line formed early on.

I don't know about intervals. But I remember jturkel saying he gave up his PHX spot. So....yeah. I will take that spot now please 😀😛
But seriously, I hope someone here on SDN gets it. At least then we won't all be wondering.

My friend who knows Dr. Rawls said that there are 29 people on the first WL.

chagramama, do you have any more details on the WL? A lady from PHX wasn't sure what ehandber meant by tiers - was she either ignorant or purposely making things vague?

Your information so far is MUCH appreciated! 😀

Just talked to Ann - they're still at #14 (I'm so senioritic, I'm ditching my OChem Lab class 😳). So that's not cool; it's probably because I'm still touching up that email and haven't sent it.

I tried calling so now I'm emailing Phoenix to ask about how many people they've pulled off. I know you already tried asking, ehandber, but in past years they would occasionally give direct answers (I think it mostly depends on how good looking the applicant is 😀 . . . I mean, uh, who it is that answers your question ).
