Sorry ehandber, I guess I must be better looking! JK

This is what Tara said:
We notify students via email of an acceptance offer, followed by a packet of information to your preferred address that includes the official acceptance letter from Dean Stuart Flynn, an initial financial aid award, Second Look Weekend (April 8-10) and other information.

The 2009 season was managed very differently than this year (no rolling admissions), which led to significant movement from the waitlist as the two-campuses managed a tremendous overlap of acceptances. With this said, our process is quite different this year and to-date, we have moved three from our waitlist. We anticipate, as all medical schools do, movement closer to May 15th.

I know this vague information makes it tough, but appreciate the season is unpredictable.

Best,
Tara

Im willing to bet PHX will fill those 3 spots on Monday the 29th... but thats just a guess

I read "we have moved three from our waitlist" as three people have already been pulled from the WL. Not that they have three spots to fill. But it would be nice if three more got in on Monday!

Well when that email went out that said those accepted to other schools (tuscon) had to pick one or the other in 2 weeks... well Friday is that 2 week mark I believe. So perhaps they will meet Friday and pick some more people monday. Just my thoughts

That's a good point. I was thinking like aztri, but that could be entirely possible. If they don't rank their WL, I don't imagine they call a quick meeting each time one acceptee declines - they probably make more efficient use of their busy schedules and do a few at a time, or once every couple of weeks. PICK ME! PICK ME! PICK ME!

Haha, that does bring up another point: we should see some movement in one or two week intervals for those having a tough time choosing a campus. The whole email and no call thing will make for a delayed reaction - I guess it just means I'll have a heart attack or wet myself in a more private setting (home, library) than during class or something.

That's great news about the Phx WL! I wonder what 29 people from "the first waitlist" means? 3/4? 3/5? Both? IS/OOS? Also, we have no idea if the 3 where IS or OOS or a combination of the two. But I suppose some movement news is better that no movement news. I'll keep doing the Carlton/Futterwacken, maybe it's working.

Thanks! Good luck to everyone else! Also, not a big "poster" on here but am also #81 on Tucson WL. I'll try to figure out how to actually add it to that list someone posted a while ago...

Here is an update to our tucson plot, obviously things are moving pretty slowly.

Maybe next week I will put the first trend line on it.

Congrats to smokegray and happyglucky.

I am glad that HG got an acceptance to PHX! Congrats! Always nice to see SDNers (henceforth known as scrublets) get in!

It'd be cool to have a scrublet party once we all get in so we can meet each other and eat bacon, or tofu or fancy-feast or whatever. Some sort of eat-and-greet, that's all I'm sayin.

Well, here's to tomorrow! :xf::luck:

Hey all. I've been reading this forum as a guest for far too long and have succumbed to the pressure of this process. I hoping for some WL movement like most of you. Hopefully, I'm welcome.

All the best,

Hey y'all,
Would anyone currently in Phoenix be willing to let me crash with them on Thursday night? I'm only going to be at second look for Thursday evening and Friday during the day, then flying home Friday night. I was planning on renting a car, but it would be nice to not have to pay for a hotel room I wouldn't be in that much.
~ Erin

I've got a couch you could crash on. I live in Tempe though, but right by the light rail. Depending on your schedule I could do an airport trip for you too, save you money on the rental.

Lemme know if you need something. And that goes for anyone who is coming to PHX for the second look! 👍

Hey, everyone lucky enough to go to second look: If you could post details and your thoughts about how it goes, that would be awesome! Thanks 👍

I second that. Also, any questions that you are left with. Hope to join you all.

I don't know about intervals. But I remember jturkel saying he gave up his PHX spot. So....yeah. I will take that spot now please 😀😛
But seriously, I hope someone here on SDN gets it. At least then we won't all be wondering.

My friend who knows Dr. Rawls said that there are 29 people on the first WL.

Chagramama, what did you mean by the first WL? 3/4 or 3/5?

Hey, Salt,

If you need to, you could stay with me. I live by myself in a 1bdrm with a loft right by campus, and the loft has a twin bed - not very private, but it'd be all yours if you'd like it!

Chagramama, what did you mean by the first WL? 3/4 or 3/5?

Both.
I was differentiating between the 3/4 and 3/12 (or whatever it is). I think the 3/4 and 3/5 would be the same "pool" or "tier". But apparently there are no such things as tiers according to Tara 🙄

Honestly I have no idea if there really are tiers or anything. This is just what my friend who knows Dr. Rawls says. She said Dr. Rawls fully expects to get through the entire first tier and some of the second. So hopefully, that's true! But, I am trying my best not to count on it to avoid any crushing disappointment.

Maybe PHX has been bogged up with this...

Congratulations!

Your work on behalf of the Downtown Phoenix Medical Center Health Science and Education Building (HSEB) has paid off. Several weeks ago, we asked you to contact members of the state legislatures’ Joint Committee on Capital Review (JCCR) and ask them to schedule a review of HSEB so that construction could begin. We’re happy to report that your voice was heard - earlier this week, JCCR gave a favorable review of HSEB, allowing construction to officially move forward! 2,000 new jobs will be created during the construction phase of HSEB and when complete, HSEB will provide space to train nurses, doctors, pharmacists and medical professionals that are critically needed in Arizona.

Thank you for taking the time to contact members of JCCR and for supporting HSEB – we know you are busy. If you have a moment, we would encourage you to send a quick e-mail to members of the JCCR thanking them for giving HSEB a favorable review. Let them know that you appreciate their decision and that this building will create valuable new jobs for Arizonans and provide new facilities to train medical professionals that will impact our quality of life. (See below for JCCR member contact information.)

