As far as I understand, the hold list becomes (is added to) the alternate list after it's ranked. Before then, I think the alternate list is just something to the effect of "high hold" (the first 10 or so people on the hold list)

Again, I'm going to try to get a hold of Dana tomorrow to clarify. But if anyone else has heard something similar to what I have, that would be awesome to know...

And I DEFINITELY hear you on the MCAT--I'll have to retake it too if I don't get in 🙁

Yeah if I don't get an email of my status by noon tomorrow I'm gonna email her and find out what's the deal.

And yeah, the worst thing is I have my MCAT schedule for May 26. So it's a possibility I could take it and JUST AFTER, get an acceptance, lol.
 
Haha welllllllllll may 26 is the day after my 21st birthday...

So if we both get in we're going to the bar instead of you taking the MCAT 😀

I guess my plan is to wait until noon tomorrow to get the status email. If i don't get it i'll email dana and ask her what the deal is with the waitlist group and whatnot.

GujuDoc I agree. That's why I am planning to accept at another med school so I can go ahead and get started although I really loved FSU and it was my top choice. I am waiting on an award letter from the NAVY to make sure I am a recipient of the HPSP but if I was not to get the scholarship I would probably do the Bridge program because I would end up with a little less debt.
 
I find it really weird that my status changed around 3:30-4 PM yesterday to HOLD and I have yet to get an email regarding my status.

It's annoying because I don't have ANY info other than that one line on my status... oh well..

Also, SisterDisco08, I was thinking about it and I think my chances of getting in off the waitlist aren't very good. I'm betting I'm not too high on the waitlist and the reason is because I was one of the last people to interview. You'd figure if they were high on me they would've just accepted me and called it a day. But since they put me on Hold then something must be keeping them from doing it and there must be a lot of better people higher than me on the hold list. -_-

Either way I'll email Dana later to see if I can get an idea of where I am on the list.

:/ IDK, I thought that you'd have a better chance at an outright acceptance because they would have a better idea of how many spots are opening up...

Yeah I thought that might've been the case as well, but there were 8 people interviewing that day so maybe a couple of them got accepted.

Either way I just wish they'd send me an email already and give me more info.

I did recall from last years thread though that Dana wouldn't release where you generally were on the waitlist over the phone, and would only do it in an email.. kinda weird but I'm gonna send her an email around 11:30 I think, just asking what's going on. Let me know if you find anything out today! Thanks =D

This seemed to be the week a lot of people went on vacation or are prepping for the graduation. The school feels really empty now compared to usual, granted we are missing 120ish people doing their SCP, but overall it seems like a lot of office doors are closed.

The people here are probably REALLY busy.

Psssssh practicality; my theory is more entertaining!
 
I guess my issue is that they haven't sent us last interviewers an email regarding our status yet...

I just talked to someone who interviewed friday (turns out they had 16 people between friday and monday) and they have the same Hold issue without an email... it's just not very fair to us... lol

oh well
 
Finally got the email about a half hour ago.

It was just an attached letter saying I was "placed on hold" and that they'd be reviewing applicants. Other than that it pretty much said nothing. I think I'll email a little later asking about the whole "where am I in the hold list" and "what are my chances" etc.

oh wellllllll did anyone find any other info out about the waitlist?
 
Can any current students/future students that know briefly describe what kind of clothing a student needs. For example, are there requirements to dress business casual everyday to class or do we just need that periodically. I feel that I need a huge change in my wardrobe this month as I don't have much of that type of clothing.

Just so you know, pbmed, the Navy will only pay for 4 years, so if you want to do bridge at FSUCOM, you'll have to pay for your bridge year out of pocket and defer the beginning of your Navy scholarship by one year. That's if they let you do it at all. Generally speaking, they're only willing to pay for traditional, straight-up, four-year MD/DO degrees (they won't allow any MD/MPH, MD/MBA, etc.).

Good luck with that. Let me know if they tell you anything. I called earlier today and asked the same thing. They said they STILL couldn't tell me anything. They're playing their cards really close to their chest this year, because they told a lot of waitlist people last year that they were likely to get in (this was the "High Hold" list that you've all heard about) and in the end, not all of those people got in, which is pretty f***ed up. So I think they're just letting us wait, rather than risking giving us false hope, which you have to respect I guess.

We can wear whatever we want to class. You'll need a repertoire of business casual, for guest lecturers, standardized patients, and preceptorship. A good 3-4 outfits should get you through the year. Maybe get a couple more at the end of first year for summer clinical practicum.

Yes, updates are fine!

Should people on the Hold list not expect to hear anything until after May 15?
Most movement will happen after May 15th as that is the multiple acceptance deadline for most medical schools in the country.

This next question is a little complicated, so I will try my best to be clear: I was told some information about the Hold list and I would like to make sure that I am not misunderstanding what I was told. I was told that prior to the Hold list being ranked, there were two lists--an Alternate list (a small, priority group of students the Admissions Committee definitely wanted to admit if there was room--something to the effect of a "high hold" group) of about ~10 people, and a larger, unranked Hold list (a general waitlist-type group). Then after the interviews were finished for this cycle, the Hold list would be ranked, and combined with the Alternate list (the Hold list would then make up spots ~11+ on the Alternate list), and then as spots open, people from this list will be filled in, in their order on this list. Am I correct in my understanding of the Hold process, as detailed above?
The list is eventually rank ordered as much as possible…I say this because the list is always subject to change based on updates, mission fit, and other criteria we continue to take into account until the class is full.

