Having interviewed at Pritzker and met the students, i can honestly say that their concept of fit is not BS. They know exactly what they are looking for, which is people with a strong interest in interdisciplinary study and have had prior experience working and collaborating in diverse fields. They have quite brilliant medical students, who are yet normal and understated people. I would volunteer to say that they have the most outwardly well-adjusted (and integrated) student body I have encountered in any medical school. It competes with George Washington and Northwestern in this regard. They are actively looking for people who do fit into their school and they know when they find it. My fellow interviewees had all done great things, yet there was a sense of humility about them. Pritzker is no Harvard, but they are trying to recruit would be HMS students. And I dare say that they would succeed. Their financial aid is phenomenal ~ $10 million in scholarship money for a class of 88. It is hard to top that. Every year, they manage to recruit several would be Top-5 students. And I do think that Pritzker is one of those rare schools that would interview only the 5% unique portion of their applicant pool.

Anybody get accepted/continued recently? I interviewed mid-Nov and have heard no news.

I was looking at last year's posts and it appears that the students that interviewed in late November and early December received acceptances during the end of the third week of January. I interviewed early December and am very anxious to hear some good news:xf:.

Wasn't the guy who raised his hand because I'm from a suburb of Chicago and really hate when people say they are from "Chicago" but really aren't lol, but I guess that kind of missed the point, lol

I was the guy who brought the wrong suit coat, pretty conversational and loved to shoot the breeze with everyone, lol Who were you guys??


Wait... what the hell are we doing, we took a freakin' picture at the interview! I'm the guy directly in the middle on the left as you look at the picture, standing, covering the name "Pritzker" with my head, lol

'continued' staus waiting sucks. I am getting the impression that it is no different from a standard waitlist, regardless of what they say....
 
hey question. after you interview...does you status page update if you're continued/waitlisted/rejected/accepted?

Not sure but I'm leaning towards no. The final line on the status page is "Final Decision For Interview: Yes, explanation..."

I don't think they would add another line and then say your post-interview status... could be wrong though.
 
the status page is only for pre-interview information. All other decisions will be communicated by phone (always good news), or mail (mostly bad news).

"We just wanted to call to let you know you've been....REJECTED! Sorry, you just weren't good enough." The rejection email was much nicer than that scenario.
 
spoke with someone on admissions this wee about my app. my interview was on Nov 30th and i was told my file will be going in front of the committee this week and i should know at some point this week if i get a yay/nay/maybe.....:xf: ......please Pritzker? 😍

That's awesome! I would not be able to sleep the entire week if that were the case. I still have 3-5 weeks to go 🙁
 
Does anyone know if Pritzker will change/re-offer scholarships when they get the list of where else someone is accepted in March? I get the impression that Michigan uses this information to draw in students who may have otherwise gone to JHU etc, and I was wondering if anyone knew of this happening at Chicago.

My stats and app is pretty good, I got into University of Michigan, interviewed at Wash U, and have an upcoming interview at Harvard.

Doctors are smart people and the admissions committee probably doesn't want to waste its time. If I get into Harvard, I'd go there over Pritzker.

I think about it this way. Interview day is expensive. An hour of a doctor's time is extremely valuable, so why interview someone who won't come in the first place??

Pritzker got a ridiculous amount of applications this year probably because word got out on their scholarships.

Bro it's quite arrogant to think (and then vent on a forum) that you were rejected because you were too highly qualified. There are plenty of kids with similar stats that likely did get interviews. Also, name/ranking is not the only ranking that many people in a similar position to you consider. Those are rankings of research, not of the education itself. I feel like you will get the same education in any Tier 1 medical school- finding the education that fits you best will translate into better board scores, meaning a better residency. Someone applying for a residency from Prtizker with a higher USMLE than someone applying from Harvard will still likely get the spot, despite it being "Harvard." So don't be so hung up just on the name of a school- I understand you want prestige (so do I), but it might not be the best choice to make that your only criterion.

i know it does. My student interviewer had Chicago go back and forth with UMich

yes indeed pritzker does do this .... they will fight hard to keep you ... you've been accepted and now pritzker's focus is to keep you ... they are very persuassive let me tell you haha

Sorry to hear that. Did anyone get a call last week? The fact that I didn't get one probably means I'm continued as well.

I am a continued applicant, and want to send my update letter to Pritzker ASAP. I have a couple of questions:

1) To Whom should I address the update letter?
2) Should I snail mail or email it?
3) What is the stance of Pritzker on extra rec letters, and how should I go about sending them?

I appreciate any responses!!

Hey sorry, thought someone else would have taken this one by now. I always addressed these letters to "Dear University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine Admissions,"

Email it.

They like it... a lot. Send them via PDF attachment to [email protected]

I'd address and send your email to which ever admin officer you interviewed with or is in charge of your region (David, Joni etc.)

I'd send them an email AND a couple weeks later send them snail mail. I'd also suggest making a phone call once or twice over the next few months. Keep them updated on all fronts. I'd say keep them aware of you every three weeks.

Send them an email now saying why you still love Pritzker. 3 weeks send them your new reference letter. 3 weeks give them a call. Repeat cycle.

Remember ... waitlist really prolly wont move until May ... but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't be communicating with them!!

So PritzkerGuy or Ben, if you're out there: I've sent an update letter pre-interview, an additional LOR pre-interview from a professor, a letter of intent post-interview, and now that I'm continued, I know I'm supposed to keep letting Pritzker know that I'm still definitely interested, but what else should I do?

Immediately write an update letter, write an update letter in a month, write another LOI with more reasons why I absolutely love Pritzker and would certainly attend if accepted, how should I space everything out and what more can I do to show them that I'm qualified and would feel so blessed if I had the opportunity to attend? 😳

Letter in the mail. I live about an hour away so that may lend itself to the swift delivery. As soon as I saw it I knew it wasn't the best news because typically you get a phone call prior. Ah well. Now I'm just hoping to get some pointers for where to go from here...

Hi Pritzker guy,

I was wondering if you could give us a little insight on the admissions process. I know they have 2 committees....and excutive one and another....can you explain to us how that works? Also what is the deems one as being continued vs immediately accepted?
 
Along the same lines as futuredoc, I know that we should keep in touch with Pritzker and let them know we're still interested, but apart from update letters (which nothing super significant is likely to happen in my life every three weeks between now and May), and already sending an LOI, when we call as you suggest, what do we say?

"Hi my name is BBender716, I have recently been classified as a continued candidate, and just wanted to call to express my continued interest in Pritzker." And that's totally fine? That's not weird or abnormal? I just want to make sure because I sense the potential for me having a really awkward telephone conversation, lol

I am in. I am very excited about this one. Pritzker was one of my best interview experiences. Bbender, please keep updating them. I am sure that they will see and know that you love them enough. I have no doubts that spots will open. Hopefully you will be one of them.

Congrats! That's awesome news to hear! I'm trying to keep updating them, just want to spread it out enough to so I don't run out of options too quickly, lol but I don't know if that just sounds stupid. Anyways, I hope to be joining you next year!
 
First time "poster" here...I interviewed at Pritzker awhile ago (like in November) and still havent heard anything from them...For the people who have heard back, how long was it from your interview to you heard something? Thanks!
 
You should have heard. I would call them if I were you. I interviewed on January 7, and I heard from them today. It might be that they sent you a letter that was lost in transition. But do call and ask them to resend your decision.