Read about HSEB in The Arizona Republic and The Phoenix Business Journal.

HSEB Quick Facts

HSEB is a tri-university project.
Construction of HSEB is expected to begin in mid-April.
HSEB will allow the College of Medicine-Phoenix to grow its class size to at least 120 medical students per year from its current 48 per year.
HSEB will provide space for training 80 advanced pharmacy students at UA's College of Public Health and College of Pharmacy.
HSEB will support over 2,000 nursing students at the ASU College of Nursing and Health Innovation and Department of Biomedical informatics.
HSEB will assist with the start-up of NAU's Health Professionals Program.

Erik, that's good news. I'm glad they can finally move forward with that. Anyone have any idea when they will be increasing the class size again (I'm assuming by 24 or something)?

chagramama, thanks for the info. I also hope Dr. Rawls is right! It'd be nice to see everyone with some attractive options (Which one, which one? Tucson, or Phoenix, hmmm . . . )

I've been pretty stressed out, but not b/c of school or being WLed (taking care of a family health emergency). Last night it culminated in me getting sick :barf:, hours after I shifted responsibility to my Mom. I'm curious, does anyone else get sick a few days to a week after being really stressed (like during finals)? I'm not saying it always happens to me, especially since I've applied and been senioritic for the past year and a half. I had a really chill roommate once who called finals week 'donut week'. We would all pitch in and buy a big box of donuts to fatten ourselves upon. 😛 He would take it to the next level, and had movie marathons during finals too . . . I didn't have my best scores, but I sure enjoyed it 😀

I kinda know what you mean. I don't get physically sick, but I do just plain wear myself out after finals week. I spend so many late nights studying and eat such horrible food the whole week that by the time it is over I just want to hop in my bed and sleep for twelve hours straight haha! My roommate and I have done the movie marathons as well and they actually are really fun and relaxing when you are super stressed 🙂

Anyone else find it interesting that the OOSers we know of on the Tucson WL are both in the 30's? Coincidence? That's what I'm guessing, but I'm wondering if there's a string of OOSers somewhere, and hopefully the list moves a little faster through it.

MIR you crack me up dude. You come up with so many theories!

Its awesome!

And who knows, maybe you're right! I'd love that. Anything to get me off the WL and into medschool!

And about getting sick- I have never had a semester where I don't get sick three days into break (right after finals). I am literally 9/9 semesters, sick every time. I am guessing the stress has something to do with that. Where's our endocrinology expert MSI/MSII's ?! Cortisol and the immune system, go!

😀

And, called Tucson 10 minutes ago... #14 still.

And, called Tucson 10 minutes ago... #14 still.

Do you ever get worried that you're going to annoy them so much they won't let you in? I'm scared to call and ask questions of schools to which I've already been accepted b/c I'm afraid I'll upset them and they'll change their minds! :scared:

If they think it is annoying to have me call them and politely ask them a quick question once every few days I think then they really might NOT want me in their school. I ask a lot of questions, a lot! They will REALLY be annoyed!

But seriously, how could they change their mind about us? We're 100%BA2TM😎

Erik, I just saw your picture on Facebook - you look way different with facial hear. I'm 'Reed Fam' on the University of Arizona College of Medicine Class of 2014 group - hopefully I'll have reason to stay a member 😀 My profile pic is of my son Rylan.

haha yea! I also think there's about 10lbs difference in those pics. I look younger and chubbier in my FB pic, but my gf is in it so she wanted me to put that one up. (Plus, then I can brag about how pretty she is!)

I am always torn between facial hair and no facial hair! Its tough because I do grow an awesome viking beard, but I look so old that way! The beard + the receding hairline makes me look like the guy from the Sherlock Holmes movie that played the inspector!

We're internet pals x2!

You're probably looking more for a psychoneuroimmunologist in this case. Lucky for you, I just happen to be taking a neuroimmunopsychology class right now! Unfortunate for you, the combination of my senioritis and overall lack of immunology knowledge means that I don't hardly know what the heck is going on in that class, therefore I can't help you...sorry. I could give you some papers to read on the subject though.

The day you assign me reading homework, LRK, is the day that I make you look down the barrel of a guacamole gun.

But being as this is a guacamole Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your tastebuds clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky?

Well, do ya, punk?

 That makes me think of every time I eat too much sour candy and I burn off all of my taste buds. I can't imagine a guac gun being too much worse. Heck, at least I wouldn't have to taste that damn guac!

I went into the admissions office this morning in Tucson around 11AM to ask what number the waitlist is at and it was still at #14.

Also I have a friend that was on the Phoenix waitlist and was just accepted. I'm pretty sure she won't be attending though, so good news for all you Phoenix waitlisters!

I'm gonna be going up to the bars in Phoenix tonight if any of you happen to be out and about that direction, please feel free to give me a call/text. We can have a UAMed Bar outting for everyone, even us scrublets!

And don't be giving that number out to everyone, I want it to be a secret. The internet is good at keeping secrets, right? 😎

Jussssssst kidding. Phoenix is a bit far for me to go to imbibe EtOH but I still think we should have an SDN/UA four peaks night.

Does someone want to call or email Phoenix next week to see if/how much the WL has moved from 3?

She just got the email today, so I'm pretty sure that means not the initial three, but I guess we can never know for certain. We should probably call to see if it is higher than three now.

In the mean time COME ON TUCSON!!! MOVE!!! I'm just keeping myself calm by the fact that even though it has barely moved, we are still way farther down the WL than the last couple years at this same time (late March).
