I also received an interview invite today via email! 😀

Congrats Allie, were you able to speak with anyone to schedule an interview? I got the email after 5pm so I left a voicemail.

No...I got the email at like 5:15, so they were closed when I called. I'm just going to call again tomorrow when I get off work. I would've left a voicemail, but I figured they'd call while I was at work and it would just turn into a game of phone tag, lol.

Hey everyone. Quick question, I interviewed earlier in the season, and they mentioned the 3-8 week response time in getting back to us. I know some of you have been accepted within that time frame.

How about the folks that have not been accepted?? I haven't heard anything at all and was wondering what the deal is... Has anyone been wait-listed, put on hold, or rejected? Anyone know how they are handling the "non-superstar OMG we gotta accept this person right away!!!" applicants?

Oh, I forgot to mention, I interviewed over 8 weeks ago... I thought they'd at least send us a response... Any similar experiences, I would love to hear them!

I interviewed like 10 weeks ago and have not heard as much as a peep, a few ppl in this thread were accepted and I think most others are just waiting. No idea what the deal is, I called the admissions office but just got their voicemail and I imagine they probably wouldn't of been able to help much anyways. Hopefully we hear some good news soon

Cool, thank you for the response!

Does USF usually send out intervitation interview on every Thursday? and Interview on every Tuesday?

Invitations can come any day, many come at the end of the week though, all interviews are on Tuesdays. No hard and fast response time-frame so don't go by the 2-8 wk reference, I am pretty sure that just means, "could be 2 weeks, could be 8 weeks, could be some other time entirely."

If I didn't get an invitation, would USF send a rejection letter or anything else to me?

That I am not sure about, but I would venture to guess that it is too soon for any outright rejections to go out. As has been said already, there are many months of interviews still left to go so just have patience. Sorry I cannot give you any more insight than that, just a student 🙂

Just got an interview invite! YESSS!!

When were u complete?

I'm tryna decide if I want to submit this 2ndary or not. I kno the deadline is Friday, so I'm past late. But I'm IS, and this school is a good fit for me. What do u guys think?

I got an email saying I was complete on 11/16. As long as you're willing to pay the fee, it never hurts to try.

Anybody know if USF sends an email confirming your interview once you set it up? I need proof that I'm missing class because of an interview...guess I could call and request one if they don't.

Hi guys, I have not received any update from usf since my file was complete. Is it good to call or email to ask my status? Any idea is welcome. Thanks.

The email I got from them when my file was complete specifically said not to contact them or send any kind of update info unless specifically requested, so I'm gonna go with no.

Accepted!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just got the call from Dr. Brooks!!!!!!!!!
Hang in there everyone, they are making progress in admissions.

I interviewed 12/1!

I only got the invite email, no confirmation email. I would call and request one if you need one for class, I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

What day did you end up getting? I'm interviewing Feb 2nd...does anyone know how many other applicants interview with you?

They told me the earliest they had was Feb 9...but then again, no one ever called me back until Tues. Good luck on your interview! Let me know how it goes! Are you going to the dinner with the med students the night before?

My day there was supposed to be 14, but there ended up only being twelve of us. For the tour of campus and the tour of the simulation center we were split into two smaller groups though.

There are usually 16 per interview day.

The person who coordinates the interviews has been pretty sick lately, so please be patient with her 🙂

I would highly suggest going - it's going to be your main opportunity to interact with students, as very few students are on campus Tuesday morning and generally have class and labs in the afternoon.

I can't remember from my interview, but does any current medical student (or someone who interviewed) remember:
1) What the school's grading system is
2) What the daily schedule of 1st year/ 2nd years is like
3) When exams are (block or once a week)

Just trying to sort out the details in my head. I love the school, it is my favorite of the schools I have been accepted to! 🙂

Did he say what was going on with admissions? Like can I assume if someone who interviewed after me got accepted, does that mean I am waitlisted or rejected?

Or do they keep reviewing apps??

He didn't say specifically, but I do remember Dr. Perez mentioning in the interview that the committee doesn't meet all together, but rather whenever it fits specific people's schedule. So they might meet on one person's file, but not another. Hope this helps?

1. Pass, Pass with Commendation, Honors
2. Depends on the day. You can see the full schedule for both years here (but please don't be overwhelmed): http://health.usf.edu/medicine/educationalaffairs/educational_program_calendar.htm
3. Every 3-4 weeks, at the completion of each block

You aren't waitlisted or rejected until they specifically tell you. Just assume you are in a post-interview hold.

I interviewed on Dec. 8th and I found out yesterday that I got in to USF. Got a call from Dr. Brooks at around 3:50pm. Good luck to you!

Congrats! Are you interested in USF? Maybe we'll be classmates next year!

Also, to anyone accepted, does anyone know if there is a fb group? I tried looking, but I didn't see one specifically?

I'm a little confused. This seems to be the DPT schedule (or is it both combined). I amtrying to figure out how much study time I would have in the daytime hours (like before six).