Thanks for getting the first solid, quantifiable response that any of us has gotten thus far. That's about as many as I estimated they'd be accepting off the waitlist. If only we knew how many of us were on the waitlist, we could run some numbers.

And I'm not surprised that she didn't really answer your last question. It goes along with my theory that they're hedging their bets and trying to avoid promising any particular people an acceptance before they can actually grant it. Annoying, yes, but hey, some of us (namely, me) have been on the waitlist a LONGGG time, so waiting a couple more weeks ain't no thang 😛

Wow disco, mad props for finding out that info!!!

I'm gonna send her an email sometime tonight and try and find out how many people are on the waitlist this year.

I also have already heard of one person dropping their spot for FAU so that's one open spot hahaha

I really hope we're (me, you, mskar) in that top 20-30 >_< hoping anyone else decides to give up on FSU and not submit updates and stuff. I know I'm going to!!

As I guy, I suggest buying business casual clothing for different occasions (CSSC, guess lectures, special events and SCP (where we go to work)). we (c/o 2014) will be selling the very COOL FSUCOM shirt, in different colors and designs!!
So buy them and they arent that expensive 😀

I wonder if she left out telling you your whereabouts on the waitlist on purpose.. or whether they just have not idea yet cause the waitlist isn't ranked supposedly...

I'm guessing it's because it's not ranked yet

You should ask her what day specifically she anticipates the ranking to be finished, and if we will allowed to ask where we are

I second that! most importantly just curious as to when they are actually going to rank the waitlist... I thought it was happening early this week!

1) Generally speaking, how does the Hold list work?
2) Last year there was a high hold vs regular hold list, is this the way it will work this year?
3) Has the waitlist been ranked yet? If not, is there a specific day in the next week it will definitely be ranked by?

Hey guys, so I sent out the email and here are the questions I asked. as soon as I hear back from Dana I'll post the answers i get..

If you have the time, I have a couple questions concerning the Hold status I was put under:

1) Generally speaking, could you please describe how the Hold list works? I understand last year there was a sort of high hold list versus a regular hold list. Is this the same for this year or will things be done a little differently?

2) Would it be possible to know how many candidates are on the Hold list? How many applicants interviewed this year and how many were accepted?

3) Has the Hold list been ranked? If not, will there be a specific day in the next week it will be ranked by?

4) Once the Hold list is ranked, would it be possible to find out where we are on the list? I would greatly appreciate it if I was informed that I was far further down the list than the number expected to be accepted.

So i just got an answer regarding the questions I asked so here they are:

1, 3 and 4) Our hold list is eventually rank ordered as much as possible…I say this because the list is always subject to change based on updates, mission fit, and other criteria we continue to take into account until the class is full. Most movement will happen after May 15th as that is the multiple acceptance deadline for most medical schools in the country.

2) Approximately 60 applicants are on the Hold list. 339 applicants were interviewed this year, and so far we have offered acceptances to 176 applicants. We anticipate offering 20-30 more acceptances.

As a general rule of thumb…you really can’t believe everything you read on those med applicant forums J

That last line kind of scared me. It made me wonder if they look at SDN and look down upon those of us posting on here. But then again I'm just trying to find out more information and clarify it to the rest of you guys and if anything I'm saving them from answering SEVERAL emails. And maybe they'll see in here that I REALLY REALLY want to be at FSU next year. oh well

and sorry she didn't answer if they would be ranking on a specific day.

Also I found out someone that interviewed from my group got an outright acceptance. I guess he's the one this year to be the "I got in off the last group of interviews" lol

Chang, you da man! Thanks for the update! This is very encouraging, because I had no idea there were so few people on Hold. 20-30 acceptances out of 60 hold applicants gives us pretty good odds!

As for her last line, I wouldn't be too worried about it. They know that we're all nervous and our posting on here will only show that we really want to go to FSU and our nervousness will come across as excitement. The only people who have to worry are the people who post nasty things about one school vs. another, DO bashers, etc. And they don't deserve it anyway.

Hang in there, guys! May 16th is right around the corner! 😀

I think this just shows how good a fit we are for FSU =P we're already working together and cooperating in a team setting and not trying to compete for spots haha put us all in an LC please! lolol

Maybe more than they expect will end up elsewhere and they'll accept like all 60 people off the waitlist! hahaha

Just to let you guys know, I followed up with a couple more questions just to pretty much get a yes or no answer:

1) So there is no set date by which the rank ordering of the Hold list will be done by? I understand it seems it won't be completely ranked exactly from 1 to 60 but rather be a flowing list with movement throughout the month.

2) Also, I am guessing it will not be possible to release generally where we are on the list then?

I'll let you guys know what I find out.

I got a response from Ms. Urrutia just now for my other questions:

We are hoping the hold list will be ranked in some way by next week. But again…we don’t give out exact placement as it is subject to change. On that list of 60 applicants, all are applicants whom we would be happy to have in the class. We are also in the process of sending notifications to applicants whom we know we will not be offering acceptances to this year. All of those however have not been sent. You are not however, one of those J

COMPLETELY agree. Ha, I'd say we are definitely embodying the spirit of the school in working together. This is why one day we're all going to be phenomenal physicians
