Can anyone else confirm the existence of an "alternate" list that takes priority over the "waitlist". It's just that I've never heard anything like this concerning FSU from anyone else.

I guess I'll hold off on the letters until after I get the Hold email (im assuming tomorrow) and find out more info. This sucks, especially cause I have to go back to studying the MCAT again lol

As far as I understand, the hold list becomes (is added to) the alternate list after it's ranked. Before then, I think the alternate list is just something to the effect of "high hold" (the first 10 or so people on the hold list)

Again, I'm going to try to get a hold of Dana tomorrow to clarify. But if anyone else has heard something similar to what I have, that would be awesome to know...

But in the pbmed's case don't you think it is worth taking another acceptance at another med school vs. waiting another year for what is not an absolute guarantee??

I'd rather go elsewhere then waste another year just for the chance to go to FSU.

GujuDoc I agree. That's why I am planning to accept at another med school so I can go ahead and get started although I really loved FSU and it was my top choice. I am waiting on an award letter from the NAVY to make sure I am a recipient of the HPSP but if I was not to get the scholarship I would probably do the Bridge program because I would end up with a little less debt.

Yeah I thought that might've been the case as well, but there were 8 people interviewing that day so maybe a couple of them got accepted.

Either way I just wish they'd send me an email already and give me more info.

I did recall from last years thread though that Dana wouldn't release where you generally were on the waitlist over the phone, and would only do it in an email.. kinda weird but I'm gonna send her an email around 11:30 I think, just asking what's going on. This seemed to be the week a lot of people went on vacation or are prepping for the graduation. The school feels really empty now compared to usual, granted we are missing 120ish people doing their SCP, but overall it seems like a lot of office doors are closed.

I guess my issue is that they haven't sent us last interviewers an email regarding our status yet...

I just talked to someone who interviewed friday (turns out they had 16 people between friday and monday) and they have the same Hold issue without an email... it's just not very fair to us... lol

Can any current students/future students that know briefly describe what kind of clothing a student needs. For example, are there requirements to dress business casual everyday to class or do we just need that periodically. I feel that I need a huge change in my wardrobe this month as I don't have much of that type of clothing.

I received an email today that I was accepted to the Bridge program. But I have gotten an acceptance to another medical school so I will most likely be attending another school. Waiting on the final word from the NAVY with my scholarship. Good luck to all!!!

Just so you know, pbmed, the Navy will only pay for 4 years, so if you want to do bridge at FSUCOM, you'll have to pay for your bridge year out of pocket and defer the beginning of your Navy scholarship by one year. That's if they let you do it at all. Generally speaking, they're only willing to pay for traditional, straight-up, four-year MD/DO degrees (they won't allow any MD/MPH, MD/MBA, etc.).

Good luck with that. Let me know if they tell you anything. I called earlier today and asked the same thing. They said they STILL couldn't tell me anything. They're playing their cards really close to their chest this year, because they told a lot of waitlist people last year that they were likely to get in (this was the "High Hold" list that you've all heard about) and in the end, not all of those people got in, which is pretty f***ed up. So I think they're just letting us wait, rather than risking giving us false hope, which you have to respect I guess.

We can wear whatever we want to class. You'll need a repertoire of business casual, for guest lecturers, standardized patients, and preceptorship. A good 3-4 outfits should get you through the year. Maybe get a couple more at the end of first year for summer clinical practicum.

Most movement will happen after May 15th as that is the multiple acceptance deadline for most medical schools in the country.

This next question is a little complicated, so I will try my best to be clear: I was told some information about the Hold list and I would like to make sure that I am not misunderstanding what I was told. I was told that prior to the Hold list being ranked, there were two lists--an Alternate list (a small, priority group of students the Admissions Committee definitely wanted to admit if there was room--something to the effect of a "high hold" group) of about ~10 people, and a larger, unranked Hold list (a general waitlist-type group). Then after the interviews were finished for this cycle, the Hold list would be ranked, and combined with the Alternate list (the Hold list would then make up spots ~11+ on the Alternate list), and then as spots open, people from this list will be filled in, in their order on this list. I'm gonna send her an email sometime tonight and try and find out how many people are on the waitlist this year.

I also have already heard of one person dropping their spot for FAU so that's one open spot hahaha

As I guy, I suggest buying business casual clothing for different occasions (CSSC, guess lectures, special events and SCP (where we go to work)). we (c/o 2014) will be selling the very COOL FSUCOM shirt, in different colors and designs!!
So buy them and they arent that expensive 😀

So i just got an answer regarding the questions I asked so here they are:

1, 3 and 4) Our hold list is eventually rank ordered as much as possible…I say this because the list is always subject to change based on updates, mission fit, and other criteria we continue to take into account until the class is full. Most movement will happen after May 15th as that is the multiple acceptance deadline for most medical schools in the country.

2) Approximately 60 applicants are on the Hold list. 339 applicants were interviewed this year, and so far we have offered acceptances to 176 applicants. We anticipate offering 20-30 more acceptances.

As a general rule of thumb…you really can’t believe everything you read on those med applicant forums J

But then again I'm just trying to find out more information and clarify it to the rest of you guys and if anything I'm saving them from answering SEVERAL emails. And maybe they'll see in here that I REALLY REALLY want to be at FSU next year. oh well

and sorry she didn't answer if they would be ranking on a specific day.

They know that we're all nervous and our posting on here will only show that we really want to go to FSU and our nervousness will come across as excitement. The only people who have to worry are the people who post nasty things about one school vs. another, DO bashers, etc. And they don't deserve it anyway.

Just to let you guys know, I followed up with a couple more questions just to pretty much get a yes or no answer:

1) So there is no set date by which the rank ordering of the Hold list will be done by? I understand it seems it won't be completely ranked exactly from 1 to 60 but rather be a flowing list with movement throughout the month.

2) Also, I am guessing it will not be possible to release generally where we are on the list then?

I'll let you guys know what I find out.

We are hoping the hold list will be ranked in some way by next week. But again…we don’t give out exact placement as it is subject to change. On that list of 60 applicants, all are applicants whom we would be happy to have in the class. We are also in the process of sending notifications to applicants whom we know we will not be offering acceptances to this year. All of those however have not been sent. You are not however, one of those J

Now I'm really hoping 60 people drop so we all get in =P it'd be pretty amazing if I could see mskar, london and sisterdisco all at FSU next year