🙂
accepted via fiu/usf 7 year program***

i am most certain that i am attending usf in the fall...its a great medical school i have been there about four times in the past three years and i love everything about it....

the process for the 7 year program is very different than normal acceptance...but we still had the mcat.....however im just posting here because they were a month or so behind with our acceptance letters and the few of us who are accepted just got them last week...so just be patient

im just afraid im going to fail this entire semester with c's and b's and get kicked out but thats always my fear for every semester...just need to relax lol

someone make a facebook group
& has anyone looked into off campus housing? i guess ill just sign with one of those 3rd party dorms....

congrats to everyone who has been accepted
josh

The lectures are all recorded and downloadable, so you don't have to go to class. The MS1s and DPT students have the same basic science classes, so you can ignore any class that says DPT. Realistically, you aren't going to be able to get all your studying done during the day.

Your acceptance process is completely separate from what everyone else here has been going through. (This is for everyone else that has been interviewing - USF has agreements with FIU, UCF, and their own undergrad campus for 7 year programs, so there are a certain number of spots that are held for students in those programs each year)

You won't get your acceptance rescinded by getting B's and C's in your last semester. I know from personal experience.

Wait on housing. You DO NOT want to live with undergrads. The school will send out information in May/June. Everyone lives in apartments or houses.

i know the process is different...i stated that....i just was saying they were behind with getting stuff out for us so it might be the same with you guys...thats all

thanks for the housing info. i wont do anything till then.

Well, jus got my secondary submitted about 20 mins ago! Lets just pray this makes me stand out! lol

Side note: for those who dont c my earlier post, I waited so late bcuz of financial issues, not bcuz I dont love the school, bcuz I really do!!!

did everything have to be submitted by 5 today? or is it 'til the end of the night? I submitted everything but that residency form...which I'm still waiting on from my parents. What do you all think? The website just says on or before Jan 15....

I believe it was by 5. But maybe u can call on Monday to find out.

damn...it'd be nice to go to school 20 mins from home haha

I'm thinking as long as its in today, it will probably be okay. The website doesn't specify 5 pm or anything, and since it can be submitted electronically, I don't think it matters...

Well, I knew that I would be in work all week during the day so I called again Monday morning and spoke with Adrienne. Thats too bad that would have been cool to meet you 😀

I'm definitely planning on going to the dinner, but not sure about the student host thing. If not, I'll get a hotel close by.

Good luck on your interview, I'll try and post post-interview to chat about my day.

thanks lady doc. funny thing. i just checked the site...it just says the application closed. whew. i wonder if turning it in really makes a difference at this point. has anyone ever in the history of med school apps ever got in being the last person to sbmit a secondary? i feel like the school would prob just throw it out...eek.

For those of you that have recently been granted an interview, when were you complete at USF? I am a USF grad, in-state, and was complete in September. I got OOS interview and cannot believe that I haven't heard from USF yet.

I was also complete in September and have not heard anything.
I am afraid I am done for here.

I'll see you there!

Nice, looking forward to meeting you 😀

I was complete 11/23, I'm in state but I graduated from FAU. I hope you'll hear form them soon! :xf:

I just got an e-mail about second look. I am excited!!!! I love USF

Not so sure about the studying part you mentioned. I don't attend class anymore and just watch online later at 2x speed (today was class from 8-noon). I'll probably watch the lectures this afternoon and take off the rest of the day.

I don't know why some of my classmates study every day all the time. There are quite a few of us that just wait til the week before the exam to kick it into gear. This time, I'll probably start tomorrow and take Sunday off for the NFL games (exam 1 week from Sunday).

As far as the grading system mentioned earlier, yes, it's Pass (70-79), Pass with Commendation (80-89), and Honors (90-100).

It should be noted that is what it shows on your transcript with the Registrar. You will receive a percentage for each course per exam (i.e. our exam on Tuesday was for anatomy, neuroscience, physical diagnosis, and behavioral medicine so we received a grade for each). Your class rank will be sorted based on the percentages with a weight given by the number of course lecture hours (so more lecture hours in one course will hold more weight).

One of my classmates said that starting next year, they are changing it (I'm not 100% sure, ask the office) so you have to pass each block of exams or you re-mediate immediately. Right now if you fail an exam, you keep going along normally and try to bring it up with later exams.

Also, you will get some info on computer requirements, etc. You don't have to buy a new computer. In fact, you can get by with a desktop at home, but laptops are just more convenient. I would not suggest buying the laptop they sell through the school ($1,300). You can get a much cheaper laptop with better stuff for half the cost. One of my classmates had a 7 year old Dell laptop that worked fine til some component went wrong and he bought a new laptop a few months ago.

They also say you need a printer, but you don't. You can buy paper and print stuff for free using the printer and computer on campus.

P.S. As far as patient contact, we started that in late November with LCE (shadowing a doc you're assigned). Once a week for four hours. A PGY4 resident last week asked if I was a fourth year med student and was surprised I was just a first year. I guess he didn't get contact that early.

One more thing...as far as CACL (simulated patient experience), we've had four so far. Two during orientation where we went in as groups. Then the following month individually and just last week as groups again. I think next week we go in as a group and the following week will be individual. I think we do CACL 8 times in first year. Rest of the physical diagnosis takes place in Med 1 labs or School of Physical Therapy (like we did yesterday and today).
