...and rejection.

Whatever Pritzker, Illinois sucks, Chicago sucks, and your school sucks too. I only applied for the money. I would never consider going to your school (unless you paid me money).
Nice to know Pritzker does a good job of finding students who are a "good fit", lol

and apparently now I'm no longer charming either. what a tragic day.

charming ^^ (sorry c, didn't mean you. )

oh no, i didn't mean you! that's why I said "sorry c, didn't mean you". you just snuck in a post after i responded to the rude dude above you.

i really am sorry that you're on hold though you like this school so much. I, too, am on hold, so no worries.

Make it a trifecta. I, too, am on hold. Killin' me UChicago!

haha yeah I know. I was just being self-effacing and so forth.

thanks for the condolences though.

Rude Dude? WHY I NEVER...

In fact, Pritzker was rude to me first. Finding the right med school is like finding a girlfriend. Pritzker must've thought I was was way above her league, and instead of being genuinely interested only wanted to use her...which is true.

No worries though, I've got an interview coming up at Duke, and I would take a good-looking school like Duke over fugly Pritzker anyday.

I got an interview! Yay! I'm so excited about this school! I was complete September 9.

Congratulations! Pritzker has a fast turn-around time, for sure. It's a great school and I'm sure you'll have a great time interviewing there.

Anyone complete around 9/3 that have heard back? It seems like people are getting notification emails/status changes from after that date (interview, rejection, hold)...just wondering if there are others in my boat that have not heard back even though our date has "passed."

Thanks! :-D

hey roaming,

i was complete on 9/4 and no news yet. I keep checking the status page everyday this is one of my favorite schools...

complete 9/4.
no updates yet - silence on the status page.

does this mean we're on hold?

I think why it's not "always in order" is because they hand the apps off to different faculty/committees and some of these might be more prompt/diligent about reading apps than others, so maybe why a 9/12 hears back before 9/4.

hi roaming,

i'm in the same situation--i was complete on sept 4 and i haven't heard anything yet. hopefully we hear somethng soon!!

Put on hold. Hello, fellow hold-ers...

complete 9/8, so that was quite a quick turnaround.

I'm on hold too. What do you think determines who gets off the hold list and gets a Spring interview?

We've talked about this a few times on our podcast. You might want to check it out as an additional resource. The short answer is 1) making sure you're demonstrating a continued interest in Pritzker (updating your application with news, grades, letters, etc.), and 2) being subject to nationwide applicant movement (offers being accepted elsewhere and applications to Pritzker therefore being withdrawn). You're kind of at the mercy of the latter in some respects!

Good luck!
Ben

Wow ... I'm kind of shocked. This is my first stumbling block. 3.93 Cumulative and 3.94 Science, 39 MCAT. I'm put on a hold .... didn't know Chicago was that selective...

well, they do look at other things than simply gpa/mcat. you can't really expect to get an interview at every single schoo, just on the basis of gpa and mcat, can you?

Everything else on my app is pretty solid. I got interviews at a lot of other places so I'm just surprised.

Ben you are such a sweetie.

Goodluck to everyone applying 🙂 I know you all will hear great news, UCHICAGO is a great school. The deans treat you like family and Hyde Park is a very diverse area as well.

A friend of mine just brought something interesting to my attention. According to the 2009 edition of World News and Reports, Pritzker was the third most selective school in the country based on percentage of applicants accepted out of applicants (around 3%). They were only behind Harvard and University of Washington. Even more, this edition of the rankings was published before they reduced the class size to 88 (back when it was around 100) so one can only expect it to be even more competitive in the future.

So that might explain why some of these really impressive numbers have not gotten the attention they might expect. It does seem like they look very closely at the essays to find that "good fit". On a related note, my brother is at Pritzker now and loves it! I'm on hold for now but he said he knows many students in his class that were on hold at some point. Good Luck everyone, there is hope!

FYI, first acceptances last year did, in fact, go out on October 15th I believe around noon or so. If you do NOT get a call, however, do not despair. Pritzker accepted very few applicants last year on October 15th. The continued list IS NOT A BAD THING. Trust me, I know firsthand.

I probably met a bunch of you though I couldn't pick you out obviously, and you all seemed great. Here's to hoping for you guys! Hopefully I get to TA some of you in anatomy next year.

It's October 15th! First day for Pritzker acceptances 🙂 Please post if you get a call.

Got the call today, too at 12:49 pm! Good job! Good luck to everyone else that's still waiting 🙂

Was there any change in your status on the school's website?

Congrats all new Pritzker accepts!!

Accepted too! Real happy about this... I love Pritzker for not making me wait forever to hear back. This certainly takes off the pressure.

I didn't know that there was a status page for U Chicago...

Phone call acceptance today here too! Also got offered a hefty merit scholarship--i was shocked!! I know Pritzker has a lot of scholarship $$, so has everyone been getting these offers?

the admissions office usually accepts around 50 in the first batch! good job!

I wasn't paying attention to everything that he was saying because I was so happy lol. How did he tell you about your scholarship? I think I'm going to call back tomorrow in order to find out the details because I was just way too stoked to listen.

haha, i felt the same way. maybe a good idea to call back! I'm not even sure how we're receiving more information about the acceptance.

The person who called me just said that I was accepted and then went on to say that they were really impressed, etc. and so were going to offer me a $ x merit scholarship. I was caught off-guard bc I didn't expect to hear about money until the spring, but I'm not sure where I got that idea to begin with. I'll have to see this in writing to really beleive it!!

How often does the adcom meet? If I interviewed about a week after these people receiving calls about now, is it possible for me to be hearing good news in about a week?

I remember that the ADCOM at Pritzker told me that they would try to get back to me 5-6 weeks after my interview. So I am assuming that is the case throughout the interview season. Good luck!

When I got the call, I was told that they were sending out acceptances/scholarship info in the mail on Friday 10/16. I cannot wait to see this in writing as well 🙂

I interviewed here in early September but have heard nothing since. Do they contact applicants only if they’ve been accepted? What if you’re waitlisted? Rejected?

Interviewed here on 9/22 and just got a letter saying I'm being considered as a continued candidate. Anyone know how many "continued candidates" eventually get accepted?

A fair amount (on my interview day they said 1/3 ... I think).

You are a continuing candidate b/c they know you will get into better schools and will not go there.

I think they talk about this in the Podcast, and I remember some stat that said like 10% of continued candidates will get accepted, not sure on the number though - I could be WAYYY off.

Just checked: episode 18 of the Pritzker Podcast is entirely devoted to being continued. You can find the episodes on iTunes or pritzkerpodcast.com

Good luck!!

Is it 10% during the cycle or 10% after they eventually make it to the waitlist?

I think it's 10% are accepted from the "continued" list. They don't create a wait list until April or May, I think. Again, I'm not sure at all on the 10% figure, but I know it was discussed sometime on the Podcast.
